Go From 30 Handicap to SCRATCH - The K-SWING Will Make You a Great Golfer!

  • You will melt shots off your scorecard with the K-SWING. This golf swing style is powerful, consistent, and easy on your body. Golfers who switch to the K-SWING see dramatic improvement in their scores. They also have more fun hitting the ball farther and straighter. Pro golfers do the K-SWING as well. It's more repeatable than traditional golf swing methods. It makes ball striking easier by giving you a crispy divot after the ball shot-after-shot. It generates effortless power - allowing you to bomb it 300 yards feeling ZERO work. It's easy on your body because it allows your body to turn the way it's designed to. Traditional golf swing methods are complex, rely too much on timing, and can cause back or knee pain. This is because traditional golf swing methods force you to resist your ability to turn. This causes stress on your lower back and knees which can lead to injuries later on. (Will Zalatoris anyone?)

    Hey Tom great video ! I'm 63 and had 2 Rotator Cuffs reattached and long head of my bicep on my right side done on Oct 28 2022. My early season ball striking has been atrocious to say the least. I've played at 0-2 Handicap for over 15 yrs. Playing at 5.5 now. I went to the range today after viewing your video twice . I implemented the "K" it was absolutely "MASHED POTATOS Brother" ! Playing tomorrow and will use it then too.

      Nice job incorporating this lesson into your swing, Steve - I'm very glad to know that it worked well for you at the range and I hope it performed nicely on the course!
      By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
      Thanks again for your message!!

      Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I sincerely appreciate the referrals and support!!
      The keys to playing a shot when the ball is below your feet are in: 1) adjusting your setup to properly orient yourself to the ball (since it will be closer to you, your upper body will be angled more towards the ground than on a standard shot), 2) balancing yourself as you may need to feel your weight more towards the heels of your feet depending on the severity of the slope, 3) taking an extra club or two than you normally would from the given distance, and 4) aligning yourself with the expectation that the ball will fade. Once you are oriented, balanced, and properly aligned, you are ready to execute the swing as taught. Bump your hips forward an inch as you typically would so your weight favors the front side 55-60%, and when you take it back make sure that your weight stays forward and your shoulders do not flatten out as they turn, as they will have a tendency to do so due to their preset steeper orientation. In fact, a good thought for this shot is to keep the chest pointing down as you turn, since mishits from this type of lie are oftentimes a result of the golfer coming out of his or her tilt in the backswing.
      Conversely, a ball above your feet will necessitate having your upper body oriented for a less steep shoulder turn that allows the club to work more around the body, weight perhaps favoring the balls of the feet depending on slope severity, and allowing for a drawing ball flight. You'll likely need to choke down on the club a bit, and for this reason plus the curvature you may also want to club up for this shot, bearing in mind that the ball may tend to roll out more upon landing due to the draw spin. Once again, after making these adjustments you'll want to execute the swing motions as taught - weight forward, tilt/turn/extend, hands in, keeping your swing center intact.
      The short answer with regard to uphill and downhill lies is to 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, and 5) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results.
      Tom

      I'm very glad to learn of your improvement!!
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs - which is quite normal early in the swing change process as a golfer gets used to applying the weight-forward concept to the fairway woods and driver - it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
      Embrace the challenge and keep up the great work!

      Thanks. The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. Can you have some transfer of pressure into the trail side in the takeaway? Yes - as mentioned in this video, and as long as you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered motion that harnesses the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum", where physics and geometry collide. 💪💪

      In our setup for this swing system both feet are flared out approximately 20 degrees, and the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn - commencing in the takeaway - at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees.

    Tom, I have been practicing with your "weight forward K " swing for a week or two with irons and 3 woods.(I never practice with a Driver).yesterday I played in a foursome with two dudes we got paired with .Warmed up normally with 8 IRON and 3 wood, went to first tee with 2 thoughts "head centered and weight forward" and bombed my tee 50 yds in front of the rest of my group. By the time we got to the 9th hole ,which I hit driver and pitching wedge for birdie, I was tired of hearing "beautiful drive ". We go to # 10 and it's now a threesome . I asked where is Bill ? The other guy said "Bill said he was tired of being intimidated by your drives and quit "...true story

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому +1

      I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement with the irons!
      This swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver.
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. However, as I routinely say, let your ball striking quality and shot shape consistency be your guide.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". If I had a true fix for the putting yips I'd be a billionaire.... 😎 Seriously, if you do a search you'll come across so many different thoughts on the topic. The problem is that each individual's version of the yips is unique to themselves because they are typically the result of a psychological trigger and not a mechanical issue. I would first suggest checking your alignment, because if the brain senses something is amiss then it can make a last-second correction that may feel like a yip twitch. A session with a putter fitting specialist can really help in this regard. Beyond that, I suggest experimenting with different grips - both the actual grip that you have on your putter as there are so many different options available now, as well as the way you hold it.
      I hope that helps!

