ASTOR PIAZZOLLA: VERANO PORTENO (guitar and synthesizers and tape recorders)

On 4 May 2024 at the Music Museum of Brescia Paolo Cattaneo and Antonio D'Alessandro played together, proposing an unusual duo, that of classical guitar and electronic music, an unprecedented combination given the instrumentation proposed: a section of magnetic tape is cut and spliced ​​end to end, creating a loop that can be played continuously, on a tape recorder, such that the sound is repeated endlessly. Cattaneo live proposes this technique to create repetitive and rhythmic musical patterns that generate imaginative and evocative journeys, outside of time and space.
The result is a fascinating dialogue between analog synths, audio cassettes and continuously playing loops. The manipulation of magnetic tapes generates a layered sound magma that merges with fluctuating and melancholy atmospheres.
