Honestly personally for me, this sounds way more simple than any other I’ve heard. Tysm this is so helpful it deserves more views!! You earned a new sub btw!
Thanks men, means a lot
This was my exact thought at the end of the video. Also extremely condensed. Thanks for the video
But my job is in the summer bro- why you firin' meee....?! 😭🤧
My art style is random
Not really, just draw a bunch.
I just started mimicking styles and grew into my own from the styles I mimicked. I also learned stuff about anatomy via mimicking
that is great. Congrats.
Same! It’s like my art style is made up of all my fav artist art styles! With a bit of my own touch to it!
@@palabalaba419 the advice from the vid does go with a lesson from silent manga audition. Which is the same from this vid
Yeah it's what some call "steal like an artist" (i forgot the origin). it's annoying how some non-artists just call it stealing or tracing, like bro no 💀. also funny story i mimic so much my art style is non existent, it's a cycle of every time i think i found it, i see cool art and boom back to ✨experimenting✨
I started out tracing then tracing different characters part on to other characters. After a while I started drawing on my own then I started developing a style🔥.
I used to be obsessed with finding my art style, but in my opinion, you shouldn't rush it. Once I stopped obsessing over finding an art style, I felt more free to just draw what I want. It kinda just comes naturally and your style changes over time, and that's fine. I actually subconsciously kinda mimick certain traits of my favorite artists' art style. (Feel free to fo whatever you want, this is just from my personal experience)
That is a great advice, thank you for sharing
honestly yea! Art style is influenced strongly by taste, just like the video said, so I think "feeling free to draw what you want" is kind of the key to honing your style. It's gonna blossom when you let yourself do what feels good. Lean into the styles that inspire you and go for any ideas that just seem like they could be fun to try or potentially visually interesting.
Exactly. And sometimes style changes and grows as we change and grow and that's ok
This is exactly what happened for me. I was trying to force a super whimsically realistic kind of style but hating everything I made. Only recently started just relaxing and my own style is starting to show up bit by bit
I do the same thing! Mainly cause I couldn’t commit to studying a particular style for a month, I just incorporate elements of different styles that I like. (Kinda like a mental Pinterest or something 😅)
Most of the time when I draw without reference I can already see what styles have influenced my own subconsciously
I personally like to relate art styles to hand writing. It’s your own and can be influenced by others, but for the most part it’ll just naturally come to you
Yes that is very nice way of putting it.
i've heard this comparison before and it's been in my head ever since lol
Wat if my handwriting looks like Arabic and is unreadable
@@SL-vd5hy just because your handwriting is bad doesn’t mean your art is bad. Personally, my hand writing is absolute crap.
I agree, another gud point
i just compulsively hoard people’s art on my phone and i have a folder dedicated to styles i like and whatever i make is just an amalgamation of that lol
haha that sounds fun, hope it works for you
LOL same, my file's name is "Draws", and when you open it, then shows a lot of sub-files like "Draw 1", "Draw 2" and etc.
Same, I've got about 500 screenshots of random works for reference and MOTIVATION
Same. I honestly have had to move all the random art I've saved off my phone onto my PC multiple times because at this point I have thousands of pics saved.
Then I discovered AI art generation and that amount has basically tripled.
I have so many inspiration references to work with lol
yeahh ive got over 60,000 photos on my google photos drive lol. compulsive is correct
My favorite way to handle “art style” is what Richard says in his animator’s survival kit book. You don’t find the style, the style finds *you*. I honestly haven’t thought about my style in years, I just find a photo reference and it happens naturally.
I hope magic like that would happen to me too
frfr my style changes with each ref pic i pick
i took his advice and honestly its true! all it takes is patience and experimenting. it might take a month or so but i promise most people would be happier with their artstyle if they just waited. i took the same advice in this video a while ago and it stunted me because i was so focused on getting details right instead of just going where my pencil wanted
That’s very true
Also remember you can have many art styles, don't limit yourself!
so important! I feel like many people are obsessed with finding this one singular art style to be their signature that alone suits them in every way. I too fell prey to this mindset once.
But even once you find one art style that works for you, you may find out you like others too depending on your mood!
That is definitely true for me 😄
Whatever makes people happy creating their art... if that is having an artsyle then cool, and if not then that is also cool
I kinda needed this reassurance.
