I have absolutely no clue how 10 zealots, 5 archons, 11 stalkers, 5 colossi and 2 sentries lost against 13 marauders, 9 ghosts, 13 medivacs and 46 marines @12:55. It seems like Ryung strategically tanked the 5 colossi with his marauders and 13 medivacs on the right side and pulled his marines back, while Zest's unfortunate blink left with his stalkers had them engaging into pure marines with no colossus support. By any measure that I would have taken this fight as Terran I would have lost conclusively.
Not to play the pro player card…. But if you were given control of Protoss at any point in that game you’d have lost. Plus Terran had a chance to kill Protoss with his cyclones Marines+scv pull at the start…
@@bodgee1094 I'm a 5k mmr terran player in NA, not a pro player as you said. We're just surprised someone with that much more experience and time put into the game is able to throw a won game. It happens to the best of us, but we've been seeing it occur more commonly for Zest than others.
Yep, After his cheese he had a slight advantage and was able to maintain and expand his lead slightly through a larger economy. However, he treated it like he had this overwhelming lead and played it out a bit like as if he was zerg faceplanting gate units when he should have been using his economic advantage for a greater tech and higher tier unit advantage. If his first big push on max was delayed by about a minute, trading out some of the stalkers for a few more colossus, rush zealots, and a few phoenixes (mostly to remove the medivacs) with a tech upgrade he'd have crippled Ryung's army to the point a quick warp gate rush zealot on the follow up probably wins the game flat out. As the Protos upgrades are your bread and butter and of all the races and economic advantage is the weakest for the protoss as both Z and T can negate an economic advantage against protoss fairly quickly.
@@vampuricknight1 Exactly my thoughts, he kinda played it like he was a zerg, swarming the terran player with his overwhelming amount of resources converged into units until the terran is out of steam. If he was a bit more cautious, and just contained ryung, until building up a death ball, he could have win.
@@SC2HL Nah the cannons were costly and terran catches up fast with mules cannon rush is the most basic level of cheese I aint impressed. Zest is all macro and not enough micro. Archons vs emp... really?
Or just that TvP late game becomes unwinnable for protoss past a certain point because EMP removes like 50% of the protoss's army while also making psystorm useless and protoss late units are bad nowadays.

EMPs are OP! I can't believe that we had this game for 10 years, and we still have a spell that can erase a 100 shield with one click over a radius. One Ghost can have the damage output of 16 L1 Marines assuming they both attack one target. Given that the EMP Radium can have easily 5 Toss Units. That means a single freaking EMP can have equal the damage of 80 L1 Marines against Toss units that have more than 100 Shield! Insane!
Ghost having EMP has literally been a thing since the original, and while it was good it was never some ZOMG OP nerf plox thing. Then again the original SC didn't have a select all army button for you to try and deathball with so armies tended to spread out a lot more naturally meaning AoE could be more easily mitigated. Got knocked out of the group stages. herO is supposed to be the next Protoss torchbearer, but if someone aggros him first, he crumbles. Zoun is the Protoss who got far in IEM Katowice 2022, and what did he do this GSL? Played dumb and got knocked out in the groups like Zest. Creator is improving, but still so far away from the top. For Terrans, there's Maru. You see the BS Maru is doing in GSL right now? Just throwing games that people start to suspect he's either wasted or intentionally losing. Reynor practices vs 5 GMs in Archon mode. Serral is even above that, just playing with all Koreans of all races like they are babies in the last IEM Katowice. If Serral and Reynor transfer races, then that race will be the top. Simple as that. Reynor and Clem switched races before and Reynor's Terran trashed Clem's Zerg. It's the players not the race.
This really demonstrates how frustrating it is for terran to play TvP. The toss cannon rushed, the terran held it as best as he possibly could, but even so the terran is unable to go punish the toss afterwards because he can just instantly transition into mass gateway units and then expand to FIVE BASES while the terran has to struggle to even get to 3 bases. Such good balance.
Wow, I honestly thought Zest had it when his mineral/gas bank was WAAAAAY higher than Ryung's. He got too reckless with the trades. The barrack and command center placements by Ryung were also genius plays. it made it so hard for the 'toss ball to roll out.
I havent played in a long time and for many moons this was always cheese and to see it live in action and to have people tell me its a solid starter even after the new rush melee units and the air you can use for harras this is so funny
For the longest time I kept hearing people cry a3bout protoss ball and thinking why would you not use ghosts in your composition. And people looked at me like I am the crazy one.
Feel like Zest just kinda forgot disruptors exist halfway through the game, or maybe was just hoping to get away with not using them, but either way he was winning fights until he just stopped making balls.
