Thank you for the information, watching your game play has reawakened my desire to play these games (Robotron/Defender/Stargate). Playing on a fight stick - that is amazing in and of itself!
Watching you play Paul, I play with a similar style, just slower and not as good! Nice to know I'm doing something right and that I'm using the same roms as you as well.
No. Its level 10 difficulty and it is a blue ROM, but its the "bugfixed" Sean Riddle ROM given to me by Mark Hoff. I find the non bugfixed game to be a pain, as i rarely get over 5-6 million before the law of probability causes the game to crash due to the corner bug. Hope this helps!
What is your controller like? I made my own controller with Happ Supers but they are so loose I can't get over 1M. Glad to know there are others in the world that LOVE these old Williams Games :)
Oh aye - I remember you playin it. I rarely play Roc n rope as i cant get past the 4th board and it pisses me off! Watching UA-cam vids and chatting online with retrogamers I have come to realise that im not as good a gameplayer as i thought. I am very good at 3 games and below average on everything else. The amount of people who can get to the end "kill" screen on donkey kong and pacman amazes me.
Ive uploaded some Defender and stargate also on youtube, using same controller. Also if you go onto CAGDC website and put in "Stargate max" in the search box in the top right it shows what my controller is if you click on the associated page. Ive been using this controller for over 15 years, which is longer than i played the original machines in the 1980s arcades. I probably would suck now on an original cab. Played a proper Defender 3 months ago for the first time in 18 years : Weird?
Check out Mark Hoffs Excellent website . Google robotron2084guidebook for loads of fascinating stuff about Robotron and defender. Interviews with Eugene jarvis the games creator from june celebrating 30th anniversary of robotron. also check facebook page "williams defender players unite"as Larry DeMar (eugenes co-developer) is on it among many other defender legends from australia, sweden, uk and usa. Believe it or not i use a playstation fight stick:1 lever and 4 buttons to play williams games