I was thinking of dropping my anime style completely, but I might evolve it instead, to cover the aspects where my simplified style has limitations.
@@naolucillerandom5280 evolve it for sure! don’t let go of what you enjoy drawing, just take it with you and try different things with it!
having multiple art styles IS your art style. your art style is a concept, not a singular piece that totally defines you.
I tried to do something like this before, but hit a wall when I realized I liked things from different artists that were completely contradictory to each other. Sometimes you just gotta pick random elements, see what you enjoy, and not worry too much if your art style is sometimes incongruous with itself. It's perfectly valid for your art style to be defined by continual experimentation and changing things up!
This! I liked art style Nomura has in his kingdom hearts games. Even him has different styles over the years.
There are times where I draw the hair very pointy and spikey, the eyes similar to tales of characters or shojou manga I read
Yes Artstyles keep changing and developing and as long as you are happy creating art, that is the most important thing
remember: you change over the years
your style will also change
and its not fine, its awesome
Haha great
I keep changing my art style everyday
A tutor of mine at university once put it this way. Look at finding your artstyle as if you were trying to build a car up from parts. Learning from your inspiration is like taking different parts, once they're put together the finished car will be a unique combination to you, your vehicle, your style
Interesting, thank you for sharing
I've been drawing since I was 12 and watching videos about drawing since I was 17. At 28 I've just found the most concise and actionable method on developing your own style within this clip. Phenomenal. Thank you sir.
Happy to hear that
Thank you for talking about tracing when you're learning as an artist. Tracing is something a lot of artists do when they're learning their first steps and it shouldn't be shunned unless they're passing the work as their own. Tracing is useful for artists to work backwards and over time grow confident without it.
You are welcome, happy it helps
I like the Drawfee take that everybody has an art style buried within them that can even be seen in their childhood art. No matter what influenced people pick up, they’ll also have their own little flares.
That is an interesting theory, thank you for sharing
Trying to find my style is so stressful lol. This makes it a little bit easier. Thanks for the tip!
Yes it is really hard to find your style… happy to help
Just try to find a process you enjoy, forcing yourself to "find" or settle on a style is stressful for any creatives. Too restricting.
@@YukyDoodle I was randomly drawing and suddenly found my art style and it's been a year I haven't changed it
Same, I wanna have an art style that is only so people know it's by me, for example like Haminations, his art style when you see it you'd know it's his...unless you never heard of him but ya know what I mean.
My artstyle is rude digital painting with grayscale shapes. I drew lineart during 6 years and I really tired of this accurate drawing under the layers. Now I'm drawing cool painting and this is amazing how free it feels
That is great that you found what works for you. I am very happy for you 🙂
ive definitely mimicked features of other people art styles, like the way my partner draws mouths and the way lavendertowne puts shapes as the iris
That is cool, thank you for sharing.
I love lavendertowne!!
And even when you've found your art style, it changes over time, no matter how sure you are in the style. Art evolves, don't fight it.
That is true
i’ve learned from somewhere that it’s normal to have different art styles and not to feel forced to have a specific one. i have a very cutesy fun art style and a darker and more angular art style. i enjoy practicing both and incorporating new things into them. it really is just about finding things you like from other references and taking some of those concepts to form your own version(s)!
Interesting, thank you for sharing
As I like to say, a style is a way to express things, not just a graphic style, but the way you share your thoughts visually through drawings.
interesting 🤔
I saw an art style in my dream once that I’ve been trying to mimic ever since, but I’m totally self-taught and I’m not good enough to do it yet…
Haha that is really cool. I believe anyone can draw, you can check out my free workshop that might help you and answer some of the questions (The link is in the description)
Keep going for it!!
my art style is just... something. i didn't exactly copy anyone, i just saw art tips, then drew them for myself, and i've slowly accumulated all those things, so now i have my own distinctive style. i don't know whose i would compare it to
I am very happy you find your own style in your own way
@@LucasPeinador oh! thank you :)
I actually did take this advice, im making a list of artists and art things i like to find what i like (ive been struggling to draw something ""good enough"" lately) and finding my style and what works and doesnt work for me is actually really helpful. That way im not trying to follow a different guide/artist to a tee when they have a different style than what i like. Really helpful video :3
That's great! Very happy to hear that
I have found joy in hand lettering art, combined with some simple drawings such as; feathers, flowers, butterflies, leaves, buildings, landscapes, etc... I also am getting into one-line drawing. The words are what speaks to me.
