    Your teaching is superb! So far I have used Google translator and tried to recognize my speech, but your recommendation (both app and examples to repeat) is showing me clearly where I have to improve ❤

    I think a good test for any language is seeing if speech recognition can understand you reliably. Speech to text understands my chinese easily and usually correctly. With some practice, you will also speak correctly, just keep practicing.

    What a wonderful video! Thank you very much! My tones are instantly better because of this and I’ll be following your other videos.
    - one small comment about English pronunciation, I’ve noticed this on quite a few Mandarin channels: in English, the word “pronunciation” is pronounced “pro-NUN-see-AY-shun” and should not be pronounced “pro-NOUN-see-AY-shun”

      Thank you so much! You’re also my teacher now! I’ll work hard to correct this pronunciation. 😊

      Eliminate the high flat tone and replace it with a "low tone" then you will have
      learned the tones used in the Thai language. They are very similar.

    Thanks. Clear examples and explanation. However I’m still confused about pairs of third tones such as in final example - Wo mai pi jiu gei ni. I thought this rule only or mainly applied to two character words. Does it always apply to two individual third tone single character words next to each other ?

    • @LalaChinese
      @LalaChinese  10 днів тому +1

      Good question! I plan to explain this in more detail in a future video. But in general, the tone change of the third tone depends on its relationship with the word it’s next to. For example, if you go to a friend’s house for dinner and after the meal your friend says, '我洗碗' (I'll wash the dishes.), the tones are 'low tone + rising tone + low tone.' But if you reply, '不不,我洗' (No, no, let me wash.), the tones of "我洗“change to 'rising tone + low tone.' So, it’s not just about two-character words; the tone change depends on the context.

    Wow this helped.
    But the whole time I thought all third tones aside from the last one become become a 2nd tone. Like in 你洗碗 I would pronounce the 你 as the 2nd tone.

    • @LalaChinese
      @LalaChinese  Місяць тому +2

      I’ve actually forgotten the name of the app I used in the video😂, and I wouldn’t recommend it-it’s not free and is designed for practicing singing. I’d suggest using the website I mentioned in the video instead: www.speechandhearing.net/laboratory/ampitch/

      @LalaChinese A solid recommendation. I've been using it for some time, and it's a solid tool. If you try it, you may need to experiment with different browsers to get good performance. Edge used to be as good as Firefox, but they had an update which tremendously impacted performance.

    One thing I've always wondered about is, what happens when more that two third tone syllables come one after another. Which ones are pronounced as second tons?
    Ex: 我很好想给你买奶草。

    • @LalaChinese
      @LalaChinese  22 дні тому +1

      The changes of third tones depends on which syllables are more closely connected. For example, in "我很好," the words "很好" are more tightly connected. I’m not sure what "奶草" refers to, but the sentence could be paused like this: 我 很好,想 给你 买 牛奶.
