Hello Olle. I must say I do not agree with the statement, that a laptop-powered gear is necessarily wearing down your laptop battery more. In case your laptop is connected to the wall outlet and power brick provides enough power both for your laptop and devices that your laptop powers, there is basically no difference for the battery, because in modern devices the power is being passed through. In case your laptop is not connected to the wall outlet, the battery degrades anyway with each discharge-recharge cycle.
TLDR: my message is to worry less about the battery in this scenario and more about that your USB-C/Thunderbolt port gets more wear and heat. Or just don't worry about any of that while you have a sustainable source of income, because life is short 🤔