Thanks for sharing!
My art style is making things goofy, enough said
haha that sounds fun, if it makes you happy that is the most important thing
Honestly I feel like peoples art styles are more like a boundary, and for many people it’s a perfectly awesome boundary. When you draw that will always be in your style, and I think many people could clearly identify a majority of drawings done by the same person. Forcing yourself into a style is like putting yourself in someone else’s box, make your own by drawing and taking inspiration from others art as it comes. Don’t be afraid to analyze and study other artists works, just don’t force all your art to follow an art style just because you want one, you already have one anyways.
Also, copying someone else’s drawing style can strip motivation and confidence. Wanting to draw like someone else does is kind of impossible because you are your own person. You can never outdo someone at their own game. Idk I just always got super depressed and got really bad art block when I got to obsessed with imitating others art. I was also much younger then, but I feel like the whole concept of art styles can often be geared to younger artists who want to identify themselves and their art, when they should be developing their art with less of a focus on stylizing it.
Interesting, thank you for sharing
I believe that it’s really helpful to get out of your comfort zone and discover new ways of doing things and drawing things you wouldn’t normally draw to take a break and inspiration, I really advise the artist who’s struggling about something is to not rush and always try new things !! Trust me on that .
👍
i think sticking to different ones is also beautiful, you create a different masterpieces everytime
great
oh that's me there :D thank you so much it turned out great! love your shapes
Hey there Magdalina! Yeah, I watched your class in Domestika and I learned a ton with it. Since then I'm a fan :D
As an artist and a college student this is indeed what I do inorder for me to create my own style. It's literally the mixture of it all.
If you want to be more expressive then looking for a lively artstyle might work or rather you can look in Pinterest.
Awesome, thank you for sharing.
My art style flips between really simple and extremely detailed.
Then in the middle you have the perfect combination
Something that really helps me is watching someone draw or paint, no commentary, no tutorial and just and learn. Does any one know any channels like that
that is very interesting 👍 hmm right now nothing comes to mind... sorry
That's how I found my style too! Can't believe I took the right step before seeing this.
That is great, congrats.
@@LucasPeinador I love all your tutorials! 💗💕 I've been binge watching your yt shorts since this morning.
My art teacher told me that you don't need any art style, just focus on drawing in whatever way you like. He said natural instinct is best for any artist, so you must follow it. And eventually you will get what is best for you.
Maybe... but different artists want different things and that's okey
This was the best advice I ever heard. Seriously for years I made no progress with the drawing part of my manga and having my own style (although this can be attributed to my lack of practice). I used this method and in a single year I have made so much progression
Glad I could help!
i tried mimicking other people's amazing arts and just felt the things i liked and didn't like drawing. Overtime, it evolved to be my own style, altogether.
Thank you for sharing, very happy for you.
this is super helpful but the only bad this is that im extremely indecisive and the range of artists i follow are completely different from each other 😭😭
That is okey, choose whatever makes you happy
@@LucasPeinador alr thank you :))

haha
I just finally finalized my art style. It was along journey of so many art communities and art peices and my own preferences. My art style is easily adaptable for paper, it was made on paper, and for electronic. This video I watched a long time ago did help.
that is great 👍 happy to hear that 👍
I kind of subconsciously did this and I feel like a genius now
Haha that is great, congrats
After watching this video:90% artists has Sam does arts style))
My style is in the middle of Kooleen and Hayao Miyazaki art style.
TYSM💕
Haha yes he is a very good and very influential artist.
That is cool.
keep up with the good work.
i like a lot of artstyle that i just cant keep one without removing the other, its like having all the kinda of chocolate in the world and making me pick which one is my favorite but i can only select so much
Haha I understand... it is hard... especially if we talk about chocolate...
We are a collage of every artist we have ever liked in our lives. People put so much effort into trying to come up with an art style that’s never been done before when it’s just not possible. They forget to be themselves
Yes, that is true, thank you for sharing
Oh gosh, this seems so much simpler than every other way- thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Lol I had to figure out my art style by taking a FNAF character I really liked and would draw often (Daycare attendants), and get a sheet of paper and draw the body how I wanted.
