I think that if you were looking for a bowling all-rounder, you'd go for imran, and if you were looking for a batting all-rounder, you'd be hard-pressed to choose between kallis and sobers. I personally would choose sobers for his left-handedness and ability to bowl both spin and pace, but you would be equally justified in choosing kallis considering that he played in a more professional, competitive era.
As for the wicket-keepers, the traditionalist in me might consider knott or bob taylor, but the truth is that gilchrist was a fine keeper and his batting at no. 7 is invaluable.

Mark should have mentioned a certain courageous 1950s/60s Australian leg spinner who averaged 27 with the ball, 24 with the bat, fielded brilliantly and invented modern captaincy...

I adore Richie, but I'm a bit confused. He had Sobers in his squad, but I got the impression he wasn't in the final eleven. Surely I have this wrong. The player who players voted the number 2 of the greatest cricketers who ever lived. Only next to Bradman?

As a character and as an allrounder Imran is one of a million. He is the greatest crickter Pakistan ever produced. Best bowler ofcourse Wasim.

    • @najibyarzerachic
      @najibyarzerachic 4 роки тому +3

Wasim Akaram is over hyped. His strike rate is worse than all renown fast bowlers that Pakistan had produced. In tests Waqar Younis has the best strike rate followed by Shoaib Akhtar, Mohd Asif, Shabir Ahmed , Imran Khan and then Wasim Akaram.

    • @TalhaIsCool

As a Pakistani, who watched both IK and Wasim Akram, I would pick IK over Akram any given day, as a bowler. Why, because remember IK pretty much played as a batsman only in his last 6-8 tests (a few in 1983-84 as well, when he had the shin injury). Just think what his SR and bowling average would be if he was fit enough to bowl in those tests. Akram for all his magic and mystery etc. didn't do justice to his talent based on his numbers in Tests.

my greatest ever eleven for all time across formats
    1 Barry Richards
    2 Gordon Grenidge
    3 Sir Don Bradman (captain)
    4 Sir Viv Richards
    5 Sachin Tendulkar
    6 Gary Sobers
    7 Imran Khan
    8 Adam Gilchrist
    9 Sir Richard Hadlee
    10 Shane Warne
    11 Wasim Akram
    Logic for selection:
All of the 11 can bat, so you are never out of the contest if you lose a couple of wickets, all players bat aggressively.
5 world class bowlers Akram, Warne, Hadlee, Khan and Sobers. Sobers doubles up as an extra seamer or spinner depending on the type of wicket.
    Excellent wicket keeper batsman.

For the all-rounders, I'd have picked Jacques Kallis over Kapil Dev, but the rest of them were fine. As for the all-rounder, if I picked Botham, Hadlee, Imran or Sober's as my second all-rounder, I'd pick Marsh as my keeper, and have him bat after both all-rounders. If I picked Keith Miller as my second all-rounder, I'd pick Gilchrist as keeper and have him bat ahead of Miller.
On picking 3 Australian keepers, I do agree that both Marsh and Healey were great keepers, but I don't think that of Gilchrist. I'd have considered Dujon, Dhoni and Knott instead

I think u never saw him play apart from Videos here and there thats why u are indirectly saying him poor Test Player, His Aura is diff than any batsman i Witness in 40 odd years I never watch Sobbers but always heard about him from my father as Master Batsman let alone all rounder. But even we agree that Viv Richards outdid him, In wisden rankings he has been choosen over him many times infact in 2007 He was Choosen As Greatest Cricketer since 70s and Greatest Batsman Since Bradman.
For Major part of his carrer he avg in late 50's, He dominated Dennis Lillee like no other infact Viv avg 64 against Lillee throught, Second best was in 30s , He pulled Thomson at his fastest on front foot in 75-76 series after opening the batting. Shane Warne who bowled to both Lara and Sachin rate Viv as Greatest Cricketer he witness so do Muralidharan. I never saw a batsman against Genuine Pacer with reflexes like those Gun Imran khan who got out Sobbers a aging Sobbers to be fair Rate Viv reflexes better than Sobbers. But i don't saw Sobbers apart from Videos so i dont think i should go more in debate U should ask Guys who saw Garry too, Anyway Since Cricket i remember after late 70s I never saw anything like Viv Richards.

Actually the game of cricket having been played for more than a century ,has produced so many extraordinary talented players in almost all cricket playing nations that it is really very difficult to include all of them ,in two opposing teams playing test cricket against each other. The renowned talented players of earlier days should be equally considered at par or more than that of comparatively recent players of both yester years and also of deemed current years. The talents of players are of prime consideration for constituting two fantasy teams ,regarded as best, for playing against each other.

