Best vocalist of the 20th and 21st centuries par excellence. Amazing song writers and performer from Genesis to solo career. I love early Genesis, grew up on that wonderful music. As much as I love Peter Gabriel era Genesis, Peter really came to his fore as a solo artist and I'm happy to say and glad to see that he's still performing, at last! I mean, what creative genius such as Peter Gabriel could handle someone as controlling as Tony Banks for as long as he did. No wonder he walked right out of the machinerie. One of the best singer songwriters of the 20th and 21st centuries bar none. Thank PG tips for all your music and insight into the human condition. A pleasure and an honour to have walked upon this earth at the same time as great souls such as yourself 🌍 🎸 🎤 🎶 ✌🏼 ❤️ 🎶 🥁 🎹 🎤 🌟 🎶 Oh... and Peter started out as a drummer 🥁 🥁 🥁
I'm a teacher moving towards the end of my career. This song has ripped me to pieces for years because it reminds me of too many broken kids that I've taught. A beautiful performance..Really true to the original....
Every child you taught owes you a lot. But they don’t know yet. You have done yours all these years. Each of your hours as a teacher was a great gift. You should be proud of yourself. Wish you all the best.
Powerful storytelling, beautifully played. Amazing how well Peter can still perform this as it's a really difficult song to sing. And Tony Levin's contribution on bass guitar is simply mesmerising. My favoutie PG-song, this can still move me to tears.
I saw this version live in Amsterdam in 2013. It moved me to tears! The song always did, from the moment I bought the album back in 1980 and the gig later that year in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
I can still vividly remember the very first time I heard this song at Hammersmith Odeon, London. Peter played the gig ahead of the release of the third album, because of some contractual glitch. It absolutely floored me and I said then that it would be the song of the album. And what a groundbreaking album it was.
I remember being at this show and realizing how special it was, like how it would be seen as one of his best, just for the musicianship and the simple but powerful visuals.
I will never be grateful enough to Life to be contemporary with these people ...
3:55 this actually brought a tear to my eye. "Come back mum and dad, you're growing apart you know that I'm growing up sad....." perhaps have a listen from 3:25
With all the talk about motives and this and that over the past two days, I think more people need to listen to these words that Peter wrote 45 years ago. Maybe it's as simple an explanation as we're going to get.
Holy fu*#ing shit!!! 🤟🤟🤟He still fu*#ing rockZ... and look at Manu Katche!!! I'm not leaving out Tony Levin, either... still amazing. Actually, better than ever 😆😆😆☕🥁🥁🥁🎼🎼🎼🌌🚬
What a true lyric God he is. Only Peter Gabriel could put us truly inside the head of Lee Harvey Oswald as he shot J F Kennedy. The finest songwriter ever!
It's actually taken from the book "An Assassin's Diary" by Arthur Bremer, who shot and tried to assassinate George Wallace after determining that he would never be able to assassinate Richard Nixon. Many of the lyrics are either taken from or inspired by his writing.

Great and true observations Martin
Peter Gabriel still sounds phenomenal live.
I like Davids high pitch voice in the background so much.

Tony just glides effortlessly over the bass like water over pebbles
Peter is always a GENIUS :-)
One of his best songs IMO, such a tragic narrative and powerful composition ❤

I was there, alive in London. Couldn't see fuck all because some twat sold me a seat positioned behind the PA.
I see you. Top right, stage right, all wrong.
