    When the water is high like that is some of the best trout conditions. The fish move into more predictable locations like the one you are fishing, and the increased flow gives them cover to feed and increases the presence of food sources in the water. Most of those fish are stocked rainbow trout. You can tell by their muted coloration, uneven fins, and pug noses. The fish at 14:50 looks more like a wild rainbow trout to me, due to its clean fins, brighter colors, and par marking along the body. Great catches!

      @@aronbennett1914 wild rainbow means a fish that was born in the river (not from a hatchery). Rainbow trout are not native to this region, but can be wild. Brook trout are another species and are native to the region. Brook trout can also be wild or hatchery stocked. Stocked trout tend to have a poor appearance as compared to wild trout, although they are still colorful and lively. This is true of all trout species. In rare cases, such as a natural pond hatchery without a concrete bottom or when hatchery trout are fed natural food sources (not pellets), hatchery trout can very closely resemble wild trout. I hope this helps!

    As someone new to fishing I love your channel. Was cool to see you get out of FL into a different fishing situation and have success. Very cool. I noticed your comment on how slippery the trout are. I’ve recently learned that it is a protective layer and if handled with dry hands or gloves it ruins that layer. I was told to always wet your hands before handling a trout.

      Personally I would absolutely love to go fish around Gatlinburg and the Cherokee forest areas, but it's sadly just a little bit too far of a drive for me to justify driving all the way there only to fish for a single day and have to pay for the extra licenses as well, as I'm actually a Tennessee native instead of being from North Carolina and so I would need them.
      Thankfully though, we have a few places pretty close to where I live in TWRA's Region 3 for at least decent Trout fishing opportunities, including a few areas that get stocked all winter long that I plan to take full advantage of.

    Hi Brant, although I am not from TN and even not from the US i can fairly say that all but the 2 last fishes are stock fishes. You can see it from their tails and fins which did not develop as native ones would. Stock fish because of being stacked in massive quantity in very little space and having little to no need to swin any current will have limited tail and fins growth and in some instances weird developments.
    It is pretty noticeable on the penultimate fish the perfect tail and pectoral/dorsal fins as well as great dots and color making me think it is native. hope this helps!

    • @drkrm
      @drkrm Рік тому +5

      Fxotw8478 Is correct about the fins on stockers. The last two were probably “hold overs” stocked last year. The colors on native trout are going to be much more brilliant. Just about any trout you catch in a larger stream or river will be stocked. You have to get way up the little feeder creeks to find any natives.
      You did great. Much better than most people that fish downtown. They’re much harder to catch in clear water. If you can see them, they can see you.

As tempting as it may be, don't try to feed them or play with the cubs and you should be fine. Both areas (Gatlinburg and Apalachicola) are awesome for fishing, scenery, and wildlife. I highly recommend either if someone wants to move to them.

    Fished in those exact spots last year with my buddies. Was during the FFA convention. We didnt have poles so we used sticks with some lines and hooks. Got a good ammount.

    Usually, you can tell when they are stocked fish by their fins worn down from swimming in circles in the fish hatchery tanks kind of like sandpaper because the tanks flow in a circle because trout live in moving water.

    That’s some high water. I went there in the summer and caught a whole bunch of smallmouth bass just downstream of there. I caught a couple of nice trout too.

    I am a very old man of the river... I am now too old, too sick, and too feeble to get out and enjoy fishing... but, before I go, I would like to share a few "secrets" with you younger guys to help you call in and catch fish, especially when the aren't biting: first, understand that the spirit of the river or stream is called "Malemuke".. be sure to greet Malemuke when you begin to fish the stream !! Then, if the fishing is slow, repeat these words in rapid succession: "Geronimo" - "Bonzai" - "Komikazee" - "Casablanca" ... do this over and over silently to yourself and see what happens!! (and please do NOT share this stuff with anyone but a really good and true friend... keep it quiet please)

    I don’t know about Tennessee but in most other states the stocked trout have their adipose fins removed … I would assume that those were wild …

    I discovered the pink trout magnet years ago in a vid of guys nailing rainbows in conditions like this same time of year in a Maryland stream. My go to and next time try garlic salmon eggs seem to work in winter streams.
