I still have so much to learn from Jake so I still watch his videos but it breaks my heart over and over again. What a strange thing it is to keep seeing him.....but he's gone😔💔
Hard not to cry seeing his face, but we are all so lucky to have had him as a teacher for so long. Thankyou Jake for everything you've done for all of us
@@shamswati3837it's a meme, because he killed one of his favorite corrals and said I'm dead. Don't worry, Jake is fine. I saw him last week in his shop.
The two times I met Jake was a Christmas frag exchange, he gave me an Aussie gold, and later gave me a free small frag of yellow goni that was dying off. We need more Jakes in this hobby.
This is fantastic, would love to see more hands-on videos like this accompanied by solid info! 🤓 (I was today years old when I learned that I actually have a Bernardpora...)
I very much appreciate this video Jake! I have a pink Goni I picked up from Jason Fox at Reef-a-palooza Orlando a couple years ago. I was starstruck when I saw Jason sitting at his booth by himself and had to buy something. He suggested the goniopora. This poor quarter sized frag sat shriveled up in the bottom of my tank for over a year but refused to die! One day the polyps finally extended a little bit and now another year or so later its the size of a tennis ball and covered in long beautiful polyps! Definitely one of my healthiest most prized corals! I want to frag it so I can share it with as many people as possible and share all the happiness it has brought me. This video gives me the confidence to give it a try! Many thanks Jake and Chris!
I wish I had LFS like your friend store. I live in Westchester NY and LFS are all gone. At least I can enjoy your videos. I really look forward to your youtube.
Awesome Goni tips for the new salties coming up in the hobby. We need more videos like this Jake, would like to thank you for taking your time on making such information wides thru out the hobby.
Gonis are by far my favorite coral and your channel has helped me in my journey of reef keeping .. you motivate me to research and dig into studying any piece of coral i buy.. Thanks Jake
Truly two of the best in the industry, and definitely Colorado. Love what y’all do and are so lucky to have you guys so close to home! Reef Builders and Aquatic Art FTW
So I only have freshwater tanks and my parents only had a nano reef once when I was a kid, so I have pretty much no experience in or knowledge on the saltwater hobby but, this video was fascinating. I had no idea corals could even be cut and propagated like that. I guess it makes sense once you think about it.
i had an amazebalzz colony i fragged and one frag suffered more then the other and one day inspecting i noticed a worm that lived under the skeleton that survived all the dips the only way i got him out was with a toothpick in his whole and when he came out the goni is now fully open like it’s counterparts and didn’t skip a beat check for small wholes near the edges of the skeleton and stick stuff in them see what happens!!
So cool I don't know why I haven't started a saltwater reef tank long ago soo beautiful.... Now that I'm older I get into it more .... currently I breed ball pythons I accomplished that now I'm setting up a nano saltwater tank...... But already talking about up grading and not even fully cycled yet
It’s probably been about a year since I’ve actually seen a video from Reefbuilders. Thinking about getting back into the hobby! Definitely would like to have one of those CADE aquariums
Do they ship??? . I would love a Hurlock for the garden and have a nice spot all ready for it. That or I’m gonna have to take a trip to Colorado! Goni’s are the old school love for me. Had a softball sized yellow one back In 2004 that I loved for years. Never really had a problem growing them, I got lucky I guess but the Goni love goes down to my soul so I always give them extra attention . They are THE coral that got me into reefing. Great Goni showcase Jake
Jake, please go over and help out Scott Anderson. I watched his video and it was heartbreaking. Please do a video about helping out a fellow reefer. Spread some love and positivity.
I've been in touch with Scott these past few months and besides advice for the reboot we're going to do everything in our power to get him back on track
As you talked a bit about bleaching during this episode.... Do you know if there are any detailed, scientific study of coral bleaching in an aquarium environment - to discover more about how to possible rehabilitate and save bleached coral - so that lessons learned from healing bleached coral in a controlled environment - like an aquarium - can inform efforts to potentially protect and or heal natural coral?
Hello! So I am working in a resort and we have a coral nursery with hard corals. Do you think it would work out mix some soft corals in the coral frames? I still have to figure it out how could I attach them 😂 thanks!
I have a goni a naked glitter (not glitter bomb but purple and green from UC) anyway about half of skeleton has been showing for about a year , just wont grow back! I also have cyano (mainly just glass) I cant get rid of thats probably on skeleton! Should I frag all the skeleton off with a dremel? Dont have bandsaw and how in the world is that pink goni so close to a space invader pectinia? WOW Mine have the longest stingers of any coral in my tank!
@@ReefBuildersVideo thank you for the info. I generally do a 14 day light acclimation, maybe I'll stretch it to three weeks. I look forward to seeing more success across the hobby with Goniopora so we can start sharing more species specific care, as there is certainly light/flow/feeding variance among this genus.
Great Video! What are your thoughts on the salt manufacturers packaging. The irony of this is that we all promote the love of the hobby/reefs but continue to use plastic containers for salt. These containers dont decompose/breakdown for 500 years. I personally try to only buy salt packaged in cardboard box packaging. Hoping all salt will be packaged in cardboard sooner than later. Thanks
Don’t you have an Amazeballs? I’ve been tempted to buy one but I can’t decide if I want to drop that kind of money. I’ve got four other gonis and a alveopora doing well. Do you find the Amazeballs is a more sensitive goni?
