The referee number 5 is the great Mendy Rudolph. This was one of the last games he called. On April 25, 1975 in a game between the Braves and the Bullets, Rudolph collapsed due to a blood clot in his leg breaking free and lodging in his lung. Rudolph survived but had to retire from refereeing. He was inducted into the basketball HOF in 2007.
I like to dedicate this Sonics game in memory of my late father who was a big fan and telling me those stories about the players from the 70's. I do remember watching this game with him, I was five years old and that time. This was the Sonics first playoff appearance and four years later they were champions in 1979.
That's my favorite NBA theme. I remember it well watching the NBA as a young 7 yr old fan. Sure it's cheesy as hell, but it brings back memories of watching these games with my dad.
Great upload, Dave!!! As a lifelong Chicago Bulls fan, the 1975 NBA playoffs was one of the most painful sports memories of my childhood. The Bulls had a 3-1 advantage over the Warriors in the Western Conference finals, but Rick Barry just wouldn't let them lose. From the start of the '75 playoffs until the final buzzer of the finals, Rick Barry's performance was one of the greatest sustained playoff performances in NBA history, and nobody ever talks about it. He almost single-handedly willed them to the NBA championship.
Once again, sir, you’ve done yourself to me a kid that grew up in the 70s to me. This was the ultimate NBA. I find myself watching these old games more than I do anything today. These were the good old days.
I could probably still name the starting 5 on every team in the early 70's from watching the lakers games broadcast on ktla5. Len Shackleford was a #1 draft pick of the then san diego rockets and was the color analyst along side the all time great Chick Hearn and was announcing in this game too.
Thank you for this! Any vintage Sonic games is very much welcomed and appreciated. At 7 years old the first Sonics game I ever went to at the Coliseum was against these same two teams in this same season just a few months before. The Warriors blew us out of the gym by about 25 or so but that was the day I became a sports fan and Sonics fan for life. Seeing this brings it all back and I thank you a million for that.
Great stuff! This is the final loss for the Warriors in the 1975 playoffs. Closed with six consecutive wins to complete the greatest upset in NBA postseason history.
Dave, another gem. Please post more 1970's NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WHA & ABA games. The enhancements are outstanding. I know it takes time editing & converting VHS tapes & DVD's. I've been using Pinnacle Studio for years when I upload TWIPF DVD's that I purchase to my UA-cam channel.
So many of these players made an impression on my young self. ...Slick Watts, starting here over "downtown" Freddy Brown, was a man with a "brand" before his time.
Keep up the great work Dave...even commercials ...lol.. Miss the great 70s NBA games..was wondering if you can add more 70s NBA Games..List - maybe 1 game Cleveland Cavs vs Celtics 1976 series ..maybe some 1979 Sonics vs Bullets series or even a NY Nets ABA game if you can find it..
My dad used to complain about his no power Forum Gold Gremlin(no blue) that he drove every day including taking us kids to the Lakers games to see the newly acquired Lew Alcindor in fall 1975. We went to a lot of games. Cant believe he didnt pay the 69 extra dollars for the upgraded engine.
This was the Sonics' (they really need to be back in Seattle) first year in the playoffs. They had beaten the Pistons in the first round and would force this series with the eventual NBA champions to six games.
The high water mark for Bill Russel's post-Boston coaching career...Nick to see 'Slick' Watts with the headband and the high socks and Spencer Heywood Again!
I was always a big Rick Barry fan but back in the day only being able to see him on 📺 was very rare and was depressing watching him play poorly and fouling out after watching this game only because of him. Thank you so much for this game and loved the commericials along with some of your other viewers. Dont like the game now with the 3pt free for all and love these old games. 👍
Nice time capsule before the great rivalry between Magic and Bird, then the appearance of Jordan, that exploded interest in the NBA and made it what it is today.
I remember when Daryl Dawkins broke the backboard at kemper arena, I turned on the radio and they were in a delay, the kings player who got the worst of it was Bill robinzine
The game sure has changed since. Notice how they run more, the pace is faster and no one is standing around. Everyone is moving. The only problem I have is the camera work is not nearly as good.
And this was also a VERY physical and chippy series. There were several fights throughout. In fact, the Warriors literally had to fight their way off the floor after closing out the series in Seattle in Game 6.
Alex Karras was a real joker and saw him as a guest on Johnny Carson a few times while he described the 63 yard Dempsey field that kept his lions out of the playoffs
Tom Burleson looked pretty damn good for a rookie in this game, great touch, good D and rebounding I'm surprised he didnt become a star later if this game was any indication.
It was great they added the disco tunes before the commercial breaks -- Blue Eyed Soul by Carl Douglas (20:22), Never Can Say Goodbye (45:00) and Honeybee (37:41) by Gloria Gaynor and Shame, Shame, Shame by Shirley and Company (28:00).
Dial it up on utube as pete maravich 68pt game against the new york knicks after Atlanta traded him to the jazz. Best complete game I've ever seen a player have.
Although Seattle won this game they lost this series to the 1975 NBA champs . They gave the Warriors a better series than did the KC Jones led Bullets in the finals .
Wow, not a good night for Mendy Rudolph 17:47-19:49-22:30-23:43-24:25. All crappy calls. He was considered a great ref, but all the refs sucked back then. I know that there is a lot of criticism of modern-day refs but they are WAY better than the old timers
Incredible to find the full game broadcast with the commercials like this from so far back. Thank you so much.

