Curious to hear details about how a 5% return in May results in an average 9% return in June. Are you using SPX or SPY? I ask because SPY was up 5.05% while SPX was up 4.80% (unless I fat fingered a number). Also, SPY goes back to 1993 while SPX goes back to 1957 in its current form and 1927 in its original form of 233 companies. The claim of 5% to 9% is pretty incredible so having some details would be interesting, like how many times has this actually happened. Thanks for your consideration.

Options. Its all about the options. It would have taken a terrible report for the market to sell off. There simply wasn't enough puts to balance out the calls so the market wanted to drift up. As for the Summer I suspect we will see a lot more volatility in tech as the market broadens out. That will look like the broader market going up while the big mega caps actually sell off a bit or trade more sideways than the general market. If the Fed gives us a rate cut mid Summer or early Fall that would be great. My fear with tech is that many of them are riding on the coattails of the earnings others are showing. The main winners meanwhile have p/e ratios that are incredibly stretched. Usually that is a recipe for pullbacks in time of one sort or another. In case people dont understand the market in April kind of gave it away. NVDA went down while the rest of the market was mostly going up. That was people selling out of NVDA to invest into the rest. That is the plan for just before rate cuts to just after rate cuts. When it looked like they jumped the gun a bit they hustled back into NVDA and the rest of the market sold off. So what do you think will happen when we finally get a few weeks out from a rate cut? My guess is NVDA sells off hard and a significant amount of the market goes up at the same time. I could easily see Nvidia doing just fine, but the stock dropping 20-30% later in the year simply because people have to sell to cover taxes, decide to rebalance, or they to pay bills. It might not even be a case of people wanting to sell it so much as they are so concentrated that they dont want to become even less diversified. Im not saying it will drop 20-30% from here. Rather it will drop 20-30% from where it gets to over the next few months. That could mean it goes up another 5-10% and then has that sell off. When that selloff happens it will mean being set back like that time never happened. My plan for the next few months is to sit out of tech for the most part and get back in possibly in the Fall. I will allocate my capital into more mature companies with decent cash flow that will jump up when a rate cut comes, but aren't in danger of failing if the rate cuts are delayed. If the rate cuts happen this stuff will go up. I will sell some and move some back over to tech. If the market crashes due to Fed failing to cut in time I will be fine. If the tech continues to rally from here I will miss out a bit but I already did well this year and wont be upset. I fully expect that there will be a broad market pullback at some point over the next 12 months and that pullback will be even more concentrated in tech. NVDA may be stretched a bit, but a lot of the other tech companies really dont deserve the prices they are at right now. Anyway best of luck with your trades.

One thing I'd like to mention as far as NVDA is that the first red candle that you are comparing it to has significantly more volume behind it and was from over 20 days after the market digested their earnings. This time we have decreasing volume on the pull back looking for its first daily higher low post earnings leading into the split catalyst. Im not looking bearish personally until we get a daily trend change back to the bears or get a blow off top with volume to indicate it. That's just ny two cents. May '24 GSPC returned 4.8%. When May returns 4.8% or more in May then median, mean June Return: 1.2%. Positive 5/6.
