I worked at Outer Limits when it first opened and the absolute best thing was when people hit the top of the stairs and heard the launch but had no idea what was happening. And we’d only fill the stalls with the next riders so they’d only see it launch once before getting on it themselves. The reactions from guests were priceless!
Funny that I just come across this ride browsing King Islands page, searched up a quick pov and it instantly sparked a memory, I remember seeing an article in a magazine a long time ago about this coaster. Right around the time we were visiting Disney when they had Alien Encounter running during that period. Wild that it's still operating to this day.
Flight of Fear is my husband and daughters favorite coaster in the park. During winterfest 2018 I believe it was, they rode 15 times straight with several solo rides and a couple lights on rides.
Great episode, catching up on all of these now. I love Flight of Fear, little snug but a fun ride. I think they need to bring the laser back, im too young to remember that. When it comes to theming i love the theming and the sound track of FoF and Area 72.
Do yall know if theres any chance of flight of fear running at least 3 trains in the future? Flight of Fear is a amazing ride but its capacity is terrible with how its currently ran
13:40 I don't know about Racer, but when Rebel Yell ended backwards operation it was horribly rough and borderline dangerous even forward (my continuing hip pain began then). After another year they began retracking. The PTC story is awfully convenient. Of course FoF is also pretty rough laterally. I found a Square-D ad about the giant power conditioner they built to stop dimming the lights everywhere. Also heard they got KD FoF working first and then the team went to KI. 25:28 I noticed the train nose is still visible, is there some difference of layout at KD where that never happens?
Was a dream of mine to ride in the 90s . Eventually did around 2013. The mid course was disappointing but the theming and launch were still so intimidating. Batman and robin the chiller was incredible too. I prefer the power of LIMs to LSMs
Ryan your right about Invertigo train. 2019 was when we got the Stinger Train. This year they are using the blue train which is the original train. Last year was the green train or the stinger train.
Im a fan of FOF mostly. Some cars are very rumbly now due to age I think.. I'm glad I don't know the OTSR days. Pitch black FOF as an avid rider is my favorite.. and when Paul B was soup in the area there was a short stint that the ride returned to NOT stopping partway through... so I at least have memories of a proper FOF ride (for my tastes) Unfortunately Im sure its better wear and tear for wheels to slow down there & also.. Ive heard many guests mention that stop and tilt in the middle to be a highlight of the ride 😂 and unintended special element of the ride. After realizing I fit in Mr.Freeze @ St. louis seats better.. I figured premier might have slightly altered the seat design after fof. And side question.. didn't fof also used to have 1 extra car on the train? But i remember 3 train operation as a kid
I was 15 when FOF opened and my girlfriend and I waited 3 hours to ride it. My girlfriend got asked to take out her hoop earrings and I am glad they did! Her ears were beat red from getting her head beat around on the restraints.
fof seems to be short on legroom IMO. my understanding is front seats have less legroom. also i prefer the new restrains over the old shoulder restraints.
Im about 6'3 320 lbs fluctuate to 330. Rode it in June 2023, tried to ride it in July. Had to get off. Tried again the other day and had to get off. Would rather have the OTSRs like Vortex. Or Invertigo.
I rode FoF when it first opened in 1996. Back then the track illumination was at a bare minimum which made it such a unique and thrilling experience. Easily one of the best in the country. Unfortunately, during my last two rides they had the whole building lit up, even all the way to the floor completely ruining the experience. Add to that the midcourse breaking and I'll never want to spend my precious in-park hours in the queue for this ride again. There are too many better rides with shorter waits for FoF to worth my time anymore. ☹
I've ridden the KD version many times. Rode this version during the spring convention. Painful on the shoulders, not the head banging. Constantly throwing my shoulders violently into the seat. I won't ever ride this again. My riding partner agreed. Both of us can take some roughness, but not this.
I enjoy Flight of Fear. I do think the capacity is bad and the trains are rather uncomfortable for my legs as im 6 foot. Thankfully the theming keeps your attention throughout the wait
As a kid I loved when Adventure Express would stop on that final lift with the drums and Bubba.
21:30 I worked invertigo briefly in 2019, we had the stinger train by 2019, if not 2018.

by far my favorite ride!
The theming is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The ride itself is alright

Indeed it is

Pro flight of fear!
Ryan I recognised you a couple weeks ago.

Should be easy to get the power requirements. Do we have the ride vehicle weight, top speed, acceleration to start ?

I for sure recognized you ryan!! ( it's megan bettle btw)
When it opened didn't it launch much faster as well?
It was always a 54 mph launch in 4 seconds
Like it but maybe get better restraints

The audio sync is tough...
The OTSRs were horrendous. Constant bashing of my ears. The new restraints added in the early 2000’s made the ride much more enjoyable.
I disagree. The Restraints before let me ride. These new ones won't let me fit because I am too tall.
LOVE this ride and the cheesy, dated X-Files wannabe pre-show....it screams 1996...
Truly one of the best coasters in the park and defiantly way better than Orion as well.
I hate the newer restraint system because that strap isn't long enough which ended my riding.