It was ugly, especially the neck and waist frills. It was too geometric, and the face structure was hard to look at.
Nowadays, I keep my old art, and my current art style (that improved thankfully), and think, “I was a HORRIBLE artist back in September! Glad I improved!”
I have old art of mine on my walls and I will never take it down for the life of me.
Thank you for sharing
Me draws roasting
And it’s…
KOOLEEN!
haha
Thank god i have found this. Most of the videos i have seen about finding your art style is some sorta like psychic ‘it’s in your heart’ thing.
well hope you liked this one
Yeah it made me realize that i used to mimick the art style of some artist that i like. I do learned a thing or two on how to improve myself but they still turned out bad, so i tried the best i could.. and now i got my own art style. Dont force yourself to have an art style like the others... Let it flow by itself
🤔
Tbh I have different styles for different things, like my regular style and the style I use (for example) with dhmis drawings is completely different, kind of like how you like specific tastes for specific food types
Haha that is very interesting, thank you for sharing. :)
Why are people desperately trying to find their art style? Every artist automatically has an own artstyle. Just draw want you want and it forms by itself.
You have a point, everybody has their own distinct touch. It's not something you can really control, it's like the sound of your voice.
However you can choose what you want to emphasize. That I think should be based in what is enjoyable for you
sometimes it can be difficult to find what you enjoy and what feels natural for you. This is why we experiment
because it is what makes them happy, and I think that is the most important thing
I've heard this plenty of times described as master studies but this can lead to generic art styles and put pressure on the making of the art, where you should be enjoying the most about art for positive and healthy growth. Best way I've found is just narrowing in on an efficient but enjoyable art process (how you draw eyes, cleanliness/sketchiness of your line or painting, shapes you enjoy creating, fun ways to render/shade, etc) will show through your final work and eventually lead to a style you'll be happy with and build upon.
Interesting, thank you for sharing
I don't really look up to any artists at all so my art style feels very unique to me and thats what I like about my art.
Very happy for you
Honestly ive found that if you just draw something with no reference, that is your natural art style that can be improved over time
🤔Really?
This is literally how I got my art style, I mixed all my fixations into one and my art style continues to grow and change with each new fixation 😭
👍
Yeah I definitely find this helpful
Copying styles and combining them leads to some fun places with art
Great to hear!
Realistic and stylish mix into one
👍
Tracing really helped me find my art style! As long as you don't claim it as your own, it works so well!
Very good, yes I agree
That's true! Took me some time to get over the stigma, but in reality as long as you practice in private and don't claim the art as your own or publish it as your own work then there is no problem and really it is extremely helpful as training wheels to get your hand used to making the right strokes and shapes
My favorite artists draw in drastically different art styles, like from semi-realistic to really simplified and cartoonish. Never understood that my style is something in between
you can always mix and match and just try out new things until something works and you like it
THANK YOU I FEEL SO GREAT ABOUT MYSELF NOW
haha that is awesome
Seriously, I did this too and it really works!
I was doing a character design for my art coursework, and I'm in this step where I'm experimenting with my artist of inspiration's artstyle
I found mine! And I love it
That is great, very happy for you
This vid right here is the best example of the sentence “steal like an artist”. It couldn’t be best explained.
I guess
finally I'm not alone! someone else uses the same method! how awesome!
Haha that is really cool
That's actually how I found out my art style too.
That is great 👍
This is so simple yet seems so effective. "What do you like? That? Ok, do that, but make it yours."
haha yes
I keep coming back to this video and other videos of yours, and I’m watching your workshop right now - it’s so helpful, I’m getting so many ideas already and I’m only halfway through! Will definitely be recommending it, thank you so much!!
Awesome! Thank you! That really means a lot
Imagine having favourite artists.
Interesting... I can imagine it...
My art style comes from Lavendertown, I have watched her videos for years and unintentionally incorporated her style into mine.
That's cool
Finding the artstyle is the puberty for the artists.
haha interesting
THANK YOU SO MUCH I FINALLY FOUND MY STYLE 😭😭❤❤❤
That is great, congrats! Happy to help
I find this kinda hard because I love the anatomy/colors used on so many different types of artists!! Thank you for these tips however, I’m hoping to finally figure out what kind of style I want :)
👍
I have alot of favorite artists and they are all legends
Okey, that is cool
Also remember, just like your tastes your art style will change and adapt.
