Aluminum Fire Ant Colony Casting

  • Finally found another fire ant colony that needed a history lesson about Pompeii. Got permission from the neighboring city mayor to attempt casting anthills on government land. Loaded up in the truck and gave it a shot. The homemade foundry and molten soda cans proved to create a beautiful fire ant colony aluminum casting. The addition of the Phantom 3 Advanced aerial photography is a nice touch.

      What?
What? You're making no sense while you also make so many grammatical mistakes that it's just garble that you're putting out.!!
Your ? Has nothing to do with anthills being filled up with aluminium to make beautiful sculptures from nature while killing off little biting beasts that have no real purpose in life.
If you have ever been bitten by any of these little basturds you would be applauding these artists for a job well done.!!

Good. Unfortunately we could melt every ounce of aluminum in the United States and never get close to killing all fire ant colonies that are taking over the deep south (unfortunately they are moving further north each and every year) the fire ant scourge is one of the worst invasive species currently infiltrating our country’s diverse and fertile landscape.

Moving away from popping cans would give you more time to enjoy forging cool stuff. I found a couple car dealers that throw me broken and dented aluminum rims when they have them. I chop them up in minutes using an old circular saw with the blade on backwards. Less time, less dross. Timing covers, heads, etc. all work well. The drone gives the hobby a fresh and pleasant view and I giving it 2 thumbs up !!!

Love your videos. From your tone when speaking about adding cans, I can guess that melting them gets a bit monotonous. I was thinking about it and wondering if you could just rig a system to feed the cans into the top of your foundry. A simple way might be a few steel rods sticking up off the foundry, set just enough apart so you can stack a bunch of cans on top of themselves, feeding the mouth of the foundry. Then you could add by tens instead of single cans. Thank you for your well edited videos...

Took photos to identify (big headed fire ants) and had to notify EPA before treating. Spent a couple thousand dollars, watched them treat, even used a little extra. THEY'RE STILL THERE. Can't imagine how much casting medium it would take or how tall the castings would be. There's about 75 holes/hills all grouped together. 😖

Two things you need to make this safer/easier :
    i) A can with a cut-out bottom creates a better base, and a good funnel to ensure Aluminium doesn't splash outside of the aperture. A stainless steel industrial funnel would also be good.
ii) A crucible with a beak or a spout, for easy pouring.

If this were Skyrim, you would have been Alteration 100, Destruction 100 and Conjuration 100!

Ok he’s kinda funny. Like in the beginning when he says very carefull process to unloading the truck then he throws the bags all over the place. That’s hilarious he’s like a modern day Doc Brown

Any reason to not apply water before removing the cast from the ground? Seems like it would make removal easier (but probably a lot messier).

    A few questions:
1.) Why is the channelname 556 Raven?
    2.)Is she your partner?
3.)From where do you get these dozens of cans?
    4.) Where is this filmed?
5.) Do you need something like a license to cast ant colonies?
Also I really love your videos, especially the casting ones.
Keep up the great work :)

556 is my favorite caliber bullet and the first company I deployed to Iraq with were the Ravens
Yes she is my better half
I'm in a combat veteran motorcycle club and we produce lots of cans 😜
      South eastern Alabama
No license required. Just permission from the land owner to dig up the casting.
Thank you! I'm always happy to have a fan.
