My least favourite theories in Dark Souls are those trying to identify the furtive Pygmy. I don’t think fromsoftware ever wanted to draw attention to him, other than the fact they he split the dark soul which gave way to humanity. Hence why they call him furtive. Manus was just a primeval, first gen human who went berserk and birthed the abyss. Velka is the goddess of sin and, because of that, knows what Gwyn did was a sin (the first sin) and that’s why she helps the undead from afar. Trying to identify either of them as the furtive Pygmy takes away from their already cool character lore.
I’d be more inclined to think the furtive pygmy is the one who greets us at the beginning of the Ringed City. Maybe the other pygmy kings are his descendants, and he (as the original) has come to see the folly of trusting Gwyn. Which could also explain the missing throne, as maybe he was cast out once he grew tired of the Ringed City’s indulgences.
Archdragon Peak's architecture is based on Byzantine Architecture. The Byzantine Empire was defeated by the Ottoman Empire, which is now modern day Turkey.

He knew the path would be arduous, but he had no fear. He would devour the gods himself. be very curious if any of this where to be a key part future installments
There is this theory that explain the age of the deep as a flooding of the dark souls world, much like the biblical flooding, the human dregs (that are a physical manifestation of sin) are causing the deep (a body of water that resides at the base of the world) to overflow and will eventually induce a flood for which Aldrich decided to prepare by devouring gods and obtaining their power, protecting himself and his subjects. There may be signs that this is already started to happen at the end of the game, as in the dreg heap are enemies who raise from the ground, covered in barnacles and wielding the most powerful version of the deep soul spell, the great soul dregs.
if patches is a contender for furtive pygmy status, then surely the vendor behind the bars in the first dark souls is as well. "because nobody would expect him, that makes him more likely."
"in the Japanese version, the fortress bears the "センの古城" name, which translates to "Sen's Old Castle", in which, "Sen" is definitely a name." From the soulslore wiki
As someone who knows Japanese the mistranslation of sen’s fortress theory is definitely false. Name pretty much does translate to sen’s fortress. Sen, although meaning 1000, has no counter or any noun attached and it is written using katakana so it doesn’t mean 1000.

Anyone else notice the Guts Theme playing in the background? Though I was imagining it at first, was like: "Man, I need to stop listening to that song all the time. I'm hearing things now."
Manus is literally the father of the abyss, thus meaning he was probably the forth lord to find the darksoul in the fire and create the darksoul and eventually it corrupted him
@@_Dat_Edgy_Boi_that doesn’t inherently mean he’s the furtive Pygmy. He’s Father of the ABYSS, not Father of the Dark Soul. The dark soul was distributed to all of humanity by the furtive Pygmy. Manus was probably just one human in the first few generations of humans who was put in an unfortunate situation (torture) and this caused his dark soul (which is present in all humans) to become the source of the abyss.
I feel like patches would make sense being the furtive pygmy but he nor the ring city hollow drop the dark souls on death. But I thought the dark souls was fragmented into infinite pieces which turned into humanity. So not one single person carries the dark souls but all humanity. It seems to be most heavily suggested that manus was the original furtive pygmy but has become something else entirely when u fight him. I mean its in his name after all.
So Manus's arena next to his grave is the opening cinematic of the furtive pigmy just without the fire and Patches showing everywhere in every possible game (not sekiro) feels like a time/space trvaleller recording stories from all the lands
I don’t know how much I believe the idea of Velka being the Furtive Pygmy, but it would add onto the whole equal-and-opposite/balance thing going on with the original Lords. Nito was a man and possessed the Soul of Death, the Witch of Izalith was a woman with the Soul of Life, Gwyn was a man with the Light Soul, and Velka is a woman with the Dark Soul. Each is perfectly reflected in its opposite. 2 men, 2 women, and even the “good” aspect to “bad” aspect is balanced. In the Gwyn/Velka pair, the traditionally “good” aspect of Light is represented by the man and in the “bad” by the woman, but with Nito/Izalith the “good” (life) is represented by the woman and the “bad” (death) by the man. Balance on all sides.
It’s so upsetting DS3 wasn’t remastered AFTER ps5 was released… I fantasize about a Demon’s Souls quality version of DS3 for current gen 😢 Would have looked mind blowing
Theory: The Untended Graves are in the past. Main reasoning: 'Iudex' is essentially latin for 'judge.' This means the title change between 'Iudex Gundyr' and 'Champion Gundyr' appears to be very literally a job title. My guess is 'Iudex' is 'judging' the player and 'champion' is 'competing' with the player. This, to me, implies the untended graves are in the past, because you're technically facing Gundyr as an 'equal.' In the future, he no longer has an objective, so he instead passes judgement on those appearing 'after' him.
brilliant video as always! I love the different theories about the pygmy, and how after all this time there's still no clear answer. btw, do you think there's any possibility of a Bloodbourne video in the future?
It would be absolutely the greatest thing if Patches, was Lapp, and he was the Pygmy. But he's just a FromSoft "staple". His first appearance is actually Armored Core 4. Still think he's a perfect fit, tho. (Also, nice Berserk music drop at the end.)
i just thought that the perfect fit for the fertive pygmy would be patches since he's in every game, easily forgotten but is there in the very beginning and the very end. Then I read the second comment under this video saying they subscribe to the patches is the pygmy theory. Interesting, I came up with a theory myself but of course it already existed xD
thank you for great content man! you make amazing souls content, not to say your other content is bad just really only seen the souls stuff because its my favorite series rn and my only interest as far as video games go.
What I think about slave knight Gale is that he could be from dark souls 1 and even dark souls 2 I believe that truly that as the curse goes on as we saw with patches one would forget who they once were but clearly they can still remember how to fight and such. I think what may have happened is that Gale was a slave knight in 1 and with the linking of the fire of the first game things went back to normal at least for a bit. I the beings able to return back to lift and he from the ring city no doubt he and the others just stayed there. We don’t know where the Bearer came from all we knew he was looking for a way to end the curse maybe a way to TRULY end it but found the result was the same so again left. This caused him over time to lose more and more of memory forgetting himself, Another idea is that armor he chose to wear when finding it because it suited him he was a slave to the will of the painter after all
Would be a cool idea. I would like a Dark Souls game at the begining of time. Seeing the Gods at their primes and seeing early humans resonating with the abyss and fight with their abyssal weapons and armours would be insane to me. Or getting a look at the world of Dark Souls when it was beautiful is nice aswell.
I didnt think the pilgrims were religious. The church in the souls games is connected to the light not the dark. The pilgrim is very much a dark character. They did not die in the way death ordained so they made the pilgrimage to lothric to find out why they are undead and to end the curse. They were denied access to the afterlife their faith was supposed to afford them. So the go on the pilgrimage to fix that situation
It is customary to leave an offering before departing Anor Londo. In three chests there can be found Ornstein's ring (he left for archdragon peak), Gwynevere's divine blessing (she left for Lothric) and Smough's Hammer. Where Smough went is ultimately unclear, but he doesn't seem to have remained in Anor Londo. He might also have been canonically slain by the Dark Souls 1 protagonist - if you kill Smough first, you don't get Ornstein's ring, which explains why Ornstein's ring is there in Anor Londo instead.
The Sable church and Cathedral of the Deep are not of the same religion. The Abyss and the Deep are not the same thing.

