Are you excited about AI and learning or do you think we're losing something?

I teach graphic design and filmmaking at a high school level. I think the brass ring is being able to develop differentiated lessons tuned toward the learning styles of the individual students and then track those connections to the learning/creating process. Then getting granular feedback on the result of the different lessons and assignments.
I try to lead my students through Blooms Taxonomy so they understand where we are trying to go in our process of exploring the subject.

Totally agree. Wouldn't that be great? I don't think it's too much of a stretch, honestly.

Ive been fooling around with Suno v3 to generate satire, ive been making music for 20 years, mostly electronic/experimental. I started viewing other users and started seeing how people structure lyrics, so yes i think if used creatively its good practice for lyric writing. The creative side of generating an instrumental for me has been mashing genres, not for the purpose of publishing, but to examine new ideas i may want to incorporate in my own work. A.i. just like a smart phone are extensions of our bodies. Were the first wave of primitive cyborgs lol.

I work as an educator to adults, at a high level. When these machine are 10 times or 1,000 times smarter than us .... I can see how they will teach us and guide us. But to assume that they will "riff" with us in any meaningful way to *them* is silly. It's like, I'm not going to riff on art with my dog. I'll train my dog and give it a meaningful life, but I'm not going to invite it into my lecture theatre to help educate people. AI today is great for helping us. We have to think about the exponential curve and where we will fit into it in 10 years time. What's the point of kids today learning maths, when they can put on glasses which will answer any question they have .... imagine they are in a field and ask "show me the stresses on this wind turbine" and the glasses just give them answers as an overlay on the wind turbine - high stress areas highlighted in red. Do we need maths for that? Sure. Do we need to study maths for 15 years? I don't think so. No everyone. Sure, some people may wish to. But for the vast majority of people education will be applied when they need it... Like I do at the moment. If cooker blows up I google and youtube how to fix it, I don't rely on 15 years of cooker education. If my car breaks down I do the same, a google and a youtube video may help. I don't need to study motor mechanics.
As a society we think in terms of the "unknown future", so we need an educaiton that covers everything that person may need to know. A huge foundation of knowledge that they sort of, kind of learn maybe 50% of. Then they are prepared for a job. But if jobs go (thanks AI) and computers run our governments and businesses and everything else. .... what then? Education for the sake of learning? Maybe. I guess we still train dogs. Maybe AI will see that training/teaching people is better than not teaching them.
We used to teach woodwork. Art. Music. Knitting. Sewing. Etc etc etc.... what else will we drop in the future? What else is not really needed?
The future is going to get weird.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The future is indeed going to get weird, but also exciting. The challenge will be to balance the efficiency and precision of AI with the richness and depth of human experience. The role of educators might evolve, but the essence of education - inspiring curiosity, nurturing potential, and guiding personal growth will always be relevant.

@@ChaseJarvisInspiring curiosity is only going to be relevant if we still exist.

i think we need to look at minimum income for people. ai is exciting but eventually many us will not have enough to do. i think that if we don't have a minimum income we will have social break down

Yes, maybe we will. But frankly, it was invented to make alredy rich people even richer, so as long as we are not there yet with a total global collapse of entire human societies the truth is big business behind such things couldn't care less. It's all about profit margins and if protective or preventive measures are only an expense and not a net profit companies couldn't care less while national governments with budgets smaller than of those companies have very little or nothing to say in this regard.

@ 17mins you butt in to give a low input statement about your wife. This is a disrespectful error.
