The Clone Trooper Experiment | Identical DNA... Different Outcomes

  • The Grand Army of the Republic is made out of identical clones who more or less were raised in the same environment. Up until the moment they deploy, the clones are pretty similar in appearance and even personality. But the second they hit the field, the clones begin to change. They become more individualistic, they start to wear their hair differently, get facial tattoos. They way they act and think begins to diverge as well thanks to their experiences. Given their similar baseline DNA the clones present an opportunity to teach us what makes each human unique and how our environments change us.

Ironic how the clones turned out to be more human than the stormtroopers

    • @klaykid117

The clones were standardized units allowed to grow with as individuals The Stormtroopers were individuals turned into standardized units
In this context, it actually makes a lot of sense why palpatine came to prefer ordinary humans over a clone army, he can exploit the psychological weaknesses of the average person. Their greed, their desired for power and of course, individual personality issues that might arise. As the clones all viewed themselves as brothers, which I imagine would have actually deeply troubled Navy men like tarkin who had that very old world nobility idea of being a navel leader even clone captains/commanders saw even the loliest trooper as their brother

The clones were "templates" that developed individuality.
The stormtroopers were individuals forced into a "standart template".

This is why they should have given Daniel Logan another chance at Boba, he’s a lot closer to the right age during the Mandalorian timeline. And that way Temuera could have still played the older clones like Rex and Wolffe.

There are a few on going studies of twins separated at birth and raised separately. They are very interesting. Most of the time the twins end up in the same job, like the same foods and marry almost identical partners.

What was great about the Clone Wars was they often brought into the plot the ethics. The first thing that they had to deal with was each clones individuality. They allowed themselves to chose names. Then they were allowed to customize the look of their uniforms. There were arguments in the Senate about clone rights. Then there was the Bad Batch. I once was told by a scientist that we know what clones will be like because we have identical twins living among us. After a little while we find it easy to tell the difference between Drew and Jonathan Scott, "The Property Brothers," when at first it is hard to tell them apart. I have cousins who are identical twins, and my aunt told me how to tell them apart. Once I knew how, it was easy to see how they were different as individuals, yet very much alike as twins in a special way. The the Star Wars universe explored this as part of their plot lines was very interesting and instructive.

The real accomplishment of George Lucas is the creation of the very rich Star Wars universe. There are so many aspects no yet explored. The clones is one that deserves more attention. Disney series (Bad Batch) is a welcome start.

Another element of twins is there are some sets of twins who embrace their sameness and are all interested in the same stuff, end up in the same careers etc. then others who specifically want to be different from their twin, just for the sake of being different.

You know, I wonder how or what would have happened if Luke *Skywalker* had been able to submit his application to the Imperial Academy. Luke, himself, had no reason to believe that giving his name out for any official reason was an inadvisable idea (at best). Maybe that was part of the reason Uncle Owen kept stalling Luke from applying. And then, of course, if Owen Lars was so concerned about Luke being like his father, why would he and Beru not change Luke's name, (at least his last name?) They could have called Luke, "Luke Lars." 🤔

It's an HR nightmare due to the staff turnover with the Death Star main cannon fire control unit. On a serious note, there are real world cultures/sub-cultures that believe groups that were considered lesser would be sacrificed to defend the "entitled" group. It's not farfetched to have a fictitious Star Wars army of clones that are considered to be expendable. It's a reflection.

Sorry that I keep asking this, but where is this clip from? I know that Arc of the Clone Wars had a movie, but I don't remember this sequence. Off the top of my head, I can remember them getting the idea, letting the droids walk around them, then start walking to bump into a Droideka. Nothing about dodging tanks.
Maybe it was a deleted scene, wasn't in my copy of the movie, or I am misremembering something I haven't seen in years.

I’ve often wondered if an orbital Olympic training facility (for perhaps wrestling, martial arts, boxing, certain gymnastics) could be engineered to be something like the hyperbolic time chamber: where air pressure, temperature, gravity, humidity, diet, sleep/rest cycles, could all be controlled to create super athletes who would then come back to earth after 9 months or whatever and be tested as far as what types of physiological changes may be present by competing against other athletes in their respective peer groups, sports, and events, in conformity with international Olympic committee rules and bylaws.
Just to see what the outcomes would be, like test their genes before, during, and after, and everything about their diet and exercise routines.

Biotechnology, just like medical aplications of drugs and nuclear fission power, suffers from public opinion more than any practical reason, I mean, really, just make it that if something is sentient and self-aware it qualify to human rights, you can always made non-sentient versions at some point, and you can experiment on those all you like, sure, you canot carry out everything, especially experimentation requiring subject to be sentient, but most other aspects are doable, as unnerving as it would be, there technically would be no more moral issues with it than experimenting on a rabbit.
