I had the privilege to have witnessed this trio live. Also, I saw Hiromi in a lineup with Stanley Clarke and also with harpist Edmar Castaneda. She is mind boggling.
You mentioned what kind of person she is, after Anthony Jackson had a mild stroke she started carrying his bass up and down stairs for him and she always has time to talk to her fans
I've been lucky enough to see Hiromi live a few times and with this band and it is a goosebump-inducing magic. They way she plays... it's not just amazing technical prowess of course but it's a combination of the sheer joy that comes across from the connection with her and her piano and the way she pushes the tension, rhythmically and melodically, in the way that I get off on just like the tension and release elements of Phish and of many jambands. Which really is derived from jazz anyway, but she incorporates it in more of a jam rock feel, which instantly catches my ear. And THEN you add the world-beater monsters Jackson and Phillips, who have not just the chops but the power to be right there with her and match that intensity, and it is just an absolute force of nature.
This is definitely a masterpiece, performed by over talented musicians. Hiromi may be one the greatest piano player ever. Not even because of her ability, which is absolutely awesome, but also because she plays with full heart. Her play is so emotional, I've never heard something sweeter.
Enjoyed the video, you guys definitely pointed some things out that I wasn't aware of in this performance. I do wish people would comment on some of the insane things Hiromi does like the octave chromatic "slips" with clusters in the left hand at around 4:20 in the original video... haven't really seen that technique before but it's really effective.

Followed her for about 5 years. Ex. Birklee, Boston You do not give her justice with the lack of volume. Friends with Yoko Mabuchi., another you should follow./
What incredible talent on that stage! Hiromi mixes massive chops with sheer joy like nobody else!
So crazy! Loved discovering her talent!
There's loads of great Hiromi Live performances on UA-cam. She must be one of the great improvisers of all time.
Amazing indeed!

I've read that Hiromi asked Simon Phillips to join her new project after Stanley Clarke had suggested him to her as a good fit.
Cool to know. Thank you David!

Fabulous! One of my favorite jazz piano albums is a concert recording of Duets between Hiromi and Chick Corea. Check it out.
