The actors behind them are adorable and cute but although they did great at what they do it unfortunately doesn’t fit the monster high characters we grew up with. I blame the reboot directors and casters. The actors looks sweet thooo
Sure, it is not the exact same as Monster High was like we apparently expected (which shouldn't have happened at all because it's clearly a reboot 💀), I am overall very excited for this upcoming movie and g3 TV show. I noticed that a lot of people who hate this new generation of Monster High are going and attacking and harassing the actors and actresses and it's not ok. It makes me wanna cry, it was not their fault at all! Lagoona's voice actress for the g3 TV show already said she was deleting Instagram for a while to bring her mental health back up. It's sad, it really is. People are taking it too far.. As an OG fan I am severely dissapointed in the OG fans doing this, this is not what Monster High taught us at all 😭

Yeah if it’s just “inspired” they should not have used the title and all the characters. Inspiration would be them making their own monster high school with original characters and maybe some references to the old school/characters or something.

Everyone is talking about the fact they took away clawdeen's implied queerness but also Clawdeen was originally the undeniable brown skinned one of her sisters (even in the doll version) and they replaced her with a mixed or ambiguous woman. Which is an continuing problem from the media. Only using the "acceptable" "black person, hair never too coily, skin never too dark, and never too unambiguously black.
Yes and they even had to darken Cleo’s actors skin tone cause she wasn’t dark enough…like then get a darker actor wtf???
I would love this if the director wasn't a racist, if they didn't darkened Cleo's actress' skin to fit the skin tone and erased Clawdeen's sexuality from being a lesbian to being straight. Soooo yeah no imma pass
Edit: the original creator confirmed clawdeen was a lesbian in a live stream qna on Instagram literally this year during pride month aka June. I'm fine with Frankie being nonbinary- I don't like what they did to Draculaura or Ghoulia or Abbey and I especially do not like how they broke up Cleo and Deuce for being "toxic" when the toxic couple was Gil and Lagoona because Lagoona does not deserve to be treated like this nor does Gil deserve her if he isn't going to stand up for her against his racist parents. She deserves better. I hope this answers everyone's questions.
Same, when I saw the ad I was just like "Wasn't the original main character Frankie? I mean it does focus on her mainly at the beginning." But the biggest turn off we how they interpreted Draculura (I think I misspelled her name)

But not soo much with Clawdeen.
1st of all (even if we assume she was intended) Clawdeen hasn't shown very CLEAR and like CONFIRMED intresed in girls through the series and movies.
Literaly if anything her diary said she liked to flirt with BOYS and in that one scene (I think it was the Halloween party movie) she was all over Draculas MALE COUSIN.
Yes some characters alredy got erased even in g1(were mattel said ''its not the right time''), were makers did confirm there sexuality outside of the original canon. Like Valentine beeing gay ore that faceless ghost. (Edit Kyomi was her name right??)
But the actuall statement about Clawdeen was completly taken out of context by the fans, as the statement pretty much goes (not word for word) ''NO, she was never intended to be a lesbian, just not as boy crazy as Draculaura ore Frankie as they served enough.''
The creator then also stated that he does like the idea and that the fans can go with it. The last part is what fans now scream as ''canon'' tho its just at best an aproved FANON.
The creator literaly confirmed she wasn't Designed as a lesbian to beginn with, the series didn't make her one and at last when he wasn't even working at mattel anymore...THEN he LIKED the idea.
I know I would like a lesbian Clawdeen too!! (Actually also headcanoned her as ace/aro) but we can't cancel the creators gor atleast THAT. She isn't erased. Fact.
Still HOPE for the series to get better (not much hooe for the movie) and maybe the return of actually gay Valentine ore confirmed lez Kyomi, maybe also a bi Frankie.
Edit: (like the actually 3 one) we also need to remember its a reeboot not a revival of the original....soo some changes can literaly be made and we can't say much. The racism still stands tho!!! No discussion.

People are telling me that Garret said she was never supposed to be lesbian but he supports the headcanon but others are telling me that he confirmed it so I want to know when he confirmed it. I don't dislike that it's confirmed or headcanoned and I can actually see her being lesbian however I am just confused as to whether or not it has actually been confirmed by Garret or Mattel.

Ikr Cleo had so much character development just for them to send her back to season 1 Abby’s still in the movie I think just a background character maybe ?

The human world and monster world existed since that one movie Ghouls Rule (the Halloween one), and Cleo was a bully in the very beginning but she stopped early on.
Because its a reboot not a revival its a different world so the characters will be different

Okay I have to agree, I mean the actors aside they did good I'm sure of it but the look wise they really could have done better cause the looks didn't look similar at all they could have Atleast maybe tried to stay close to the original look and they change looks often so there were alot of options these ones didn't do the actors justice

I wish the reboot was just a whole new class of ghouls. They changed it so much that is practically is anyway so just take that extra step and have the original group in the background as seniors or graduates SOMETHING.
That or make a show about their siblings or more family or friends

The cast members looked cute and no one should hate them, but I wish this was like a 2nd generation for monster high instead of reboot.

