You got there in the end Sorin. It was a heart stopping moment when that new keyboard didn't work first time. I have replaced many parts over the years only to find that it failed to fix the fault. We are only human, and now and again we get it wrong.
Professor Sorin doesn't need to demonstrate his knowledge, but he does need a rest, he looks exhausted. When we are tired we tend to skip steps, I think it has happened to all of us. This is by far the best channel for notebook repairs.
Don't cry Sorin over your mistakes. We all make mistakes as we are all human. The old keyboeard is probably fine as you tested it connected upside down. Love your honesty and great vids !
It’s very easy to short the motherboard with the metal ends of the loose WiFi connectors in 18:53 when the laptop is resting on the table. Anyway great channel and entertaining repairs
Good job sorin, Happy to see your videos and learn at the same time

To anybody with power button issue on membrane keyboard. Remove power keycap and plastic little hinges. Drill through the back plate of the keyboard, contacts are useless anyway Cut the head of a screw to size and use as spacer, solder a clicker button onto the backplate of the keyboard and wire it to the keyboard conector. Come back here a thank me later.
I was screaming at the screen: test it before replacing every component!!! I think you connected the old keyboard mirrored on the connector though, pin #1 is at the end of the ribbon
I keep seeing your Fnirsi C1 meter goes into screen dimming mode. You can easely change it. Select screen where 4 parameters only and make a long press middle button. Then change standby Brightness/Time.
Hey sorin, Forgetting you plugged the connector the wrong way😊…,But why not jump a wire to the power button and use a small push button, remove the plastic, put the push button and use a tiny hot glue and put back the plastic, looks as good as new and works perfect . I do that all the time no issues most time the keyboard also works perfectly 😁
Is easy to replace this keyboards, use an old tip of your solder iron, apply proper lever and go melting the plastic "rivets" without capping them, just shape them in a way the back plate can came out.
Its very good as you found your error. Humans to make them but a smart person fixes it and all good. If i had a bad power switch but good keyboard, i might just drill tiny hole on side of LT and put in a small push switch there and run the wire back to the connector; being a skin flint that i am!! Those "genuine" keyboards may not be so for long!!
17:44 i know the feeling ... Did exactly the same thing when reassembling tv after backlight replacement with t-con board i have put the flat cable upside down 🤦🤦♂🤦♀ (insulator plastic towards pins,so no harm) but i thought i messed something up for good, so i bought a new tv 😅and after some time i revisited that old one and after measuring voltage on display board and it read all 0 without shorts ... so i realised my dummy mistake .. it happens xD
Another thought Old keyboard, connect to pin 1 ON THE BOARD There should be another pin on the board that shows continuity when the switch is operated? Occams Razor. "The simplest explanation is usually the best one".... (OR when faultfinding, should be the first one checked)
I have an A517 with near identical symptoms. Was working perfectly and sitting idle but on until out of nowhere windows began shutting down. Completely dead afterwards but still charges although very slowly. No response to power button but if you tap pwr and esc a couple of times at the same time the Acer logo comes up on the screen for about 3 seconds then all hard shuts off and no response until you remove the battery charger and bios battery. Problem isn't the keyboard, battery, ssd or ram as all work perfectly on identical laptop with exact same motherboard. Wish I was in the UK so I could send this to you as I'm positive you'd figure it out within minutes.
i have an acer identical to thaT BUT CHROMEBOOK , after converting to sea bios and adding win 10 it had power issues in windows saying nothing works when really was, and when I duel installed linux it was charging etc all fine all was being recognised. windows was saying not charging and showing led lights to reflect same. An interesting case
look at 18:20 sorin did the test with the keyboard connector plugged in upside down.. the striped bars should be facing down and facing up should be the black side of the ribbon cable. The old keyboard was probably fine 😂😂😂😂
When you tested the old palmrest the connector was not connected in the right direction Sorin the black side must face you when you connect the cable please, Great fault finding though.
When you first shortcuted 3.3 to ground, and the laptop started windows, you should have then tested the old keyboard, if some keys are faulty you can say that maybe the power button was wrong, but if you get not any key at all working that will make you pop the idea that maybe the keyboard was not properly connected. Somedays you won, and somedays is a tie :D
jobs like this... feels bad xD :D blue part of the ribbon needed to face toward motherboard when testing old keyboard .... plastic clip was good enough reason for old keyboard not to work ...
Hi Sorin, good job...i think poor quality material or libre battery on the Keyb flat cable can cause the fault..every year going on oem reduce quality of product and parts...bye Francesco Timpano from Florence Italy
Sorin,,actually you can do a dodgy repair by replacing the power button key on the old keyboard with a micro switch😂. I did that for how many times, specially on Acer Aspire ES1-432😊.
I am repair technician from Pakistan if i got same issue i mean power button issue and other keys working so i put click button near charging port or other port cox its cost cheap and also ebay not work in my country.
tried searching a lot can't find your store address I am close by based on my search but don't know exact address, have dropped email too any other way to find your address so I can walk in rather that posting.

