I would also suggest getting the old Coleman stoves that can burn unleaded gasoline. If they are very old, they might even say leaded gas. Of course, that is not for sale anymore and is bad for you. But gasoline is available everywhere, and when it goes bad, it might not work well for a vehicle but will work in those old stoves. I just rebuilt three of them: single, double, and triple burners. Also, the butane is so much better if used indoors, use those old Coleman stoves outdoors only. People like the propane and butane stoves so you might find the older ones for cheap. Got mine for about $6 each. That looks tasty as well!

Those butane stoves are excellent! Everyone should have one and a case of bottles, just in case. I feel the same way about the metal hurricane lamps and lanterns that burn lamp oil. Both (lamps and stove) are bomb proof, easy, simple and safe to use once you learn, provided you have and use common sense. In addition to lamp oil, It's nice to have a spare wick and globe for the lanterns. I think these are two of the most valued pieces of my grid down prepping gear.
    TY Granny.

I’m not a fan of canned soups. First many world societies exist on single burner cook tops like your stove. We have a 4 burner electric but generally only use one. Talk about a waste of space. We might use the oven twice a month. One of my favorite one pot meals is pork chops cooked in tomato sauce with real rice that is steamed in that tomato sauce. It comes out much like your recipe. Steamed rice in tomato sauce with garlic and basil is incredible.

I have a butane stove for emergencies, but have never had to use it yet. I got mine from a restaurant wholesaler for outdoor catering. I don't have fuel but plan to get some to try it out this summer I hear you can get about 5 hours from one canister. Do you have all your windows and doors open (with bug screens of course) so there is no issue with CO2? Do you have a detector? That's the other concern I have. I've heard that Avon Skin so Soft repels mosquitos too...

AG, when I cook rice I bring the liquid to a full boil, stir in the rice, cover with a lid and turn off the burner completely. After 15 to 20 minutes the rice is cooked and just needs a little fluffing up. Perhaps this would work for your recipe, saving some gas and no stirring necessary.