@@lynk_1240 Disrupters are a 90% useless unit at high level play other than for zoning. They just occasionally get massive hits, but are very rare at high level play. Honestly should be replaced with something else imho.
He could do a lot. 1. Not lose the complexity in his army. 2. Not take disastrous fights. 3. Actually leverage his economic advantage by adding a crapton of gates and using it to overwhelm Ryung. 4. Just trade equally until Ryung is dry. Don't let him expand easily. 5. Disruptors + HT.
The broken power of emp + stimmed bio. Just love how they say Protoss is the broken race. 7 Protoss bases vs 3 terran bases and terran still wins. Even though Protoss had all the tech, you just can't stand up to that power as toss.
I mean Zest did throw away a lot of stuff unnecessarily multiple times just trying to end it. But with that said, I agree.... Like the fact that you can literally just evaporate 1200 gas worth of archons in a couple emps is just stupid. That combined with stim gives terran massive power spikes for 11 seconds at a time while toss losses nearly half their hitpoints and takes at least 60 seconds to recover all their lost shields. It allows for huge swings even if terran is way behind if Toss makes even a small mistake.
You can, just need to know how to counter. Templar feedback the ghosts and/or use less shield dependent units like mass zealot, land disruptor shots, etc. I’m sure Zest knows that but he was just being lazy and tried to end it. but man what a hold by Terran here, never seen anything like it
@@frumpledpigskin I would recommend trying to feedback 5-8 ghosts before one of the 5-8 send of at least 1-3 emps blanketing your army while simultaneously sending off disruptors. Even for pros that's fricken hard. Besides, most pros have high templars in warp prism to avoid emps which is even more micro intensive. Not saying it can't be done, but it's drastically harder to to pull off than sending out an emp.
I don’t get what’s so “genius” about this rush. Every Protoss cannon rushes and the most efficient way to do it now is to put your pylon and cannons in the enemy natural on the low ground and have an extra probe on high ground for vision and to eventually place a pylon. Even if it doesn’t win you the game, so long as you continue to build up at home and don’t overextend placing extra unnecessary structures you can still win having your opponent on the defense at least mentally. However at pro league levels, cannon rushes aren’t as effective since players know how expensive it is mineral wise, those cannons cost 150 each and one pylon plus two cannons is the same cost as a nexus. If you are building cannons you are most likely not building probes or units.
you answered your question. this is GSL level. cannon rush is done at bronze level, every single one of these pros know how to beat a cannon rush, so making a cannon rush work in the top level is amazing in terms of timing and mind games. this game showed a failed cannon rush though, so SC2HL's title must be just to bait views but no, it's not a genius cannon rush. Zest overproduced cannons and failed to kill Ryung outright. His recovery was impressive though: he took high risk by mass expanding and it paid off, too bad he was probably tilted and lost every single engagement he should have won.
@@shapowlow The video didn't show a failed cannon rush. The Protoss was wildly ahead after the early game. If a strategy places you in a very favoured position to win, it doesn't matter that it doesn't kill outright. The strategy was succesful. We're definitely agreed on him throwing most engagements later in the game though. As much as Ryung played amazingly, that was definitely Zests game to lose.
@@jeroenstolp9889 actually i think it's more of ryung failing to punish Zest on a massively whiffed cannon rush. I think if he moved out with his cyclone instead of removing all cannons, he would have made it in time to catch Zest off guard, but this is just a speculation from a low master player haha. These guys are effing GSL players so I guess you're right. He probably pushed way far ahead because of the cannon rush.
@@shapowlow I think this is more a matter of perspective. The way I see it, IF Ryung did punish the mistakes in the cannon rush, it would have been a failed rush. Since the mistakes were not punished, it didn't fail, and the rush placed him solidly ahead. You're honestly probably right on the cyclone call, but as another low master player here, I am not going to pretend like I would've played perfectly in that scenario.
NERF ... GHOSTS!!! This SHOULDN'T have gone the way that it did. Ya got ONE unit that counters EVERYTHING that protoss puts out with a blanket of 100% shield dmg which also kills psy storm... Just, no. Stop. Take the power you've given the ghosts and put it into terran's other units. Watching terran ghost play is almost always either boring or frustrating to watch.
Well what unit do you reckon can be the backbone of a Terran army in a TvP and fill shoes of ghosts? The core of a Protoss army lies in it’s splash damage where even if HT’s become obsolete do to EMP’s there are are still 2 other forms of AOE the Terrans still have to work around with from dodging disruptor shots to dealing with colossus’s with over committing against them so your core army still has enough fire power. Zest threw this game by just continuing to produce Carriers which were mostly ineffective, where he could have won by simply if he used those resources on a couple more colossus’s.