That is true
This was surprisingly really straight forward and more help than most people thank you so much😊
happy you think that
This is literally exactly how I found my style, and how I’ve told others to as well, Pinterest is an artists best friend I swear!
Great, congrats
I think it's not only about art style. It's about everything)
Interesting
Honestly I find something that's the easiest way for me to draw and the easiest way for me to convey what I'm trying to draw
Okey, that is cool.
artists will always be inspired by other artists, which is the beauty of it. in a single drawing you’re seeing every artist in the world but its through that one individual artists’ eyes and style. just an awesome thing.
👍
I found my artstyle the hard way, by going more and more realistic and talking myself down until I realized I wasn't bad at art but simply had my own style. A mix of realistic and love of details while still somewhat cartoony
interesting 🤔 thank you for sharing
This is literally how I found my art style: years and years of experimentation and taking on things from other artists, and my style is still ever-changing.
That is really cool
The thing I like about this is that you can do the same exact thing with music. Find your favorite artists/songs, really study them and compile what you like about each and then apply it into a song to really find your own style
👍
I started drawing a bit before the 2020 pandemic. And I’ve barely developed my own style recently. It’s been a wonderful journey of learning and partaking in art project on the the UA-cam. Much love to all the rookie artists out there who are just starting out. Good luck my guys and girls
That is awesome!
Pretty much the same advice given to me by every professional artist I've had a class under. In fact one even suggested that if you want to work with a particular company or studio getting your foot in the door meant you had to know how to draw free hand any character from their studio as a test to see not only how fast you are at drawing but how well you can come up with a concept to match their work.
that actually sounds like it can work, and more fun! Thank you for sharing this
Happy to help
To me, “Art style” is just a bonus that comes from really being good at fundamentals that you can execute them in distinctively (“stylized”)
Solid fundamentals, idea and expression should be prioritized.
Yes
That's EXACTLY what I did growing up!
Great, happy to hear that
I love cartoony styles 🎉
that's nice
I kept change my art styles and it's kept makes me unpleasant with that. However, your video helps me to find my own art styles! Thank you so much! 💗
Glad I could help!
just draw what you can, over time you’ll come across stuff you like and it’ll teach you, that’s what worked for me
Interesting, thank you for sharing
The funny thing is, that my artstyle IS being the "mimic"
I constantly take things from other people's artstyles, and proceed to combine them in different ways, or just try the artstyle with a little bit of seasoning.
This is called experimental artstyle, but I often call it rotating because it can reuse things from before, or sometimes I do something a few times and then forget hoe to do it.
👍 interesting ✨ thank you for sharing
I'm not really an art guy, but i like to draw, so my art style is just me learning how to draw what i like in a way that feels right to me
That is cool
I've watched about 30 vids to help me find my style or what to try and this made it so simple and interesting and to my liking I truly appreciate it
Glad I could help!
Finally! Someone explaining it!
Haha happy to help
Great analogy for art style! I’m excited to try this!
great, happy to help
I be learning way more about how to improve my art on UA-cam than the $1000+ classes I take In art school
Haha yeah sometimes that is the sad truth, but that's why we are here to help
IT ACTAULLY WORKED FOR ME THANK YOUU 😭😭😭😭😭😭
happy to hear that
Oh my gosh, Watching videos with actual good art tips gives me so much motivation and just opens my mind up more, To the point i feel a little lightheaded in a good way wow 💙
That's awesome!
I love remedios varo and i cant stop thinking about her paintings all the freaking time it feels like im always dreaming whenever i look at it and i guess my artsyle will be based from that geez i hope i can draw soon
That is great, hope you can do it
Dont let a computer tell you what your art style should be. You decide
Yes, that is the point of this video
Yes! This is an amazing advice, thanks God I could improve my art style the way I wanted by this method, I highly recommend it
Glad it was helpful!
This is awe, thanks sm!
I made this after watching the video, but didn't know it was a good technique.
I started drawing when I was just 2. Now I'm 36. I looked up for years to find my art style, and I guess I finally found it!
Amazing recommendation for the ones who were in the same way I was :D! 👏👏👏👏👏
Glad I could help!
