Wow, this is a great idea!! I have a ton of cheap, crummy graphite pencils that I don't even want to write with. I'm so glad you shared this tip! Fantastic! I would never have thought of doing that. I'm really glad you showed the picture at the end of the white pencil where you have sharpened past the glue mark. You get to use every bit of the lead this way! Thanks!
Glad you liked it. Colored pencils can be expensive, and throwing away even the last inch of it is such a waste. I love being able to use them to the end. You can also glue your stump to another colored pencil of the same color.
Time saver - use 1 to 2 inch aluminum, rubber, plastic pipe or tubes to connect pencil stubs to another pencil. I've used sections of plastic pen barrels, water filter hose (hardware store) or thin-walled vacuum hose, etc.
Will this work for construction layout guys? We mark columns, walls, curbs on concrete using pencil(white is easy to see on fresh concrete, esp. when it's still dark) and then snap a chalkline. I put my pencil on a pencil holder on my hard hat for quick grab. I hate throwing away 2-inch pencils.
@@Sandrinesgallery I have an idea. I'll remove the eraser and the ferrule and trim till it has the same diameter as the inside diameter of a ball pen cylinder:)
Actually, I'm going to make a new video for an easy alternative (even though as far as I know, to use 100% of your pencil, the glue is the best): use a straw! I'm going to look for a brand that works better with fatter pencils. Right now I'm using McDonald straws with the Prismacolors and Caran d'Ache Pablos.
Can't wait to see it! I normally replace my pencils at around the 10cm mark, so even if i trim 2 to make the ends flat, its still better than buying new i spose!!
So I know it took me a lot of time to finally make it, sorry about that. Here's the video about a quick way to make a pencil extender: ua-cam.com/video/eP4CAqlLmGk/v-deo.html
If this works (for me), this is so cool - I love that you can sharpen right through to the next pencil. I am only using graphite pencils, but I still hate to throw the stubbs away. I am ordering the gorilla glue clear that @shawnx24 mentioned. But I could not see what that crazy glue is that you are using in your video. Can you put a link to it? - thanks : )
I used this one: amzn.to/33QCk79. But I'm sure you can use your favorite super glue. Sometimes if you get too rough when sharpening, they might come apart, but you can glue them together again and keep using them. I love this technique and I'm so happy I don't have to throw away my stubs.
@@Sandrinesgallery thanks very much : ) ... I think this is the USA version only, so that is probably why I could not find it (in the UK) :o, I will try the gorilla one ... it should arrive tomorrow, I have so many stubbs to glue up - very exiting!
That works too, but the problem is that you won't be able to sharpen your pencils through the tape. It might actually damage your sharpener. With glue, it's usually a pretty smooth transition.
When I made this video, I had so many stubs that I couldn't glue them all on other colored pencils. So that was a good alternative. But these days, whenever I can, I use the same color pencil to glue it on.
I don't think there is a perfect way, unfortunately. I do not like pencil extenders, they do not allow me to sharpen my pencils once they are very small. I get a better result sticking my pencil in a straw. And when it's too small for that, using strong glue and sticking it to the end of another pencil works great for me as it allows me to use it right through. I could also use a colored pencil of the same color as my stub's. It saves me quite a bit of money in the long run since I get to use all my pencils stubs till the very last bit.
these methods are absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! i’m about 8 years late, but thank you so so much for sharing these tips!!!! :D ♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎

That is genius. I was about to drop 15 bucks times at least five to get every last bit out of my pencils with those Staedtler extenders from Japan.
I never use them anymore. I just like to glue my pencils, or if I'm in a hurry, this works well too: ua-cam.com/video/eP4CAqlLmGk/v-deo.html

I'll have to try this with not only my colored pencils but with my graphite ones. I hate wasting a still useful pencil. 🙂
I just love pencils.
Awesome thank you so much !

I don't see why not. You can also just stick your little pencil stub in a straw to extend it a bit.

That is fabulous. Which crazy glue is it? Thank you!
It's been a while, but I'm sure any good glue will work.
What do you recommend for pencils with a rounded end, like polychromos and the newer derwent artists?

True, but it's a lot of work unless you have a super knife.

Alastair
Its chemical name is cyanoacrylate adhesive. Maybe that will help you find it.
Great idea!
Thank you very much.
Nice! I can scratch my back too!!
LOL!!!
Lol what i just did is that i took one short pencil and a long one then i stick them together with tape

Why not glue the stubs on the other end of a color pencil? Then,, you have a built-in tinting/reflective tool with quick access.

woow! thanks!
Glad I could help!
Use the 10 second clear gorilla glue, that wont bubble up.
Thanks for the tip.
This is not a good solution
It works great for me.
I am sorry if you hurt
I did not get any perfect solution to make pencil extender, on UA-cam. Although, your method is good 👍

It would be good if you could explain why you don't like this solution?
