I heard in an interview that the black album is the next to be released, but Rivers also said that he has about 50 songs already written to be on the album and that the "White Album" was a happy, summer, lighter themed album that the "Black Album" would be a darker, more heavy themed album.
Thanks for putting this together. I remember reading about the old abandoned Black album and I never pieced together the demos to match the proposed tracklist, so it's cool that someone else did it. I could write essays about how reactionary Cuomo is, and listening to this, it seems like he was trying to add sort of a 'hard rockers edge' to his Green-era pop sensibility. I can see how this approach eventually warped into Maladroit. Interesting stuff.
+DaveTheUseless Yeah, oddly enough, I seem to be the first person to put this together (at least, who shared their version). This album seems to be totally forgotten. :-(
+Alexander Huamani rivers said in an interview that unless white album experience amazing success then there is a very good chance that we will see a 'black' album next year, it will be a much darker sort of album. I imagine somewhat similar to this!
+I Aint Obeezy He's said so in interviews that they'll only do it if White isn't super successful... and it is. So, unfortunately I doubt they'll do it. I hope they do though. Actually, I really want to see something like a Maladroit 2.0. Love that album and kind of wish they did something with that sound again.
0:00 / 0:40 1. My Weakness (Aka Seafaring Jamb) 2:48 2. Change The World 4:45 3. The Dawn 7:02 4. Ain’t Got Much Time (Aka Get Me On The Line) 8:42 5. We Go Together 10:50 6. I like "My Weakness" better as "Seafarring Jamb" and I love the live version of "We Go Together" so much more. The live version of that track is a flawless Weezer song. Tbh, most of the songs on here are lackluster compared to what Weezer did with Maladroit.
Wtf man this is waayyy better than Green! Green is fine and all, but this would've been even better. Maybe if this came out instead of green they would've tried to keep their sound throughout the 2000s
The new black album was originally going to be a darker more moodier follow up to 2016's White album. However, alongside these new darker songs Rivers continued to also write upbeat songs which is when the band decided to shift directions by putting the black album on hold and instead releasing the album Pacific Daydream as the follow up to White. Supposedly the Black album is what we can probably expect next from the band? However don't get too excited just yet. River's has been quoted in several recent interviews stating that this new black album will feature mostly dark synth based songs because as he stated something to the effect that there is only so many things you can do with distorted power chord rock and it was time for a change. But who knows Rivers writes so much by the time they decide to record the black album he might have another bunch of songs to consider??? My guess is the Black album is mostly written so perhaps prior to their big 2018 co-headlining summer tour with The Pixies perhaps they will have already recorded the Black album for a release sometime late in 2018? Because pacific Daydream like White does have a summer vibe to it I just don't see a dark album being released prior to the 2018 summer tour but after it perhaps?
+madrubicon True - more finished versions exist for most if not all songs, but I was showing how they would've sounded when this album was compiled. The Black Album was compiled December 3, 2001 (or something like that, late 2001) so I chose recordings as close to that date as possible.
These are the Maladroit and album 5 demos mixed together, we go together was being played in late 02, didn't get a demo till the 2003 album 5 recording sessions.
we go together - I've heard a bunch of these songs during their making and posting - many of them are just not that strong - but could be mined for song ideas. Too bad this era many of the songs are easily lumped together because they have such similarities.
I remember all of these songs when maladroit was being made....and It’s still my least favorite album along with the hundreds of tracks I saved from the site at the time. Not sure why, it seemed cool that they were doing that at the time, but then I just started to really not like the songs. Anyway, glad that the upcoming Black Album does not have this track list...cool video tho, brought me back!
Hey man do you still have this available for download somewhere? I used to have it from way back when but seem to have lost some stuff in a recent transfer...
man Weezer released albums with the colours of Blue, Green, Red, White and now Black? i wonder which colour will use next, Pink, Yellow, Gray or Orange. Also if Weezer release another compilation album, they could use a rainbow as an album cover
I remember all these songs fondly and I played em so much I now hate em all. I loved the running man, misstep, Queen of earth from a later demo. Where's serendipity?
Holy shit this is great they should have released this instead of Make Believe There self titled albums or Colored albums are always great, well meh on Red album
Funny you mention that.... look up 'Album 5'. They recorded a mountain of old-school-Weezer-style material for an album to follow Maladroit (which never got past the 'Album 5' nickname), but scrapped it in favor of "Make Believe." Shame, really....
These were indeed referred to in the studio as "The Black Album" - in fact, a more complete version of "The Black Album" existed with different versions of the songs, but we've never heard it.
This is just god awful. These aren't even the best cuts from the maladroit demos. Also, Living Without You had a proper release on the U.K. version of Maladroit. Do You Want me to Stay was also released as Love Explosion.
While you're here.... be kind, gimme a sub over at my current channel! ua-cam.com/users/TheAskTrixieChannel
Welp...the wrong "Black"album won..
true
Technically this won because it became Maladroit
Still come back to this one! Thank you for making this
Thanks for this I have been literally been listening to this every single night bofore I go to bed for the past 4 months.
I heard in an interview that the black album is the next to be released, but Rivers also said that he has about 50 songs already written to be on the album and that the "White Album" was a happy, summer, lighter themed album that the "Black Album" would be a darker, more heavy themed album.
OMG I will JIZZ IN MAH PANTS
BOI WERE U WRONG THE NEW SONG WASNT DEEP AT ALL

+biff listen to the lyrics.
I haven't heard these songs for years thanks !