All-time great!
Watched many a lakers game with him referring. He was always at the top of the class for many many years.
Sports history will forever be grateful for you you Dave.

love that opening theme song---brings back so many memories
That's my favorite NBA theme. I remember it well watching the NBA as a young 7 yr old fan. Sure it's cheesy as hell, but it brings back memories of watching these games with my dad.
I thought the same thing. Especially the drum fills lol. So 70's. I used to love hearing it as much as watching the game.

Yes, grew up in the Bay Area and Barry was a stud. Beating the Bulls with Van Lier and Sloan was a great series.
Thank you for the original 1975 NBA playoff game, Mister Volsky! Do more of the 70's!!
Thank you for including the commercials. They're a huge part of the experience.
This is Gold with the local commercials as a bonus.
Once again, sir, you’ve done yourself to me a kid that grew up in the 70s to me. This was the ultimate NBA. I find myself watching these old games more than I do anything today. These were the good old days.
I also love watching games from the ‘70’s & ‘80’s compared to today’s games
@@thehec8 Same here.

All present day basketball fans need to watch this game repeatedly.
Oh how times have changed.."You See the best in basketball when you watch the NBA/ When you watch the NBA on CBS".. Great 70's jam
The theme music for my favorite NBA era.
I love the drum fills. So 70's.
After months of looking at this game, since UA-cam removed this for some reason, it's finally back.
Thanks, Dave!
Lets hope they leave it up this time. Is there anyway to download it in case UA-cam removes it again?
Slick and downtown were my idols as a kid! Thx for posting this throwback!
love these older broadcasts, the music, and enjoy the commentators much better than today.
Rick Barry will forever be the only player to have led the NCAA, ABA, and NBA in scoring.

This was the time I started to become a Sonics fan at age 5. My late father took me to the Coliseum to see the games.
Sucha great time in America! Bring it back!
I know I wasn't born yet but it's great 2 c how the NBA was back in the(early & mid) 70s
"Three to Make Two" epic!!
Before Curry, Thompson, Green, Hardaway, Richmond, and Mullin, it was Barry, Mullins, Thurmond, and Wilkes.
Wilt also played for the Warriors when they first moved to SF from Philly. That's a great list that you provided.
The warriors coach al attels was also a warrior guard.
A Seattle SuperSonics game on your channel Dave? Your channel has come full circle now. What a great find!
Tremendous find & restoration!! 👏
This is nice!! I was 16 in 75 and remember this game thanks for the post got any regular season games from the 70"s like this one?
The video on this game is fantastic compared to most from the era
Great stuff! This is the final loss for the Warriors in the 1975 playoffs. Closed with six consecutive wins to complete the greatest upset in NBA postseason history.
This is awesome Dave! 1974-75 Warriors were an exciting team.
Thanks for another great NBA upload 👍
Love the old games.
Great stuff -History brought back to life..."Give it all you got, take your very best shot.."
I remember Seattle Supersonic Slick Watts with ‘the distinctive headband’.Great to watch as I had just graduated from the 8th grade.
Thank you! Awesome quality and great game.
The (quality of the) transfer looks fantastic, I doubt it looked half as good in 1975.
Classic Rick Barry With His Underhanded Free Throws !!!
It's funny how the Sonics uniforms are almost exactly the same as the Celtic uniforms because Bill Russell was the GM.
The television graphics were even more primitive than even I can remember. Looks to be back in the 1800s.
Thanks for the upload. Love those old commercials
Great Memories from 1975. Nearly 50 years ago.
This was worth it just to see Big Bill Russell on the sidelines( the commercials weren't bad either).
Slick Watts and his headband ... a young Jamaal Wilkes, too
So many of these players made an impression on my young self. ...Slick Watts, starting here over "downtown" Freddy Brown, was a man with a "brand" before his time.
Grateful for this game. Thank you
The good old days

