  • Ailie Robertson’s arrangement of this stunning Celtic air.
The origins of The Parting Glass can be found in Scotland, although it's also commonly associated with Ireland. A version of the lyrics was known at least as early as 1605 with variations and fragments appearing in various songs down through the centuries. The melody was first collected in 1782. It’s a tune that means so much to so many people across the world and walks that line of beauty and sadness just perfectly.
“So fill to me the parting glass… Goodnight and joy be to you all”

Hi Ailie, what a joy this is to hear. I play it regularly in hospice, but you have invited me, via this video, to play it even slower than it I normally do. By the way, it was one of my mother's favorite tunes and I was playing it for her when she died, so this is a very special video for me. Many thanks!!!