So I went with a Specialist Wicket Keeper with a descent batting record, so I went with Alan Knott who was also a Man of Crisis Batsman. And But Gilchrist definitely has make into Second Test XI or Alternate XI of above All Time XI List.
Then I have a 1 Great All Rounder Sir Garfield Sobers who is the Great Left Handed Batsman and can bowl three different variations of Bowling and 1 Great Spinner Shane Warne who would have a Great Right hand - Left Hand and Leg Spin / Off Spin Combinations with Gary Sobers.
And at Last I have deservingly Put 3 Genuine and Complete Fast Bowlers Akram , Marshall and Lillee as 3 Pace Bowlers with Great Statistic Records among them and along with Warne and Sobers they brings Versatility and Varieties as well and also All of them played in The Most Golden , Toughest and Competitive Era of Test Cricket From 1960 to 2010 Era.

James Boyce Yes I agree, but bear in mind this seems to have been about 2OO4 (when Kallis was prolly not even half way through his career], which also explains why Ponting was not on the list of batsmen considered ... the reason I know it is 2OO4, is he mentioned Lara had 26 test tons (when he finished with 34 or 35, and Tendulkar had 33, and I know Tendulkar had 31 at start of 2OO3-O4 Indian tour of Australia, and he scored a double ton in Sydney, and then immediately after a near double ton in Multan, Pakistan, and the interview is obviously in England, so I make it 2OO4 ... Ponting had had his first major purple patch by that point (early 2OO2 to late 2OO3, something like 11 test tons in 21 tests to propel his average beyond 5O, but not his second such patch which was 1O tons in 13 test from late 2OO5 to late 2OO6, including in each innings 3 times], which took his average to just a miniscule fraction under 6O]. Interestingly, Ponting's test average peeked at 59.99 after first innings of 2nd test in Adelaide of 2OO6-O7 ashes (which was his 1O7th] ... this is easily the highest average any batsmen has achieved at any point beyond his 1OOth test, not necessarily the average a player's career finished at, for example, Ponting's final average dropped to just a tick under 53 at the end of his 168th and final test. Cheers

Sobers batting average of 56 ish was extremely high relative to batsmen of his era. Kallis' bowling was superior to Sobers. Sobers ability to bowl medium fast plus two types of spin, wrist and finger at test standard has never occurred before or since.

Lol,No Marshall Greatest& Most complete fast bowler thats ever Lived,No Lillee Another Champion fast bowler who Make every great batsman Of His Time as His Bunny,Apart From Viv richards Who avg over 60 against dennis,To better would have only Include players u saw and seeing Tons of Ur comment U are an ignorant Man Judging Players only On their Record,Stats Do lie mostly and always Misguide.

    • @firstal3799

You are so simple. Lilee never, he se the standards for fast bowling but he was easily surpassed by many others. Marshall is debatable and you may be right he may deserve a place. But I didn't includ him probably because he was perhaps not as devastatingly and exciting. He was more of a deadly consistent proposition. A high level bowler and astonishingly consistent. Perhaps not as devastating as the greatest. But he may be included.
By way I have played cricket at university level in both India and UK. I probably know it better than you will ever do.

    • @firstal3799
      @firstal3799 4 роки тому

Are you sure Viv averaged 60 against Lilee? Viv averaged 42 against Aus overall. And had a very poor 5 match series against Lilee and Thommo in 76. He did pkayed as a beast from 78-82. But still 60???
Lilee was awesome bowler for his time. But being the best of your time sometimes won't even make you mediocre 20 year later. Sometimes that's the fate of professional sportsmen, pity you really level of simple mind.

And Dumb He was exciting,Conistent and Brutual Knock The bat out Of gavskar hands At kanpur, ending andy llyod carrer,Breaking Mike Gatting nose ,Breaking Dilip vengsarkar Jaw.

And Yes Viv avg 61 against Dennis Lillee individually,By the way That was Not a 5 test series U succesor Of Garry sobbers,It was 6 match series and Viv was a 23 year young Kid playing in his 2nd or 3rd Tour anyway,Clive Llyod pull an Masterstroke By Letting Viv open when He struggled In First 4 test,In last opening against Them He scored A brillaint 100 A 98,A 50 and I can't remember last innings.
He was brilliant till 85 At any cricket and He changed after tha aus Tour and His peak start, But since windies played more white ball cricket where Viv mastered The game as One day game & It was becoming More popular,Not as Much as Sachin and Kohli against B grade team Every year but More matches than Test.

Have bowled long time in India Hadley, Botham or imran, then they couldn't achieve 300 wickets, in 40 degree temperature, spinning track 434 wickets never got Hadley or Botham, only imran could do that but he is not flamboyant battar like kapil dev, so kapil is best alrounder, sobers and kallis mainly battat, part time bowler.