@@bayasgalantsogtgerel3346 P need a unit that can actually win battles consistently instead of contextual bullshit units. We all know if T or Z was in the same economic position P is just dead. Even with face roll micro. Imagine if storm did all 80 damage instantly to Bio, that is ghosts to P gateway, T doesn't even need AOE to annihilate a Protoss ball in reality. In fact EMP used to do 100% shield damage with a 2.5 radius in WOL, the best T players still didn't make Ghosts every game. Now that they are forced to think about it we can see how insanely strong nullifying P units only advantage, shield HP actually is.
@@chinogambino9375 The reason why Ghost’s weren’t used much in the pro scene in WOL was mostly due to the fact Terrans didn’t have to rely on it to win late game against Protoss and there wasn’t really that much need to tech into a gas heavy unit when the games were low eco. Terran is literally the best and most cost efficient race when it comes to defending positions, and even if I was economically in Zest’s position as a Zerg(I play zerg), if I made multiple poor engagements along with a army comp that literally was being already countered by the Terran, after 3 waves of course they Terran will stabilize and be on even footing. In TvT the defending player always has the advantage thus the same could be said about the same scenario in a TvT. In all 3 matchups you have to have had better engagements and more suitable army comp to deal with the turtling Terran. If Ghost’s are to be nerfed(I have no qualms about it, as it benefits Z’s and P’s) Terran need another alternative to beat Z’s and P’s in late game and they have no other unit that can directly fill the role of ghost’s unless the unit gets completely reworked.
@@bayasgalantsogtgerel3346 If you cut the balls off both snipe for zerg and emp for protoss, and traded them to buff literally every unit terran has with 1 to 2 dmg, it'd still be a thousand times more fun to watch terran match-ups, and honest to god, even with EVERY OTHER UNIT BUFFED, it'd still probably be easier to take down than 20 fucking ghosts. Ghosts are NOT a backbone for the terran, they are a >>>CRUTCH

Even pros throw games with mass archons warp ins to fight a good chunk of ghosts.
Wow what a comeback
The second I would have seen a turret at my base I would've quit. I can't handle any rush.
I gotta be eating something while watching your uploads.
WoW won't even compare this to Maru. Officially The Ryung comeback. Insane gamer.
Massing archons vs ghosts, pro gamer move
really gg! and top commentary too.
nice counterattack
I think he should be power building more cannons but XD you know 3:50
Nice video !
"He is starting to believe"
Wow. Just wow. Terran Terran Terran... Ole Ole Ole Ole....
I don't remember seeing Feedback used in this game. There were sooo many Medivacs
Wow - crazy game!
Wow, I honestly thought Zest had it when his mineral/gas bank was WAAAAAY higher than Ryung's. He got too reckless with the trades. The barrack and command center placements by Ryung were also genius plays. it made it so hard for the 'toss ball to roll out.
Ryung doesnt need to dodge the bullets, he can see the matrix
I havent played in a long time and for many moons this was always cheese and to see it live in action and to have people tell me its a solid starter even after the new rush melee units and the air you can use for harras this is so funny
It's easy to be good when EMPs are REALLY OP!
git gud
That was insane!
thermal lance if you're going to float minerals and get that many giraffes
For the longest time I kept hearing people cry a3bout protoss ball and thinking why would you not use ghosts in your composition. And people looked at me like I am the crazy one.
Feel like Zest just kinda forgot disruptors exist halfway through the game, or maybe was just hoping to get away with not using them, but either way he was winning fights until he just stopped making balls.
That was a damn good game!
People are saying Zest threw. What exactly should he have done? Take more than 6 bases vs Terran's 3?
Take better engagements I guess?
Good Disruptor usage.
Out of all the pro players I think Zest is the most creative, in both winning and throwing his game.
What an insane game!!
Welcome back!
Definitely a highlight. Pity it didn't pay off tho.
not every day a Protoss try to do a Cannon Rush against a Terran in a professional game.
Ryung is so good
Did I just see a comeback of bio vs T3 protoss, 1 mining base vs 5 mining bases??
It’s just a title to get more views is all. Great video though
you answered your question. this is GSL level. cannon rush is done at bronze level, every single one of these pros know how to beat a cannon rush, so making a cannon rush work in the top level is amazing in terms of timing and mind games.
this game showed a failed cannon rush though, so SC2HL's title must be just to bait views but no, it's not a genius cannon rush.
This is why you don't make carriers kids. So much income yet he stopped making disruptors. Terran just dived bombed into him every time.
A Tasteless hold my beer moment.

Not to mention ghost counters every single zerg unit due to snipe.
WTF. how did zest throw that hard man? great game from Ryung but god damn
Fantastic match.
