THE TIME HAS COME! This definitely has to be the most complex trailer I've ever worked on but I hope everyone enjoys it! :) For those interested, here's the backstory I came up with when concepting the storyboard for this video: The Red faction is struggling to hold the line after a new alliance between the Blue and Green factions. They are in retreat and 2 task forces have been given the job of defending a strategic station in orbit around Pertam and an industrial facility on the surface. Both are important for the supply line and the war effort. The Blues have prepared and sent their newest fleet of modernized motherships to take over the orbital station. Meanwhile, the Greens with their advanced ground vehicles, stage a full frontal assault on the industrial facility. Losing control of these assets would be a devastating blow for the Reds. Unfortunately for them, both of these facilities have seen better days and the Red engineers must race to upgrade the defenses before the enemy arrives... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Amazing. The homage to the older trailers, the way some of the effects are so good they look almost edited in (that first large railgun shot - it's like watching the old sounds overhaul trailer all over again), the logistics making sense in the trailer and game, the effort put into these builds... it's all so good. You guys really have made something special here. I love that you've also made it so while we do have smaller turrets we can slap onto whatever, we also still can build larger ones with the stationary weapons - it's reminding me of From The Depths, which is renowned for its intricacy in craft building, but these are more functional, easier to build, and look, dare I say it, better and more fun. Those turret-mounted spotlights are also a dream come true, and having them target allied or, in some cases (particularly if colors can be changed), enemy craft will be so interesting and fun.
Man why are all the space engineers cinematics so GOOD? Even the main menu background ones are really good! it’s also great to see the evolution of the faction’s ships compared to previous versions.
yes and no. Script based guided missile ships still outrange these weapons by far. Bu now you habe to use a lot of missiles since CIWS can be made to dish out exponentially more damage.
Probably don't get much credit in the industry because the game did a slow flop as people came to the realization that Keen was never going to be capable of making it run well online. You can't fight two ships without a lagfest and frame drops, a battle like this is pure fantasy unless it's being played out on a lan over top of the line gaming computers. Keen had neat ideas for the time SE was first coming out, but they could never properly execute the hard parts (net code mostly). TBH instead of trying to make the game a small scale mmo, or at least persistent survival game, they should have billed it from the start as a sandbox and coop experience. A campaign something like beseige, but with more focus on killing enemy ai, and a similar coop experience, plus a sandbox where you could set up your own scenarios. The poor performance would have been much more acceptable there.
The latter scenes definitely remind me of Command and Conquer, quad cannons, tanks with two barrels, your defences getting hopelessly overrun Aah, the memories.
was just gonna say that. Considering the amount of ships and bases in matter of PCU the servers would be glowing red hot. Your 1st core in the processor would be a miniature sun.
Been playing this game since the very beginning when the alpha launched in 2013. And it has been my favorite game ever since. I love how to much the game and its community has grown over the years and I look forward to it growing still. Watching the red ship ram the blue ship in half is very nostalgic and is something I have replicated more than I care to admit. I still remember exploring the old asteroid map when it wasn't procedurally generated and my excitement when voxel deformation was introduced. This game has come a very long way since creative was added and its DirectX 9 days. I cant wait to see where it goes next. Maybe underwater. or maybe a procedural planet system to fill out the empty void with cities, ghost towns, alien ruins, dense jungles, volcanic hellscapes, tropical beaches, who knows. In an infinite universe, there are infinite possibilities to explore so lets see where we end up all we need to do is take the first step.
Now just need to nerf the jetpack accel/braking so that people actually use these cool vehicles in battle instead of flying in with the launcher dodging everything and respawning over and over again if they die for no cost at all.
i still remember back then....with no planets and all these things.....this game did really grow beautiful. Thank you^^ btw. i had to look twice because midway i thought i was watching a Star Wars episode.
