This is the only clip I have ever saw of this train that brings back so many memories of the 50s and 60s.
Those CB&Q E Units were sure stunning, the best looking Diesel Locomotives ever built
Would the F7 class Hudson Hiawatha be back.
Excellent job.
The good old days of the travelling Royal American Shows. I looked forward to them coming to town every summer.
Was this the last year of the Rockets?
Is this the same layout that bob rival soo line layout that I see on UA-cam and also is this a dc layout?
when i left MINNESOTA, IN 2005, it was still running.canadian pcific, then pogress RAIL.
that also went through ST LOUIS PARK MINNESOTA
That bridge over 494 looks so nice, seeing a train crossing it nowadays is quite a rarity
MNS 40 then Soo 6240 now PGR 40. Glad it’s still around in MNS blue.
Between Soo and PGR Minnesota Transportation Museum sold it to PGR.
@@burtfos Correct. I had heard it was missing a part that would have been expensive to replace and was sitting at a Soo depot at Thief River Falls slated for selling/scrapping; glad PGR made it sit up and go again. Now, of course it's at Wisconsin Northern (a PGR subsidiary). I keep meaning to make a road trip to photo it with my "good camera".
I wonder if MN&S ever regretted their decision to buy the turbo SD39’s instead of some plain old SD38’s. Was the turbo really worth anything?
300 horsepower
One thing you forgot were do you get a ballast machine?
Agreed, there were no Milwaukee electrics here. Probably taken somewhere between Montana and Washington state. Also the tunnel scene is probably somewhere out West as well. A lot of the rest I recognize.
nice leading war bonnet, i just subscribed to you and hoping for more nice clips. thanks again fellow minnesotan
WOW amazing, thanks for posting , 2 thumbs up
This is fantastic, thanks for sharing LOVE IT !
I don’t remember The Milwaukee Road running electric locomotives in Minnesota.
South Shore Line. True. Looks like a Milwaukee Little Joe. That's part of that "a little out of state thrown in" mentioned in the description.
Memories of the past. Most appreciated. I spent considerable time at St Paul Union Station in the early 1960s.
Nice Trains!
Love the sound track
How great to see the old Soo Line combination of an SD40-2 and an F7. Just the right HP to drag a train of grain empties over the Paynesville sub.
What is this witchcraft?!?!?!?
Singing (to yourself please) .... Those were the days my friend, we'd thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance for every local train ........
Uma viagem fantástica com a visão do maquinista! Rio RJ Brasil
Nice to see the E5s during their glory days. Thanks for posting
See this for the first time. Why hasn't this thing been offered for sale?
great cab ride and beautiful lay out!
2:38 - auto club yard. A veritible ghost town today but here you see all the rails buried by weeds today.
Where is that yard located?
@@TNS17 Just south of Nesbit yard in Bloomington, Minnesota. South of Hampshire Hill apartments on Hampshire avenue. Today it’s near a dog park next to the Best Buy Co warehouse.
@@TNS17 Auto Cub Yard is about a mile south of Nesbitt Yard (6408 W. Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington). Most of the yard activity takes place at Nesbitt today, in fact they added a big CP sign, there's a CP high-railer truck parked there and they added an extra building to the one already there. I drove by there today and there were long rows of cars there waiting for activity Monday morning. Most of the PGR power (former MN&S units that are painted like MN&S units) ties up at 96th and Lyndale right behind the credit union in a fenced area adjacent to Ziegler cat. This is all in Bloomington, Minnesota if you're viewing this from out of the area. There's another independently released DVD called "MN&S: Memories of the South End" that I recommend if you can find a copy of it. It's similar footage but includes the road units among other things.
@@aliensporebomb ooOOoo! There's a DVD of MN&S trains? Where can I find that?
Great video - it sure looked like the MN&S swing bridge at Savage at 0:33. And further south on the same line perhaps at 1:01. But, a lot of these sites would be interesting to see what they look like today and if they have rail service!
Woaj
I think that the description provided here is enough to build such a device: model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/4191
Has anyone got a copy of the plans that they can send me copy, as would love to make one of these
Love the 70's porn music.
nothing like porn musib
Debbie does Ballast
Made me chuckle that , nice one
I remember hearing that air horn all the time when I was a kid. I live near the "High Line" and love watching Progressive Rail and CP traffic on the MN&S Subdivision.
I believe the location of those shots at the Minneapolis Great Northern Depot is now just a parking lot, plus the Cedar Lake Trail running parallel to BNSF's Wayzata Subdivision. Thanks for sharing these awesome videos. So much has changed around the Great Northern Depot site and I can't tell if its been for the better or worse.
Is this where the stadium is now?
The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis building sits on the sight of the once Great Northern depot.
@@xanaxsnax No. The Great Northern depot sat closer to the Mississippi River than where the current Twins Stadium is now. A difference of two or three blocks to the West is where the stadium sits.
Minneapolis truly lost a great asset when the Great Northern Depot was torn down in 1978. If only they had the foresight to keep it standing, it may have gone full circle to be a busy train depot for all the new commuter rail lines being proposed.
I always thought it was an ugly building compared to SPUD. When it comes to having a memorable departure or arrival the Milwaukee Road station wins hands down.
Fantastic! Always good to see different techniques for ballasting, anything that makes it easier and quicker is worth knowing about. I wouldn't use sandpaper on the railheads though, you'll put tiny scratches in the metal that will collect dirt. Better to use a razor blade or scalpel.
Yeah, that does seem like a better idea.
Woops
what scale is this
Nice video, Greg!
I wish there was sound on those 8mm.
What a terrific set of scenes. Thanks so much for posting!
ok well i just happened to get my hands on this article today while out at live steam railroad park and i have it for anbody that wants a copy of it contact me at Messinglarry@yahoo.com subject: Vac Powered Ballast Mach article
I think that's the swing bridge in Savage MN.
How much would you charge to make one?
How much would you charge to make me one?
You should make these "ballast machines" and sell them on eBay. :)
I received my copy of the January '78 Model Railroader magazine two days ago and set about making one of these yesterday. I purchased two 1 foot lengths of 3/8" brass tube and 10 ft of plastic tubing.Total cost $21.00.Built in 2.5hrs. I have to say it is the best $21.00 I have spent on my layout to date and it was very easy to make. Having watched countless videos on various techniques of ballasting you will not find a better way than this. Do yourself a favor, buy the magazine and build one.
How does this work on track laid on traditional cork roadbed with the beveled edges? I'm surprised nobody has made a commercial version of this that could be purchased.
1:29 is this the dan patch line bridge?
