Having spent considerable time talking with Brett in person, we can tell you that his thoughtful, thorough outlook on just about everything related to the RV business is not in any way put on here just for the camera. He's the most knowledgable person on the business side of RVing we've ever met... and sincere, dedicated and caring as the day is long. We've personally seen his leadership at NIRVC in action, with an overall commitment to quality and customer care that really shows. His thoughts on this topic carry a ton of weight, which means so much to us as fellow Newmar owners.

      Wow and thank you!!!
Peter and John, those are the words that immediately came to my mind when I read your comment this morning. Your comment certainly made my day and my week! Your generously kind words meant a lot coming from a couple of very experienced fellow full timers and Mountain Aire owners.
I must say, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute I’ve gotten to spend with the two of you. You guys are certainly a very big part of the glue that binds this whole lifestyle we all love and call RVing. I’m looking forward to many more good times ahead!
Safe travels and all the best my friends,
      Brett

As far as the coach....best one ever built! It’s my passion! Just took a 10 day trip about 700 miles and it’s like a 10 star hotel with ALL the amenities. Hope to see you soon! Thanks again for the commentary!!

As usual, good message, and hoping all goes well with the purchase. I might add that we are now Entegra owners and you were a very big part in that decision, and we are very pleased. I'm adding my response because, as you may remember, we were Winnebago owners and very displeased with the quality control and customer service. Hopefully for Newmar's sake this has changed. Good luck to you and your customers, hoping this turns out well.

Thank you for taking the time to watch our video, and leaving a comment. Here’s a link to a video I shot on 4/24/20 which will give you my thoughts:
      ua-cam.com/video/ZyYZECzz7Xg/v-deo.html
As an investor I learned a longtime ago to remain unemotional and rely solely on the information. Since you brought it up, I thought I’d take a minute to share some of the numbers behind my logic and my statement in the video I referenced above.
Here are a few pre-pandemic statistics about U.S. air travel and RVs:
      1. Airlines receive about 60% of their revenue from passengers directly with the remaining 40% coming from selling frequent flier miles to credit card companies.
      2. According to the FAA 2,789,971 passengers fly everyday in and out of U.S. airports.
      3. Business travelers account for 12% of airline passengers, but up to 75% of profits.
      4. 2,534,374 passengers fly for leisure or personal reasons everyday.
      5. There’s a little over 10 million total registered RVs in the U.S. (motorized and towables).
      6. There were 6,370 new diesel coaches and 11,412 gas coaches sold retail in 2019.
As you can see, there are more personal airline passengers in a single day than there are total Class A Diesel and Gas coaches registered in the U.S. And, only 4 days of personal airline passengers to exceed the total number of registered RVs (motorized and towable) in the U.S.
The point I was trying to make in the video was simply, any drop off in personal air travel passengers (no matter how small) in favor of RV travel would be huge to the RV industry, and lost in the rounding to the airline industry. Basically, when elephants move, small things leap.
I certainly wasn’t espousing the RV market would cannibalize the airline market. I also pointed out a second truth... RV sales went up significantly post 9/11, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen again in the wake of this Pandemic.
As a side note, TSA security checks on 4/24/20 (the day I shot the video) were 123,464 versus 2,521,897 on 4/24/19. A stunning 95.1% decline! Or, put another way, on 4/24/20 airlines only had 4.9% of the revenue they had the year prior to operate on. I suspect hotel occupancies and rental cars agencies would fair only slightly better. Fortunately, RV sales are not off anywhere near 95.1%. In fact, knock on wood, they’re actually booming!
      All the best,
      Brett Davis

Brett Davis has the perfect background & knowledge to articulate on the acquisition. Thanks Brett for taking the time to share your thoughts. We hope your explanation will put a lot of people who chose to purchase a Newmar at ease. When a Newmar is purchased, the buyers become a member of the Newmar family of owners. The same is true when you purchase a motorhome from NIRVC. We know because we are "family members" of both. Changes, especially within a family nucleus, can be exciting or nerve-racking. Brett's perception should help calm a lot of anxiety. Thanks again Brett! Pat Genell & Judy Holly-Storms

This gentleman from NIRVC did an good job of being honest with his customers. People can tell when someone is lying just to sell something. His passion for his business is clear and the CEO of Winnebago should do something like this. I looked at a new Winnebago Tour last year and was shocked at how dated the interior looked. No wonder they stopped production. The Horizon is a good start with a more updated look so I hope that is a good sign for the future. Still the quality needs to match the look.

