    I loved this one. I got all 26. I didn’t always know the definition of the correct word, but i knew the two that were incorrect. Reading great authors like Emily Brontë didn’t hurt either.

    Wow! 🎉Honestly, I'm really proud that I managed to get 24 of the 26 words right. Because I'm Brazilian, and I don't speak English fluently. I think that because of my good education in my own language, Portuguese, I might have gotten it right, because many of the words may have Latin origins, or just sound a lot like what I already know. But I found it quick and easy. I don't understand how, but it was fun. Thank you. And have a happy 2025! 🇧🇷😊

    I learned Yare from Cary Grant/Kate Hepburn movie The Philadelphia Story. Cary Grant's character was a yacht designer. Now I have something to rewatch this afternoon.

    I got 22 correct. I’m 69, a boomer. I’m sure many younger ages of today are unfamiliar with these words. Education has really changed.

      Totally. I'm 37, have an MFA in English, voracious reader of classics and still got just 22/26. They don't teach us like they used to. If I come across a word in a book I don't know I just assume it or google it.

    I think you added an extra syllable into the pronunciation of variegated. Variegated is mostly used as an adjective to describe multi coloured leaves on plants. Excellent trivia quiz, well done. My father gave me an Oxford English dictionary when I turned ten explaining I should try to learn a new word every day. Have you seen Blackadder The Third Johnson's Dictionary?

    25/26. Mixed up turbid and turgid. I also had not seen quotidian before but process of elimination proved to be in my favor. This was a good one. Thank you. 😊

      I did the same (exactly) and got the same final score. Btw, turgid ('a swollen and fast-moving river') could also have applied. So I'm giving myself 26/26 and you as well - high five!

    Just to throw it out there, this would be much better with a little etymology and maybe some common cognates that use the same roots. Help broaden the understanding. Maybe help with other words. Or, at least, help file them away and remember them.

      I've had an extensive vocabulary for many years. But I'm in my 60s now and as my friends leave this mortal plain I have fewer occasions in which I can use my entire vocabulary. 😢
