I have this mower. It’s a good maintenance mower if grass is being cut every 5-7 days. I have TTTF that I keep mowed at 3- 4 inches, so this mower does well with that. Whenever I mowed at 2 inches or lower, this mower does not have a decent suction. I have the battery kombi head, so I use this mower and the kombi with 3 AP 300 batteries to care for 8000 sqft of lawn.

I have an 85 year Snapper 21 with a 4 horse Briggs for a spare when this job lays down. NO WAY will I give up my old gas jobs totally. I REALLY like the features on the Stihl but the old Snapper still goes. Will the Stihl go that long? I have other Stihl equipment too and it has served me VERY well but we shall see. I have an 85 Stihl blower with the vacuum attachment that is a dandy. I also have an Echo that I use to blow the leaves with and leave the vacuum on the Stihl. I mainly got the 510V for my wife. She wanted a mower without a pull starter. Now she has one. Thanks and Blessings

Bought one exactly the same, battery on charge now so can’t wait to give it a go

I have this mower, good luck with cleaning the underside. It’s a major issue with all battery type mowers. I spend at least 45 minutes with a vegetable brush and soapy water to carefully clean the underside. I’m going to try ceramic coating next. My only real complaint with it.

If you have a yard with trees and you expect this mower to "vacuum" like a gas mower does, you should disabuse yourself of that notion immediately. My gas mower will suck up most yard debris like leaves, small twigs, etc when I bag...this mower will roll right over them without disturbing them. The reason for this is obviously the blade; it is not a high lift design, and Stihl refuses to offer one. Obviously a high lift blade would require a bit more power, resulting in a bit less runtime, and apparently runtime trumps all other considerations for Stihl. I'm already into the Stihl AK and AP battery lines, which is why I chose the 510. However, since I bag and since the 510 performs poorly in this area, I got rid of it and am again using my gas mower.

I have a 12,000 square foot suburban yard with 60 foot Poplar and Ash trees. It is true that the Stihl 510 has about 3/4 of the vacuum ability of my gas powered mower that finally died after 18 years of service. This estimate is based on what I saw left in the thatch of my lawn. This is not an issue with me. At year end before the snow, I mow low, slow, and at right angles (cross mowing) for maximum pickup. This is what I did with my gas powered lawnmower anyway. I am NOT going back to gas powered lawnmowers that need annual tune ups!

I have the Greeenworks 60v pro 51cm mower and it has same style deck design and same blade as this mower. The Greenworks mower runs at 2800 rpm all the time and ramps up to 3200rpm when it hits thicker grass. It has a turbo button which means you can run the mower at 3200 rpm constantly. It would not surprise me if Greenworks copied the same design and features from the stihl mower. The greeworks mower comes with a high lift blade and suction is not as good as a gas mower. This is a common issue with pretty much all battery mowers.

I recently purchased the latest ego mower with a high lift blade. It vacuums a little better than Greenworks mower on high headspeed but still not as good as a gas mower. Ego select cut mower has dual blades resulting in a better cut.... but it is not a big difference to the way the Greenworks mower cuts on its highest headspeed. The Ego mower spins blades at 2800 rpm while the greeworks spins blades at 3200rom on high headspeed.

After 2 years the propel cable from switch unit to hand bar broke (on hook).
The little lead is about 10cm long.
Stihl does not supply. It does supply the whole switch unit. However the electric cable disappears into head unit. Looks like a workshop job.
So for a miserable little cable, a bill about the size of 1/3rd of total skin price needs to be paid. Alas there are two of these leads. So if you get the job done ask for the old switch back, and have salvage parts for future.😂

About how long is your run time for this battery would you say?

It really depends on grass length and how often I am using the self propelled option. On average, I would saw close to 1 hour per battery.

It cuts and mulches well but that's it. I run it on max and it refuses to pick up 90% of the pine needles and dead dry leaves no matter what the depth setting is. The blade sits too high in the deck and is a wrong design; not enough lift. It's going back because I don't intend to rake every damn time I cut the grass. I cut at 3 inches because of the local heat

I was told you have to be pushing the lawnmower before engaging the self propelled, and let go of it before you stop pushing it. I forgot to tell my son when he borrowed it, now the back left tire won't turn when you push the lawnmower, but turns when you engage the self propelled. Do you know what could cause that

    • @thedroesslers
      @thedroesslers  Рік тому

I do not know what would cause that. I also had not heard that you should be pushing the lawnmower before engaging the self propelled so I have not been doing that and I have not had any problems (yet).

You’re engage, cog is stuck. It should disengage when there is no power to the self propelling motor.

I have a Greenworks 60v pro 51cm mower and it does the same thing. If you keep the self propelled on and let go the wheel stay locked for two seconds before they release if you try and reverse the mower. This is probably why they say to push the mower after you disengage the self propel. The Greenworks mower is pretty much a copy of the stihl mower.... they just changed some of the looks and the way some things function.

This happens to my Greenworks 60v pro 51cm mower..... I just engage self propel and push mower then release self propel and keep pushing.... repeat it a few times then the wheel disengages and you should be able to push it freely without engaging self propel.