Nice, sounds great! It's pretty awesome that they're also releasing the black album next year.
+I Aint Obeezy Not this one, though! That'll be something new. :)
Man In Magenta Wig Yes, of course!
+I Aint Obeezy really? how do you know?
+Alexander Huamani rivers said in an interview that unless white album experience amazing success then there is a very good chance that we will see a 'black' album next year, it will be a much darker sort of album. I imagine somewhat similar to this!

This is like a combination of Songs from the black hole an Maladroit... Weird, but I love it!! Thanks for your work and uploading this MIMW!!
No songs from the black hole are on here
It's all maladroit
Love the elongated lyrics for Fall Together. Reminds me of the goat punishment show.
This is awesome!!
These are Green/Maladroit era demos. They are planning on releasing the Black album next but I'm fairly certain it will be yet again all new material
we will have an "old black album" and a "new black album" lol
thanks guy! :)
I like "My Weakness" better as "Seafarring Jamb" and I love the live version of "We Go Together" so much more. The live version of that track is a flawless Weezer song. Tbh, most of the songs on here are lackluster compared to what Weezer did with Maladroit.
I just realized that if this album would’ve been released back then it would be like maladroit.
Underrated. Well in my opinion.
Bruh why the hell did I write this? 😂
Wtf man this is waayyy better than Green! Green is fine and all, but this would've been even better. Maybe if this came out instead of green they would've tried to keep their sound throughout the 2000s
The new black album was originally going to be a darker more moodier follow up to 2016's White album. Mike Thomas then what is this Album called?
Looks like the black album isn't going to be darker or moodier. Time will tell.
I would have used the "Seafaring Jamb" version instead of "My Weakness"... it's got a way more rippin' guitar solo!
+madrubicon True - more finished versions exist for most if not all songs, but I was showing how they would've sounded when this album was compiled. The Black Album was compiled December 3, 2001 (or something like that, late 2001) so I chose recordings as close to that date as possible.
Damn, the Dawn could've been one of their best songs imo. But these are pretty nice songs all around for the most part.
Wow!
These are the Maladroit and album 5 demos mixed together, we go together was being played in late 02, didn't get a demo till the 2003 album 5 recording sessions.
we go together intro sounds a lot like getting up and leaving lol
Thats awesome :D
Most of these songs ended up being more polished on Maladroit and such.
The version of Fall Together is great
🤟🏻
I wonder how you feel now that the black album is being released
beter then the one that just came out
we go together - I've heard a bunch of these songs during their making and posting - many of them are just not that strong - but could be mined for song ideas. Too bad this era many of the songs are easily lumped together because they have such similarities.

are you happy now
Damn thought this was the new one
Hey man do you still have this available for download somewhere? I used to have it from way back when but seem to have lost some stuff in a recent transfer...
They're making a new "black album", you know
man Weezer released albums with the colours of Blue, Green, Red, White and now Black? i wonder which colour will use next, Pink, Yellow, Gray or Orange. Also if Weezer release another compilation album, they could use a rainbow as an album cover
Friends In The Shadow
Rainbow would be amazing
or maybe teal? 😂
I remember all these songs fondly and I played em so much I now hate em all. I loved the running man, misstep, Queen of earth from a later demo. Where's serendipity?
Wasn't on the tracklist! This is the genuine track list of the album.
Where is this version of The Dawn from? I only have one live bootleg apparently from 6th December 2001 and it's not the same one.
I can't recall the exact date, but it's one of the three or four live versions.
Where can I download the songs?

Really they should have thanks for telling me never knew that
Yeah well Troublemaker and Pork and Beans are pretty good.
I actually really liked the red album. I Love how they showed they could do more then just (garage) style rock.
I kinda like Do You Want Me To Stay better than Love Explosion :O)
JUST RELEASE THIS WEEZER !!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
WHAT THE FUCK
Didn't they have "Fall Together" on Maladroit? A re-release you're saying?
+Dani May Yes, they did. Many of these songs were re-recorded for "Maladroit" (albeit mostly unused).
so low......mansion of cardboard
mansion of cardboard for me
Wtf?! Are you talking about the Album 5 demos or SS2k, maybe even Goat Punishment? I never once saw these demos refered to as "The Black Album."
These were indeed referred to in the studio as "The Black Album" - in fact, a more complete version of "The Black Album" existed with different versions of the songs, but we've never heard it.
Way better than anything after Maladroit. They're so commercial now it's fucking pathetic!
Now? No way, you listened to EWBAITE and White Album?
This is just god awful. These aren't even the best cuts from the maladroit demos. Also, Living Without You had a proper release on the U.K. version of Maladroit. Do You Want me to Stay was also released as Love Explosion.
I thought this was good tbh.
