Minneapolis truly lost a great asset when the Great Northern Depot was torn down in 1978. If only they had the foresight to keep it standing, it may have gone full circle to be a busy train depot for all the new commuter rail lines being proposed.
I always thought it was an ugly building compared to SPUD. When it comes to having a memorable departure or arrival the Milwaukee Road station wins hands down.
Those CB&Q E Units were sure stunning,the best looking Diesel Locomotives ever built
