Double Fire Ant Mound Aluminum Casting

  • One more time! Were headed back out to the City of New Brockton to cast fire ant hills from the front yard of the city armory. With permission from Mayor Kathy Holley, we arrived in the field pleasantly surprised by eight new fire ant mounds.Due to a lack of aluminum, as well as a lack of daylight, we were only able to cast two of the fire ant hills. Never fear!! After presenting Mayor Holley with the casting, we solidified the use of land whenever my aluminum supply is replenished. Enjoy this double casting and stay tuned for more.

That would be so cool of you did a dual casting and got two ant colonies connected by a tunnel. I'm sure that would be quite difficult as you would require two foundries and a lot of aluminum, probably around 20-30 pounds of aluminum for something like that?
Either way I find this endlessly fascinating, it's so simple and yet it's so complex. Keep it up guys!

If they ever make a noir movie about a retired Italian mobster-turned-old, tired, bitter Federal agent hunting for a kidnapped 12 year old daughter of a politician and the the whole thing is narrated by the main character, the narrator from this video deserves the part.

I can totally hear thus guy saying "I can't do this anymore Jim. Tracking down kidnappers is a young man's game. But dammit this is my old crew responsible and they need to be brought to justice. I'm on the job but one way or another we both know this is my last job [ominous foreshadowing of the detective's heroic death at the end of the movie]"

Casting looks awesome. There is an aluminum cleaner (liquid) called Aluma-brite. It is an acid base that is diluted by water and cleaned simply by running water over the aluminum. This produce truly brightens the aluminum up with out harsh abrashine. I cost about $20 comes in gallon concentrate.

Greetings from Ontario, Canada. I must tell you, I really enjoy your videos! Your soft rich voice narrating the action and the great music accompanying the video is so nice and relaxing. It's a fantastic change from the screaming or loud voices, foul language (nothing against swearing, I do my share when necessary) and general chaos of many of the other UA-cam submissions. I love the final results - a thing of beauty from an insect that is killing off the native species. Keep up the great work; I look forward to more productions.

Hey there, I love the shape you get out of an anthill, so I´m always impressed by each vid I see from you. But if you have this many anthills in one place and each close to another maybe you cold try running 2 foundries simultaneously to get enough metal to pour it in right after each other...
Also if you know you need lots of aluminium, why not check your local recycling centre beforehand to get enough metal? Sure you´d have tp pay some $ but you still get profit from selling those sculptures...

The best stuff to use is old grills , lawnmowers ,pots & pans .These have been cast once before and there will be much less dross resulting in more usable melts from less fule . ( Myfordboy home foundry ) shows the best kind to melt an tells why.
