BMW E46 325i Refreshed Shifter and Short Shift Kit Demonstration

- A quick video to show the end result of a shifter refresh and modification, as a reference point for anyone considering the same.
Sorry about no "before" video. Throw was about twice as far with about 1.5" of play in each gear.
Replaced:
* Shifter cup (BMW) 25-11-1-220-600
* E60 shifter (BMW) 25-11-7-546-373 - no shims required
* Teflon Shifter Bushing Kit (ECS) 2511-001*
* Polyurethane Shifter Arm Bushing (Turner) 021012TMS02
Parts also shown in video:
* Custom shifter bezel with epoxy coat, paint, tape details, clear coat by yours truly.
* Custom leather shift boot (eBay) modified and installed by yours truly. Some assembly required.
* OEM ZHP-style shifter with a 5-speed pattern. Part number 25117896031. Shifter is modified with the lower aluminum/chrome trim blacked out and clear coated, again, by yours truly.
Note, there was a little play in how the teflon shifter bushing kit fit into the shifter arm, which could have contributed to a little slop. I applied a precise bead of Dow Corning 795 (RTV silicone would also work) to each half of the teflon bushing and clamped it in place on the shift arm overnight while it cured. This eliminated the slack.
Also, there was some side to side play in the same joint (teflon bushing is narrower than the slot on the transmission where it mounts). I added a standard BMW shift linkage shim - part # 25111220439 - to one side of the bushing to tighten it up and prevent any side-to-side play. In retrospect, it would be better to use a metal washer of appropriate thickness here, for durability's sake, but I'm certain the shim will be adequate for several years.
Nice demonstration, looks good. Did you have to bend the E60 Shifter to fit the E46? Never seen the E60 shifter in the E46, only the E85 one, wich needs bending to properly fit. Thx!
No bending, direct fit, at least for my 5-speed. I did have the exhaust system out and fully dropped the linkage to put the new bushings in, not sure what the install would have been like from the top, but I don't think I'd have been able to do it completely.
325i with the Getrag 5 speed, right?
