    I have always used a plastic lid from one of my mixing bowls to cut the round corners for my baby blankets. Great video thanks.

    What are the recommended settings on a serger for double gauze?

    I love this fabric! I have already made a blanket, bib and burp cloth for my new, soon to be here, granddaughter. I have more fabric that I am going to use to make this blanket you have shown. Awesome, thanks.

      +Kathleen Gardiner isn't the Double Gauze fantastic? Do you pre-wash before you make your items?

    • @kathleengardiner4703
      @kathleengardiner4703 8 років тому +1

      Yes. I thought it would fray a lot. But not very much at all. Trimmed up real nice. Washed on delicate.

    Considering the amount gauze shrinks I would think you would have stated in the video wether or not you pre-shrunk your fabric. You also didn’t state that this fabric crinkles when washed as well which could have an negative effect on the trim.

    Doesn't the gauze shrink? Do you not pre- wash? Very cute

    Thanks for the tutorial. I just tried sewing a blanket with double gauze one side and minky on the other and my seams were wonky and the blanket was a disaster. Had to cut it apart to save the fabric!

    I only recently heard about this fabric and i think this would be great to make a scarf from--and plan on it! Will check for fabrics. The pom poms are adorable and i will have to give that a try-i never thought of that! Was a four thread stitch used on the Babylock or three thread stitching? Thanks.

      +Nancy DeRodeff We did not pre-wash before we made these blankets. it shrinking about 5% and gets softer with every wash. Thanks for asking!

    I'm just investigating double gauze for a dress. I pin EVERYTHING!!!! anyway, I have a Babylock Victory and would like to serge seams. Can you tell me how to set a 5/8" seam width on the serger? It's difficult to find anyone who knows how to do this, and the Babylock Company's advice was very complicated. I don't know how people just serge and cut off without measuring - how would you know whether you're sewing the right width for a seam, or even sewing straight, for a dress? Same for quilting a 1/4". Thanks, Ellen

    • @countrygal3688
      @countrygal3688 4 місяці тому

      I think I would baste the 5/8 seam, try on, the if the fit is right, serge. I would think you need to wash the fabric first before cutting out the pattern, to allow for shrinkage.

    What should you do if you dont have a serger? Also, The Blanket finished has a wrong side and a right side?

    • @RileyBlakeDesigns
      @RileyBlakeDesigns  7 років тому +1

      You can zigzag the edges, turn them under about a 1/4'' and press. Then straight stitch a hem before adding the trim. This blanket is single sided and does have a back and front. Thanks for asking!

    Does ironing out the gauze help with accurate cutting of the edge if your pattern doesn't have something to visually guide you?

    • @RileyBlakeDesigns
      @RileyBlakeDesigns  7 років тому +2

      Ironing with some starch should help with more accurate cutting. Thanks for watching!

    Why not serge the three togetherright side to right side and the pompon trim inbetween,leave 4-6 inches unsewn and turn the 2 layers inside out ,then sew the opening closed with a sewing machine ? It will be a 2 step then,easy.

    I am looking for a video about sewing with gauze fabric. I can see how you are struggling with the fabric on the sewing machine. Rather than skip over this part, tell your viewers about tips to sew with this delicate fabric. I'm thinking the feed dogs would be too harsh on the gauze fabric, and the serger would be the only way for me to complete a blouse.

      Riley Blake Designs Would appreciate someone addressing my concerns with this fabric.

    • @RileyBlakeDesigns
      @RileyBlakeDesigns  7 років тому

      We are happy to address your concerns. We would not recommend using Double Gauze for blouses that are more than a shell that only has shoulder and side seams. The fabric is very loosely woven and should only be used for the simplest garments. It can be prone to snagging as well since it is loosely woven, so your blouse will be delicate to wear.
      Please let us know if there are any other concerns we can address.

    This was not an easy three step blanket since the person sewing the pom pom garland was having a hard time sewing it. It seems more complicated than was advertised.

      Hi Lana,
      Thank you for your feedback. The zipper foot they mentioned is the best method for attaching the pom poms. We appreciate you taking the time to comment.