After years, finally, I have a reason to get back into SE! Don't get me wrong, the other stuff they've been putting out was cool and all, but the weapons sandbox was just so dull it was hard to make stuff more complicated than just armor composition and hull design.... until now
I'd love to see TRACKS in a content pack as an alternative to wheels. This would be awesome for vehicle designs, and I'm pretty sure the community would be able to come up with some amazing creations. Like if you agree
I am a mec builder and you have just made me smile and made me super excited for this update now my mecs will have railguns and autocannons and now artillery for my sniper models can't wait!!!!!
These trailers are always excellent and this update looks awesome. I can definitely see the spotlight being used for some cinematic scenes like a helicopter manhunt and the light panels will make some clean corridors
You know for a game that still looks like this. The editing on this video with the music had me locked in and watching every moment of it. Mad props to the editor
I have just so many ideas for custom turrets I can’t put them down! This update would be great for tanks too. No more do we have to have a rocket pod on a conveyor stick, now we can have actual artillery cannons. Outstanding job with this update
keen we needed this and i just wanna say all of you in keen software are amazing keep up the good work and for gods sake gimme more of these movies damn
Oh. My. God. This is what I've been waiting for for so many years! And finally this update is here. Hurray! Thank you for your long work. You love your creation. I love your creation. I'm just ssooooo happy!
No doubt the ship at the start is a stationary ship containing 16 players and the shots of it flying around are a ship with only 1 player on board, with the other 15 now switched over to acting as the ground crew. If every ship in this video had multiple people on it (as is implied), the server would be a slide show.
This is a not a speedometer, but an accelerometer. In this game you can reach some speed, like 100 m/s and just turn off inertial dampeners, so you will fly at that speed, but "speedomenter" will show 0.
@@RealAp6ahob While that may be true, what are the chances that the pilot was saving fuel by coasting the ship, rather than it being a stationary ship with a shake effect added in post? That's something a player might do, but not a developer with infinite fuel and ammo.
These are getting ridiculous in terms of scale and detail! I really appreciate the work you put into this game, and SE remains one of my most played games of all time :D
This game never ceases to amaze me. This trailer gives me chills. I wish my computer didn't brick itself lol. Excited to rejoin the community once I have enough money for a one!

The new blocks look great and all, but I think i had more fun with this trailer spotting cool vehicles new and old. :P For instance those green team Landers look like a slightly updated version of one of my favourite ships from the workshop. :D Phenomenal trailer.
this trailer makes the game out to be more than it is... the official game servers only host a mas of 16 players the last time I looked. This trailer makes it out to be more of a mmo than it is.
Sucks that everything in this trailer needs you to have like 10-20 friends ready to get together & play. The singleplayer experience is an an absolute WASTELAND with nothing to do except build bigger stuff just to have bigger stuff now. The complete lack of any sense of PvE in this game sucks & it continues to feel like the devs have built a fun sandbox but forgotten to add the game. Really hard to come up with goals when playing if not playing with other people. You just build stuff ~for the sake of it~ as there is no meaningful adversary whatsoever. Even with mods the actual gameplay experience without a group of people ready to play together isn't remotely like this trailer at all & more like a whole lot of nothing most of the time.
What I wanna know, is the details of the world/server settings for that to _not_ be lagging like mad with 20+ ships (~10+ large-grid, similar or more small-grid) not only moving, but firing at, and tearing each other apart...
As someone who has almost no one to play this game with, I can't even comprehend what it'd actually be like to have that many people in the same game lol, still, super good video, definitely gonna get me back into it.
The first space battle scene music has a definite BSG vibe to it... a tiny bit of shakey cam, rapid zoom, and camera hit by debris effect would have made it 100%... _AESTHETIC_
Yo space engineers team. If you make your game not lag when people play together that would be great. Good PCs, good servers, no mods game always lags.

The trailer was fantastic! When i saw the new modular turets I gasped, no joke.
2:00 Love the homage to the classic ramming scene. Those Red and Blue ships sure have come a long way, and evolved!
Watching the blocks deform in the original ram scene was what finished selling the game for me waaaaaaaay back, loved the reference, haha.
I was just about to comment that. Sent shiveres down my spine and reminded me of the alpha days