    Really good video. My question is about ball position. For mid irons and shorter do you play the ball at about the middle of your stance. I'm not sure if it is camera angle, but it looks to me like it is pretty much in the middle. Does it vary according to the club? I have always had problems with fairway woods, but I started watching your videos and started putting the weight forward and now I am killing it. Thanks for making this info available.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому +1

      I'm very glad to learn of your improvement, Greg - nice job!!
      Yes - we first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.
      Keep up the great work!!

      No matter which club you are swinging, in the backswing the lead knee always works straight down in the direction established at address - which should be flared slightly outward towards the target. This keeps the weight forward and the swing center intact. Any inward movement of the lead knee will shift the center and low point backwards. This can lead to inconsistency and may also cause some discomfort to the knee.

    What is lost on most is that your left leg posts up and back creates incredible speed for your entire body and to the club head. It’s straight up physics. The center pulling away from a swinging object creates MORE speed, not less.

    BUT, how's this setup and swing work with the driver and or fairway woods? I'm guessing hitting a wood is easier and similar, but what about driver? Does JUST ball position take care of things, or do I have to add more upper body tilt to hit up on the driver? And wouldn't that tilt take away from the K shape?

    When i started golfing i always hit the ball fat. I would always feel my body falling back to my left side. So one day i decided to keep all my weight forward and what do you know......... no more fat shots. To me it feels like im leaning way too forward but when i watch video i look normal. Another thing i found too is dont try push your back swing further than your body really wants to go. This just causes problems. My swing feels like i take a half swing but yardages with my clubs hasnt changed much in 20 years. A little shorter but im also in my 50s and not my 30s anymore 😂

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому

      Nice job figuring out that weight-forward component on your own!! And yes indeed, one of the keys is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
      By the way, should you ever wish to take your learning and your game to the next level, please consider enrolling in my online school. We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position.
      Thanks,

    Tom; did you go to what looks like an "oversize" grip, in order to iron out the "over-draw" that you spoke about in a previous video?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  8 місяців тому +1

      Steve - I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023 - including in this video. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally love the feel as well as how they help to keep my hands quiet through the zone. While the latter wasn't necessarily my primary reason, it was a definite added benefit.
      Now, having said that, I recently purchased a new set of PXG's, and since they don't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available grip, which is a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently.
      The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf.

      Hi Ryan,
      One of the basic setup features for this swing system has the shoulders, hips, and knees in a stacked relationship. Head position relative to the ball will then based purely on where the ball is positioned in our stance. In this regard, while this system affords some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.
      I hope that helps. Have fun out there working this lesson into your swing!

      Well done!! I am very glad to know that the "K" helped your ball striking!!
      Yes - This swing key also applies to the driver.

      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому +2

      Hi Aaron,
      It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. If contact is good and your path is properly approaching the zone from the inside, then I would begin with tweaking ball position, as this is something you can experiment with that does not involve diving into any swing interventions. This is always the preferred way to begin when trying to correct a ball flight issue.

    Does this weight shift apply equally to drives as it does with irons? Or do we want to keep our weight more neutral when we drive?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому +1

      Hi Matthew,
      In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
      It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
• @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  11 місяців тому

      Hi Gary,
      In this swing system the lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientation that we preset at address. The flexing/straightening occurs gradually and in response to the increasing forward weight load and the centered tilting, turning, and extending components of the motion. They are not contrived actions unto themselves. We're simply allowing them to be reactive, thereby freeing up the hips and shoulders to execute an unrestricted, centered turn. Please have a look at this recent video for more detail on the topic: ua-cam.com/video/tnrBg0R_d4g/v-deo.html

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому +1

      The stock finish for this swing system does have a somewhat abbreviated look to it because it is simply the result of a very connected, powerful, and body-friendly motion. Have a look at Tommy Fleetwood's finish, for example - he is one of the best ball strikers out there. And there are plenty of others on Tour whose follow-throughs are similar. There's no need for the shaft to whack you in the back, and for many in the amateur ranks that type of loose finish is an indicator of a loss of critical structure somewhere in the swing motion.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  9 місяців тому

      Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention.

      That depends on your available time and how effectively you work it, Raymond. Everything is laid out in a structured, step-by-step manner for ease and efficiency of learning. Each individual can then progress at their own pace and according to their particular ability. Here are a number of unsolicited testimonials in which members share their respective stories: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
      I will say that regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in this swing system - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to a shift & lift swing style where one may have been taught to keep their trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in the trail side, in this system we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built.
      Thanks for your interest. I hope to see you in the school!
      Tom
