Creative Director of Lyyra here, thanks for the love here! We are very proud of this arrangement and performance, thank you for giving it a listen and a platform!
Very lovely to meet you Erik Jacobson. You and the team have done a fine job with this ensemble. I hope to hear them live in the near future. It was a pleasure having them featured on the channel!
I am so glad you found Voces8 and are reacting, and am really looking forward to hearing your comments…always spot on! Thank you for all you do for the music world.
From what I understand, Lyyra is an ensemble formed by the Voces8 Foundation but with 6 entirely new people and meant “to build support and visibility for upper voices and their potential” (quote taken from Lyyra’s website, which does also list each of the members of the sextet)
To add a little more information to what Richard said. Lyyra is a US based part of the Voces8 Foundation. Besides Voces8 and Lyyra, the foundation also has a permanent quintet, Apollo5, and a larger chorus and orchestra as needed. The foundation's mission is to champion singing by everyone. When they tour, they will often work with local school ensembles and community groups. I have seen Voces8 several times in concert, and they are phenomenal. The arranger, Blake Morgan, is the tall bearded gentleman in Voces8. The soloist is Anna Crumley. It is a true phenomenon that you will "hear" the person or instrument the camera focuses on.
Ufff, as soon as I started listening, I felt transported to the forest of Lothlorien... it is the sound that I would relate to elves or mythological beings. A preciousness what they are able to do with their voices, thank you very much for this video that gives us to know this group. A big hug Jess
Your comments about ring lights in reflections on glasses is so on point. I recently attended a performance on Mozart’s requiem where the light spill from the choir’s pad tablets against the stage backdrop was actually annoying, at least to me. The production crew must take this new phenomenon into account. Love your analysis, thanx so much
About the vibrato in contemporary music: I learned that one of the reasons for starting with straight tone is that it saves air. So it's easier to hold long notes.
I just recently discovered Voces8... sadly, just two weeks AFTER they had performed near my home. So glad you reacted tothem. I listen to a lot of acapella music, mostly Home Free, Voiceplay and Pentatonix. However, I do explore wide ranges of acapella performances.
The Voces8 approach is to have maybe 8 different cameras operating simultaneously. The Video director, Barnaby Smith, the countertenor and director of the group, then edits the video, brining up the appropriate shots at the appropriate time in the performance. That way, you get highlighted entries and other visual effects. Where the singers are placed often depends on the piece. Sometimes the sopranos and tenors are in the middle, with the alto and basses on the ends. When there are two choirs in the piece, it's obvious that there are four voices in each group. As an opera singer, you bring that sensitivity to the physical positioning and the dramatic effects that are created. The reason the singers are wearing glasses is because this particular rendition is more informal. Every singer brings an individual look to this performance. In other cases, everyone shows up in suits and evening gowns with harmonious colours, and glasses are probably switched to contacts. In other videos it's sweaters, jeans, sneakers and maybe a miniskirt. For extreme choreography, check out Voces8's version of "I Won't Dance" 😀
Glasses are the bane of most photographers. But there are ways to reduced reflections by moving the light further off the side so it is not right in the face. Another trick is to move the temples off the ear so the glasses are slightly angled downward. For all the UA-camrs using small rooms for their studios are limited in how lighting is set up. But if you want to nerd out, wear frames without lenses.
Reaction request: Nicole Scherzinger singing Phantom Of The Opera. On the Video “Nicole Scherzinger - Phantom Of The Opera Royal Variety Performance December 14” she’s sings with several of the original Phantoms. She’s known as being in the pop group Pussy Cat Dolls, but my mind was blown and she does really well on this considering she’s not an opera singer. 🤯
I'd like you to comment on the "SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart", I especially love their album "Transkriptionen by Clytus Gottwald" that includes some mindblowing new takes on impressionist and contemporary material
I know what you mean about sound awareness, I was just thinking about that today listening to Pentatonix' Run to You! I was wondering if the engineer was continually and highlighting one particular voice throughout the song or if they were modulating volume, or what?! It is such a fantastic effect and it only is increased by watching the video.
Just wanted to suggest to you a talented young singer from GB. Lucy Thomas is someone you should listen to. 19 or 20 and already has 5 CD's out. I think she has a phenomenonal voice and a future like no other. Hope you find time. So far I've liked your channel, but this is only my 2nd video to watch. I'll be watching others😊😊
Hi Jess, I would LOVE that you react to the last "Crazy" performance of Faouzia in China. Im so intrigued on what would be your comments on it💓💓🫶🏻 Great video as always❣️✨️
Could you do a reaction video to misty mountains by Peter hollens and Tim foust pleeease it’s one of my absolutely favorites and I would love love to see your reaction.
I like how you teach us something in each reaction. could you react to Abel Pintos, an argentinian singer, a I recomend you his videos "el adivino (en vivo estadio River plate)"; "Bailando con tu sombra, festival de viña 2004" y "Para cantar he nacido"; in theses 3 videos you would how he grown up.
Hi Jess, I follow you a lot because you are very good, but above all you know how to recognize true talent. Last but not least, you are as beautiful and sweet as one of our favorite Italian desserts: "Il Babà". I know you really appreciate Dimash and I would like you to react to his latest song presented on December 23, 2023 in your concert in Hong Kong. The song is called "When I've got you" ua-cam.com/video/RVpd-7VnY08/v-deo.html The title is already a program in itself. You can also choose to see the same song in one of his latest MVs, which you can find on his channel. His songs are all special and extraordinary, but this one you absolutely have to listen to. I think you will like it very, very, very much. A big kiss to you. 💋🌹
I'm so disappointed that you haven't gotten around to a second Angelina Jordan reaction. Your Dec 2022 reaction to her "I Put a Spell on You" music video was one of the best I've seen. I hope you didn't have a bad copyright/block experience when you tried to react to her again (e.g., to her "Bohemian Rhapsody" on AGT, which was, at the time, her second most popular reaction request - and might still be). But it looks like you're still reacting to a lot of the same kinds of videos as you did before you got a strike, so that's probably not the explanation… In any case, Angelina's vast catalog of reaction-worthy performances runs the gamut from the most professionally produced studio tracks and TV/radio appearances down to the most "humble" cell phone recordings (several of which have been acpaella, actually - to make this somewhat relevant to this video I'm commenting under ;). And I'd wager you got examples of almost every type in response to your IPASOY reaction. My own recommendation was any of her various renditions of "Unchained Melody" - the number of which has almost doubled in the intervening 18 months - since it ends with the somewhat operatic "big finish" popularized by the Righteous Brothers' Bobby Hatfield. Her most recent performance of the song was at the live Nobel Peace Prize tribute for last year's winner, Narges Mohammadi. I think it's sufficiently easy to find with a search, so I won't bother including a link. Many other highly recommended performances can be found in the first two collections of playlists on the "home" tab of my channel.

I need you to react to the new Faouzia live video of Fur Elise! It’s insane and you always do such a good job at analyzing and providing commentary.

Time After Time was a pop song in the 80s

I couldn’t agree more and have the same fascination/curiosity about the topic
React to Ringmasters and Voces8. OMG