Manus can't be the fertive pygmy as was confirmed by dark souls 3 ringed city dlc. Who it is no longer matters anyways.
Guts' theme is always the cherry on top of souls' videos 😉
So Manus's arena next to his grave is the opening cinematic of the furtive pigmy just without the fire
and Patches showing everywhere in every possible game (not sekiro) feels like a time/space trvaleller recording stories from all the lands
I really appreciatet¿ that Breserk OST! Great videos as always.
What about Mr. John Dark Souls?
rosaria isnt gwynevere, she is only a distant descendant of her and flann
Damn, minister was right, we do need better railways in Archdragon Peak. Can't get anywhere without getting yeeted off by those snake-men.
Slightly off topic, "Secret Betrayal" is the best song from the OST, and most people probably won't hear it.
thanks for putting the tp gerudo theme in this
Your dark souls iceberg was the first video from you i've ever seen so this feels kinda nostalgic
you are spying me!!! last night i watched your dark souls 2 ice berg explanation and yeah, the next day dark souls 3! that's crazy"!
Glad to see you return! By the way the new couch looks great 🕵♂
I don’t know how much I believe the idea of Velka being the Furtive Pygmy, but it would add onto the whole equal-and-opposite/balance thing going on with the original Lords.
Been waiting for this!
From watching lore videos on this trilogy, I have come to my own conclusion: all Gwyn needed to do was GET OUT OF THE KILN!
FINALLY DARK SOULS VIDEO
What an experience it was
It go so deep it end up in Dark Souls 1
Theory: The Untended Graves are in the past. Main reasoning: 'Iudex' is essentially latin for 'judge.' This means the title change between 'Iudex Gundyr' and 'Champion Gundyr' appears to be very literally a job title. My guess is 'Iudex' is 'judging' the player and 'champion' is 'competing' with the player. This, to me, implies the untended graves are in the past, because you're technically facing Gundyr as an 'equal.' In the future, he no longer has an objective, so he instead passes judgement on those appearing 'after' him.
Love the berserk music in the background👌
These theories feel so lazy and uninspired just saying x character is actually x with little to no proof for like two thirds of them at least
25:40 DUDE IS THAT CASTLEVANIA LORDS OF SHADOW MUSIC
Imma need you to explain why you have footage of extinguishing the Fire after killing SoC with the Gargoyle Flaming Spear.
I personally think that Aldritch is a pseudonym of Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin
brilliant video as always! I love the different theories about the pygmy, and how after all this time there's still no clear answer.
btw, do you think there's any possibility of a Bloodbourne video in the future?
Love the theories!
nice video i had alot of fun watching it, keep up the work!
I would like it if the furtive pygmy was never shown to us. Maybe hes so easy to forget that even the developers forgot to put him in the game?
The pygmy is Manus
Patches clearly isn't the pygmy he is just a user of a mech from armored core clearly.
Ahh Dark Souls. Defeat fallen gods and demonically possessed armor sets with the power of dragons but cannot jump.
thank you for great content man! you make amazing souls content, not to say your other content is bad just really only seen the souls stuff because its my favorite series rn and my only interest as far as video games go.
41:56 ah yes the music of pain
Anyone else catch the guts theme
Maybe the furtive pigmy is the friends we made along the way
The real furtive pymgy was the friends we made along the way
I aint never been this early
dude you can´t hit me with guts theme just like that
The DS3 main theme is so good
19:09 mother of WHAT?
Eeek
What I think about slave knight Gale is that he could be from dark souls 1 and even dark souls 2
I believe that truly that as the curse goes on as we saw with patches one would forget who they once were but clearly they can still remember how to fight and such.
This caused him over time to lose more and more of memory forgetting himself,
Another idea is that armor he chose to wear when finding it because it suited him he was a slave to the will of the painter after all
if there is a dark souls 4 i would love for it to be on the age of dark and maybe you become the new original flame and start the loop again
I’d like to see the bloodborne iceberg done
Sen (戦) could also mean war/battle/fight. So a translation could be something like fortress of war, not neccesarilly a name.
Except "sen" is spelt in katakana as "セン" and not in Kanji. So it's more likely a name foreign to Japan than the actual Japanese word for 1000.