Hence, when you shorted the pins to boot, the reset BIOS threw a Windows error the first time, at 8:11 THEN powered up normally on the second boot........ ? BUT, when you installed the new keyboard, no boot until you reinstalled the clamp.
Dodgy Sorin old keyboard is plugged the wrong way 😂😂😂
I was going to say that, the connector is upside down, the blue plastic strip on the old cable goes the other way!
Old keyboard probably works
@@slick2322 Yep had the membrane wrong way up when he tried testing it with the motherboard installed on the new one, hope he spots it lol
Yeahhh 😂 18:18 180degree faultysticus 😂
@@YasirKhan-uy3jn yeah it's pugged in wrong way sorry for you sorin 😄
17:39 Looks like you connected the old keyboard the other way around ( first pin is last pin) when you checked it.
I try to say "you connected the old keyboard in wrong way" and i read the comment, they all say the same thing😂😂😂
18:24 I think u plugged the ribbon Cable upside down🤔
Try it again if u can, U could have a spare palmrest to sell
Yup the old keyboard cable was reversed. The white label on the keyboard needs to be facing upwards.
You got there in the end Sorin.
It was a heart stopping moment when that new keyboard didn't work first time.
I have replaced many parts over the years only to find that it failed to fix the fault.

I have the same issue with the same laptop. Thanks for putting me on the right track to fix.

Greetings. Absolutely. Sorin is truly gifted.
Don't cry Sorin over your mistakes. We all make mistakes as we are all human. The old keyboeard is probably fine as you tested it connected upside down. Love your honesty and great vids !
Good one Sorin. You are a human after all.
I bet if Sorin put the board back in the old palm rest and fitted the cable correctly it will work!
It’s very easy to short the motherboard with the metal ends of the loose WiFi connectors in 18:53 when the laptop is resting on the table. Anyway great channel and entertaining repairs

Epic reaction @16:45 :D
Oh my! The original keyboard likely is fine...just wasn't connected correctly. Get some rest, Sorin :)
Good job sorin
As noted, should be
Label side facing you,
Ribbon side facing the board,
White clamp between the ribbon and the board.
We demand to test again with right orientation😂
Very Nice! 😎😎😎
Good job mate 👏
good job as always

30 years fixing copiers taught me 2 rules
1) Never assume
.
2) Always ask "When was the last problem and what did the last guy do?"
Mistakes are good. We learn from them and they get fewer.

Very good! I hate ribbon cables, maybe the loose battery damaged the keyboard, No screws at battery is mad, LOL
klavyeyi çıkardığınız anda ters bağlı olduğunu fark ettim bazen bu hataya bende düşüyorum ve eski klavyeyi test ederkende yine ters taktınız 😉
The old keyboard is plugged in wrong way 😅
Omg Sorin man :)
I changed the complete palm rest on my acer due to the hinge screws were ripped out, the one that turned up was backlit as a bonus
Old keyboard is plugged in upside down 😂. If happens
Agree with chat old keyboard tested left to right wrong way .

Hotglue for keyboard connector maybe
Also old palmrest keyboard went in the wrong direction 😅😊
17:54 you plugged the old keyboard in backwards. It may still be good?
i have an acer identical to thaT BUT CHROMEBOOK , after converting to sea bios and adding win 10 it had power issues in windows saying nothing works when really was, and when I duel installed linux it was charging etc all fine all was being recognised. windows was saying not charging and showing led lights to reflect same. Old keyboard tested with ribbon backwards. I think the wizard knows this anyway. 😜
you plugged both keyboards on the wrong way 😂😂

No hot glue to prevent the keyboard connector to open?
Old keyboarf connected 180degree opposite direction, probably it’s working check it again with marking pin one on flex cable

17:37 the kayboard is fliped respect to the other conector. Bouth should working
Did you connect the keyboard incorrectly? I used the old one for testing.
Hello sorin, that way the old was in reverse position
Dell optiplex 7010 processor fan spinning but no display solution please?
If all voltages are present, try RAM remplacement or flashing the BIOS.!
the ribbon was plugged the other way around xD sorin, youre starting to get old brother looool
17:49 Sorin, Keyboard is plugged in backwards, check the video, Sorry but you have to flip it over, like when it is installed. Paul, USA!
I think you can return it if you are in time
Your mistake is that you haven't more properly checked the condition of the old keyboard.
So is the old keyboard ok or it's broken?
Sorin got scared he no get pizza today. But later nom nom nom nom
Common issue of a keyboard with power button in it. Even if Sorin mistakenly plugged it, it's still defective and unusable.
Every time the way he pulls back the motherboard to see the screen .... bending the whole laptop OMG
Sorin,,actually you can do a dodgy repair by replacing the power button key on the old keyboard with a micro switch😂. I did that for how many times, specially on Acer Aspire ES1-432😊.
It is true the ribon is the other way around

things like this do not happen only to those who do not attempt these sort of repairs "I am going to cry now" Sorin says

Old keyboard is most likely good, customer probably ripped the connector thingy an insert-it the wrong way 😄😄
The old keyboard at the end was upside down as u looked at it
I have the Ryzen 4000 series version of that laptop
I am repair technician from Pakistan

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. 🙂
I used to use jumped instead of jumps so all my laptops went back to customers with s key not working.😅
😂@@Swenser
Allot acer laptops have this broken keyboard faults 😊
"Working Acer keyboard" for sale on line £25? (😉)
WHEN YOU CONNECTED THE OTHER KEYBOARRD ON TOP OF THE LAPTOP YOU HAD THE RIBBON CABLE UPSIDE DOWN
Old keyboard is good and wrong way to test after install board on new on😂
The original wasn't plugged the correct way Sorin.
you plugged the ribbon connector in the opposite direction you have to rotate it
18:19 u have to rotate the old keyboard cable
someone changed the keyboard on the wrong way
Wrong way sir 😂
keyboard is connected wrong , old keyboard 99% good ❤
I have this laptop. This is a bit worrying. Hope I don't have to repair.
mistake on purpose???
you trying to foul us? hahahaha
