My Acasis TB501 has still not shipped even though Acacis took payment on 1/1/2025. I am hearing bad reports about this Acasis enclosure. So my WD SN 850X is now waiting for an enclosure from a different brand!
@@MrHtech Maybe they might swap it and maybe they might not ~ I have read their Policies about returns and refunds etc. It would be good customer service to actually reply to my email about delayed shipping and offer me the option of an updated version if indeed there is going to be one available soon or is it just a hyperinterwebbynet rumour? Acasis as a company are far from impressing me at the moment. I know you are satisfied but there are very negative reports about the TB501 in real world usage.
@ThirdEyePix there should be on , on the website when you go to the current link it has the option to select updated and pre order. I’m not loyal to any brand , I understand bad experiences can happen 👌🏼 happens to me also

My new kit includes a Mac Mini M4, with 24 Gb of RAM, a small hard drive, and a Samsung 995 Pro 2TB SSD, in an Acasis container. I have watched your videos on the use of an external SSD, and have gone 'nuclear'. Using the 'Apple Support' instructions, I now have all my o/s on my external SSD, and my internal 256 Drive is 'empty'. My transfer speeds are c. 2800mb/s. Everything works, it's per Apple instructions: sorted.
I’m new to this set up, you took the Mac operating os and put it on the external ssd drive to run the Mac mini? That how you able to keep the internal ssd empty. I have a m4 Mac mini with 16 ram and 256. I’m trying to decide if to upgrade to ram or storage? Your reply will greatly help me out thanks you

Good Morning and thanks for Watching :D If you want the absolute max performance then go for the WD OR SAMSUNG however for something very fast that is at a great price and save some money id get the ORICO. Just be careful with the samsung one as i have seen videos where although its very fast it has a tendancy to get very hot and thermal throttle. Plus if your in USA the Orico currently has a 20% OFF coupon on amazon which is just an insane price.
You can't put everything on the external drive. Booting off of a TB NVME drive isn't 100% straightforward, I've wasted 6 weeks trying to remedy issues with M4 Pro/Mini from AI and apple pay not working to incompatible software (audio related). It's been a total ball ache! You can get 3000mb/s read/write on a TB4/USB4 caddy and they're 1/3rd the cost of this TB5 caddy. Nobody is going to buy a 2230, price per MB is WAY higher than 2280. Acasis fans have bad reliabilty reports. Buy a drive with a 5 year or longer warranty. Buy a TB4 enclosure off of amazon, the additional $200 isn't worth the small increase in speed.
That’s why I recommend moving everything apart from the operating system to an external drive. Also when it comes to apps to transfer one by one to see if any issues arise.
@@MrHtech That's not the way to do it either. The way to preserve compatibility is fkd up. Install macOS on the external drive (which wastes space), then choose the internal drive to boot from. MacOS will then allow you to install software (that has .dmg installers) to the external drive. If you move apps from the App Store, you lose the ability to update, and macOS doesn't think they're installed (also fkd up). Still better saving 2/3rds and buying a TB4 enclosure from Amazon; these TB5 caddies are ridiculously overpriced for no actual (real-world) improvements, and the fan will render the unit useless. You want a passively cooled caddy.
@@jacksprat2333 I bought 2 x tooless ANYOYO TBU401 USB4/TB4 enclosures from Amazon. They come with a TB4 cable and thermal pads. Don't buy a caddy with a fan or one that doesn’t use its metal case as part of the cooling.
thanks so much for the info - if we have the home (and documents folders) on the external HD, will they be mirrored to iCloud? I currently have a 2014 iMac 27inch 2 TB drive - was thinking of the mac mini M4. Currently my documents folder shows up on iCloud and i'm able to access it elsewhere. Will this work for iCloud?

I have a Mac Mini M4 Pro with 2TB, 48Gb, and am going to install a WD 4TB SN850X SSD via T5. I am a photographer editing RAW image files with my Home Folder with Apps installed on the Mac Mini and the image files on the external T5 SSD. David Harry has produced a 50 minute video about the Acasis TB501 + WD SN850X 4TB which is very real-world and highly informative. It is titled "How To Build..." in which he clearly demonstrates the importance of any T5 enclosure needing to reduce high temperatures, especially generated by the otherwise very good Samsung SSDs ~ Excessive high heat can reduce performance.

Great video i was torn to wait for tb5 name enclosure but got an excellent deal on au green tb4 for £60, half price on Black Friday and 40% p5 crucial 2tb for £120. For my needs its outstanding, tb5 n me enclosure are not available in the uk amazon store, did you order this directly fro. Acasis USA website, hot mich was duty and international shipping? Or were you sent a freebie to review?

I used a Crucial M.2 on my Thunderbolt 4 enclosure and it met the spec, and I noticed they had a wide variety of 7400 - 12,400 MB/sec drives
Did you reformat the external drive to APFS?