My observations are very different. While he may observe the stock market / investor / wall street aspect, I look at it from the consumer aspect. Winnebago has stated that the Newmar nameplate will remain. They said the same thing about Itasca. Five years later the Itasca name no longer exists. Many consumers in the pleasure boat arena will tell that Chris Craft boats were once the standard of the industry. Today Chris Craft boats under ownership of Winnebago are nothing more than run-of-the mill middle quality boats. The components from outside vendors in Newmar's are far superior than those in Winnebago's. Many blogs complain about Winnebago corporate customer service while Newmar customer service complaints are far less. I believe that this a combination of product quality and true customer care. I fully believe that Newmar will be dragged down to the Winnebago level and not Winnebago being brought up to the Newmar standard.

      Paul,
First and foremost, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to listen to my thoughts and leaving a comment.
Secondly, I’m wondering if you’d come to the same conclusions about the current leadership of Winnebago if the events you refer to were put in proper chronological order?
You correctly site Winnebago dropping the Itasca nameplate. The announcement of Winnebago’s decision to drop the Itasca nameplate was announced and published on 11/12/2015 in RV Business as a part of a 2 year plan. However, this decision and announcement was made by the prior (not current) leadership of Winnebago who had a very different strategy that ultimately lead to them being replaced. Winnebago’s current President and CEO, Michael Happe (whom I’ve never met), was brought in from the outside (formerly with Toro) on 1/18/16 to lead Winnebago in a different direction and I believe his actions and performance speak for themselves.
You point to the deterioration of Chris Craft under Winnebago to the point it’s now just a “run of the mill middle quality” boat. Again, the quality of the Chris Craft boats you point to happened under Chris Craft’s prior ownership and leadership as Winnebago didn’t acquire Chris Craft until 6/4/18. Winnebago has barely owned Chris Craft for a year. I would submit to you that whatever Chris Craft is or isn’t today it was defined by prior ownership and NOT the current leadership of Winnebago.
As to your comment that there appears to be more Winnebago service complaints than Newmar, I would like to point out there are more than four times as many Winnebago motorized units on the road than there are Newmar’s, so I would expect for there to be more Winnebago service complaints than Newmar. However, as a dealer, from a warranty service and parts authorization standpoint, Winnebago is simply stellar.
Again, thank you for your time, thoughts and comment. All the best,
      Brett Davis

Thank you Brett for your perspective, that I happen to agree with. We Entegra owners had the same concerns when Thor acquired Jayco (Entegra). As a long time owner of Newmar coaches and now a dealer who sells and services Newmar coaches, I hope my views are correct as well.
Early indications in the two months since the acquisition are very good. The management of Newmar is clearly in charge of operating every aspect of their business just like they always have. Now, here’s to hoping the Newmar management team will continue to deliver in the future like they have in the past.
      All the best,

Brett, thank you for your posting. I don't agree with each and every one of your opinions, however I value your well thought-through analysis and you do make several points that I hadn't considered.
I still have serious concerns about Winnebago, especially after their seemingly poorly planned acquisition of the Country Coach facilities in Oregon and then almost immediately dropping out of the luxury Class A diesel sector for the past two years.
NIRVC remains my first choice for purchase, service and storage. I would have driven to Phoenix, Texas, or even Atlanta to buy from NIRVC, however early this year you opened a brand new facility in Las Vegas, about ten miles from my home. Yay!
And the Newmar King Aire remains my choice as the ideal motorhome in my price range, although I am REALLY disappointed that they canceled the 4578 within a month or two of announcing the 2020 product line and releasing brochures. I wonder what the chances are of special ordering a 4578?
Good luck to the NIRVC team. You have set a high standard in the industry.

Once I got over the initial shock, I looked deeper into this acquisition and was surprised at how well this was a good fit. Of the big four RV corporations, Winnebago Ind closest mirrored the values that Newmar has demonstrated. As far a Newmar's future, I believe this will only serve to strengthen them and, in the end, we'll all win.
