I'm just amazed the way you figure this stuff up

Very helpful video, Javi. I'll definitely try the things you taught in it.
Remember, everyone to check out references. Javi did mention this in the video and I'm glad he did. :)
Copy the picture at first (to understand how to make it physically make sense), but mainly use them as a springboard onto better-looking drawings. Getting the structure down first is very important. The fundamentals are there to help you get on your feet and then you can start to really experiment. Remember, most of all, to have fun with it. Try a more serious one to get the structure, then try a crazier one to have some fun with the concept. Hope this helps! ^-^ Thanks again for making the video, Javi.

ALL OF THIS!!! the video is a quick guide on how to "fit" a hat on a character, but really, there are so many hat designs that it would be impossible to have fun with hats without using reference :D

I never really had a hard time on hats, but I guess that's because I was always practicing general form. this a very helpful tutorials, though, I never really realized that the back of the hat sits that low on the head.
Hey, umm.. what are your thoughts on digital painting? I don't have Photoshop yet, I have Sai. have you ever used that? I'm specifically struggling with the hue and saturation of colors, I'm fine on values.

Sorry for not answering!!! I love digital painting. I love being able to make mistakes and to go back. I put a lot of pressure on myself when using traditional mediums, that's why I love digital. I barely used Sai so I don't know much about it. is it good?

It's... Alright when it comes to mixing. It's brushes have a hard time making solid, hard edges strokes, though. Even with pen pressure you don't have much control. And it's brushes are always doing weird inexplicable things. Because I'm stuck with a Vista laptop for now, I can't get Krita either, so I guess I gotta wait till I upgrade my stuff.
And I hear you there, I love painting too! I'm alergic to oil paints, so digital is for me. I'd like to learn how to do those really cool environments and landscape paintings that they do in concept art, since I want to go into that field.

If you search in youtube there are a lot of amazing tutorials for concept landscape. I'd start with this: ua-cam.com/video/NygkJEc3yu4/v-deo.html I love this videos. The guy has a lot of attitude but well.. he's right!

Actually Javi, I do agree with U that learning other programs after using a certain one for a long time, can be a pain-in-the-butt; however Sketchbook Pro 8's interface & learning curve is a lot easier to adopt than Photoshop. And its specifically created for sketching; and works a lot better for digital teaching than Photoshop. You can even make the palettes disappear & reappear with just by hitting "Tab" keyboard key. You should try out the Sketchbook Pro 8 program (plus, its very inexpensive to buy too).
...Sketchbook Pro is the only program I actually use to teach; even when I do live-streams. Just a suggestion, Javi....the program is worth trying out. Hey are you going to be doing any tutorials on dynamic torsos drawing? Like torsos in dynamic poses, foreshortening torsos....etc.

Well, you convinced me! I'll give sketchbook another try!!! Regarding torsos, I have a torso video but it doens't include motion or crazy angles. Maybe I should do one, it is something that I find hard as well :D

Glad to hear you're going to give Sketchbook Pro 8 a try, Javi.... Make sure you do an update when you 1st open it...and you'll have to get the yearly subscription $29.99 to get all the pro features. Let me know how you fair with it. I look forward to seeing one of your cool tutorials using the program, too. If U have any questions about the program, shoot me an email & I'll try my best to answer them.

Javi - Do you ever work in Sketchbook Pro? (It's a much better program for teaching and for sketching than Photoshop).

Yeah what bothers me the most about photoshop is that it's not good for a video like this because all the buttons and menus just get in the way. But I've been using it 8 hours every day for the last 7 years and I just use it instinctively, switching to something else it's a bit of a pain in the ass. I even bought PaintStorm and I haven't even tried it yet!
