It's sad many of us have to go through this. People give up so easily. The fact that you're forced to hide your feelings and pretend you're fine either way sucks. Both sides need to learn to not waste people's time right from the start. Of course dont be too clingy from the start but make sure you both really want each other and have no plans at all on being with someone else.

Did this the other day. Had been getting needy and so saw the breakup coming - so when it happened I just calmly agreed with her and walked away like I didn't care. Expressed no emotion, didn't give her any closure, and basically just said "well, it's been fun, but if you're not happy, that's cool - take care of yourself" and left. She was utterly speechless. One week later she starts stalking me, so it's only a matter of time before she reaches out, once she is able to swallow her pride. Coming up on 14 days no contact now, so I'm guessing it's gonna be in the next couple of days.
