This video is transferred from a historical 35mm cine-film, one of the best preserved in my collection. The ancient german fairy tale Hansel and Gretel of the Brothers Grimm.
This is good quality cinematography. I am surprised this is listed as made in 1908. I would have expected more like 1912 or 1913. If it really is 1908, then it is outstanding for its time because there was a rapid improvement in film-making between 1910 and 1912 thanks to the film industries in Italy and Denmark.
Very definitely the German Fita film of 1908 and not the US film of 1909 (Mary Fuller who played Gretel was twenty years old and doing a "Mary Pickford"!). As well as the titles mentioned below for Fita, there was also an Aschenputtel (Cinderella) from 1913.
I have an identical fim in my collection, although my film is missing the intertitles. The following text is printed on the side of the film 'Messter film Berlin'.

+Cinegraphica That's interresting! Your information confirms this is the 1908 Messter film production 'Hänsel und Gretel'.
Why is it green and not in blackn and white?
Ricky_99 This film is tinted , like most of the films from the silent era. Films like this were often soaked in dye for setting moods.
ГЕНЗЕЛЬ И ГРЕТЕЛЬ(1909).