Once again, CBS much better at archiving their games than NBC!
Incredible; thank you, Dave!
Wow, what a find, Dave! I will definitely be watching this game before the night is through 😃 Keep ‘em coming! 🏀
The high water mark for Bill Russel's post-Boston coaching career...Nick to see 'Slick' Watts with the headband and the high socks and Spencer Heywood Again!
1:49:30 oh that 70's NBA!
There were several such occurrences in this series.
Jerry West with the interview
Nice time capsule before the great rivalry between Magic and Bird, then the appearance of Jordan, that exploded interest in the NBA and made it what it is today.
Thank you Dave!
If Rick Barry had played in the 80s instead of the 70s, he'd be mentioned in the same breath as Larry Bird.
I consider him to be the only player ever to win his team a championship. I'll have to look more in it all
@@lukesmith9692that team was solid and Barry definitely had more help than most say.
I watched this game only because of him only to see him foul out with only 11pts. Very depressing and was hope n for maybe a more likely 40pt game. 😊
@@lukesmith9692jabbar his first championship in Milwaukee before Robertson
@lukesmith9692 also Bill Walton with Portland. After those three I can't really think of any others we'll maybe Dirk in 2011? IDK
It would be cool if you could find a Kansas City king game,Sam lacy,Otis birdsong,Scott wedman, they were competitive until they moved to Sacramento
Absolutely!! Another forgotten team from the 70's!
Phil Ford
I remember when Daryl Dawkins broke the backboard at kemper arena, I turned on the radio and they were in a delay, the kings player who got the worst of it was Bill robinzine
@@markmoore236 Great Call...RIP Robinzine
Dave, I would love to send you games that I have on DVD. You do such a great job!

9:15 Classic Ad Alex Karras & Jim Plunkett
52:24 Morgan Freeman for Sure Deodorant
Alex Karras was a real joker and saw him as a guest on Johnny Carson a few times while he described the 63 yard Dempsey field that kept his lions out of the playoffs
Tom Burleson looked pretty damn good for a rookie in this game, great touch, good D and rebounding I'm surprised he didnt become a star later if this game was any indication.
One season he played good minutes and then became I bench player to no minutes. Strange
What a great channel.
Commentators:
Don Criqui & Jerry West (in Houston)
Frank Glieber & Lynn Shackelford (in Seattle)
“Over the back” Yes.
Thanks for proving to everyone that the Golden State Warriors existed before Steph.
Right On!!
Frank Mieuli had a chance for a Warriors dynasty but not willing to spend to keep the players.
Very interesting match. And especially interesting because there are not too many maychs from the 70's, unfortunately.
The coolest ref of all-time: Mendy Rudolph.
slick watts spencer haywood. tom burelson. those were the days love the supersonics
Frank Gleiber as well as Dick Stockton, Don Criqui and Gary Bender, rarely the #1 guy but always solid play by play!
At 1:06 , Don Robertson , the long time announcer for CBS Sports .
To think, on March 23,1974, Fred Brown racked up 58 points vs. Golden State.
I was at that game. He hit the game winner. He would easily hit 70 if the 3 pt line existed.
Much better game back then. Not like the 3 point shooting contest it’s turned into.
Watch the video where Pete Maravich lights up the New York Knicks for 68pts. The most complete games I've ever seen played.
Nothing like classic
Back in the early 70s Lynn shackelford Used to do play by play Alongside The legend Mister Chick Hearn in Los Angeles
When you were the color guy for Chick Hearn, your only role was to say "that's right, Chick".
Rick Berry was my favorite player Bob Macadu Connie Hawkins back in the seventies
Criqui wow really young...really cool
I was wondering who "keith" wilkes was lol
Always thought he was just a laker. Oh after I saw everyone of his ucla games with Bill Walton and Dick Enberg announcing
Stellar
Peace to Al Attles
When dribbling was actually dribbling
Jamaal Keith Wilkes before his Laker Showtime days.
And before his ucla career John Wooden coached bruins with Bill Walton
Rick Barry, history’s greatest alcoholic player
wow.. A young Morgan Freeman in a Sure add
4:47 The story of my life in less than 5 seconds. 🤣
Newlin must of did some blow before that interview with Jerry West 😂
Firstly let me thank you for your efforts and appreciate it so much. Just wondering if you have a complete game of Pistol Pete Maravich in his prime.
Search UA-cam... there are full games of Pistol before he started slowing down IE when he played for the Hawks. But the quality isn't Volsky quality.
Dial it up on utube as pete maravich 68pt game against the new york knicks after Atlanta traded him to the jazz. Best complete game I've ever seen a player have.
The old 3 to make 2
I'm surprised that Tom Burleson did not have a better career.
LOL, at 52:23 you have Morgan Freeman doing a Sure deodorant commercial! 🤣
Sweet! 👍
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Although Seattle won this game they lost this series to the 1975 NBA champs . They gave the Warriors a better series than did the KC Jones led Bullets in the finals .

Do you happen to have Eagles Oilers from 1988?
Back in the day, those rims were stiff as f@#k..