I fucking HATED monster high live action ngl. The botched it so bad, theres so much fuckin wrong with it, but one of the things I hated the most was how they did LGBTQ reprisentation. Ya monster high had alot of LGBTQ representation(loved that), but it was SUBTLE. AS IT SHOULD BE:")(in my opinion) Nobody is going around and yelling there gender or secuality loud and clear, trans, gay, straight, whatever are still just poeple at the end of the day. Nothing special lol
It's a bad film, but we shouldn't be blaming that on the explicit LGBT representation. The original monster high had 0 LGBT characters. Clawdeen was only revealed as a lesbian after the original doll line was killed, and planned to be rebooted.
Monster High dolls served as an outlet for a lot of closeted LGBT youth, and to say that the new film is bad because of its out and proud LGBT themes is a bad take. Literally the motto for Monster High is "We are monsters we are proud, we are monsters say it loud"

That defiently isn't the only reason why this movie is bad, but it's one of the ones that annoyed me, because I love LGBTQ representation but the movie just didn't do it in a realistic way in my opinion. Also wasn't the yeti girl confirmed to be trans after the show? And monster high was canceled because of there LGBTQ characters? I dunno lol, just a guess

Since Clawdeen is like, a new student, maybe sooner or later, she'll discover that she's a lesbian for Draculaura, maybe even Cleo, Toralei, Frankie (wink wink, I have no idea who is the best candidate). We'll never know honestly.

@@ectopasta ah nope, The original creator never said Clawdeen was a lesbian, its 100% fan stuff. he said he could imagine her as queer but he *never said she was one* and he didn't say lesbian specifically, he did say *he sees her as a strong female character who in not boy-crezy like her gulefriends, who doesn't need anyone or any relationship and that doesn't automatically translate to lesbian.* Women are allowed to be strong characters without being lesbian
In addition, unlike other characters that he DID want and thought should be gay or on the queer spectrum like Valentine, who were heavily hinted at in various merchandising (like the books and diaries of the characters, things on the website and things that came with the dolls) Clawdeen NEVER had anything like that or even close In any example I gave above.

I feel so bad for the cast having to deal with all this backlash, it’s not their fault the movie is s**t, it’s literally EVERYONE ELSES. Besides that the cast is downright adorable and sweet, and deserve to be on other, BETTER, projects.
I don’t mind a lot of the live action looks I just really don’t like Lagoona because they made her idk too cute too Princess mermaid ish. Like what made her unique was her fishy skin and big monster eyes after all she is a monster.

I don't see other ppl stating this so I'll say it. How they did Draculora dirty pisses me off. Well all the characters are done dirty, but yea. Draculora was always my favs because she represented the vampire goth aesthetic. Why is she asian now? That is like a complete wash of the ALREADY established eastern European folklore. Also she's a witch too???????? Is she a vampire or a witch? That makes no damn sense. I wanted to talk about the others too, Clawdeen in particular of how they were afraid to not make her "black" enough???? And how she's half human now???? but I already see other comments addressing more or less what I was gonna say. I and other old school fans of monster high might sound sensitive and obnoxious to newer fans or non fans but you honestly can't blame us for our reactions. This is why reboots are very risky and 99.9% of the time and a hella BAD idea!

So much hate in these comments on what changes LITERALLY brought the IP back stronger than ever. NOMINATED FOR 6 EMMYS and well deserved!! These actors were brilliant and the WHOLE team made instant masterpiece classics along with soundtracks that were phenomenal. Things change just like the message from the second movie, we need the old gen and new gen to come together and accept EVERYONE, unless you old gens want your precious little history to destroy monster high again... Imo they should have hired better fitting actors appearance wise,, im sure they are perfectly sweet but some of the actors just don't fit well. and maybe consulted cosplayers/fans of the series on costume design and cmooon just let them have the accents

I hate that it's live action, it's very descendants/zombie vibe and personally I'm not here for it. Would have loved a beautifully animated movie. Also the erasure of clawdeens sexuality and the darkening of skin on actresses to match the skin tone desired is also a put off. I would have rather have had no movie vs whatever they churned out instead. Also, they had a character already representing the community that they changed. I'm nonbinary and I love representation, but only when it's seamless and fits. The whole Lagoona is dumb but knows pronouns felt jagged and forced.

Honestly I'm kinda excited for the reboot. I do like some of the changes they made, like Frankie's pronouns and ngl I love Draculara's look. Of course there are things I'm less than thrilled about but it was bound to happen since they aren't sticking closely to the source material. I'm sad that Clawdeen won't be getting a female love interest the most though
