  • Col de Larche is a beautiful and very popular mountain pass, which is normally only climbed from the Italian side (Colle della Maddalena). The climb from France is also very beautiful. It has some very attractive characteristics, such as very few cars, new asphalt, a balcony road, charming villages, and a great ending with views of the stunning Mercantour National Park. The only problem is that it is forbidden for cyclists. Authorities have simply made this climb off-limits to cyclists due to the higher risk of landslides and falling stones. Nonetheless, Strava is full of cyclists attempting this ride. And the rumor has it, that local police have several cycling enthusiasts that ride it themselves. But with this ride in our library, you can ride it with no risk. It is a perfect ride for the beginner or intermediate rider. Or anyone that wants to do a climb that is not too difficult but very beautiful.
You can find the route on Strava: / strava

    Just add music:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is outstanding. But with music, opinions are very mixed. So we have added no music. Instead, we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute UA-cam and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, UA-cam, etc…) and pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride... We have left the original sound of the ride out. This is because the noise from passing cars, vibrations from the road, wind, and the rider's breathing drowns the natural sound of the surroundings.
    Terms of use:

Lovely ride but I couldn't see any potential danger or any balcony section. Might just be me but there wasn't even any sheer rock wall sides, overhangs or tunnels.

It is a good question why this ride has been made off-limit for cyclists. It could be the segment five minutes into the ride...

@@BiketheWorld possibly. Do you mean where you can see the road cut in hillside across and then you go up valley, hairpin right and come along to it? Nothing like Col du Chaussy

Col du Chaussy is amazing. Why this ride is off-limits for cyclists and Chaussy is not, requires expert knowledge. The segment five minutes into the ride is just a guess.

The danger come from the fact that the road is way too easy : Its the road that all the trucks take to go from France to Italy.

Nice footage! I must admit it seems fast, if not unrealistically fast. As for the cause: Certainly, you have filmed these from a car, fair enough. Yet, I feel unable to set it right. Of course, I tried lowering the play speed. But if I adjust it down to a fair speed (0.5x - 0.75x), the frame rate bothers me, everything becomes rough. Maybe you can film them in high fps so that even at low play speed it is a smooth experience to watch?

Glad you like the footage. Our ride along videos follow the speed of a Strava KOM rider. So it is not unrealistically fast. Most of subscribers prefer this speed. But I do understand if you want to ride at your own speed and that is why we have built our app Open Road (Read more in the description). It is designed to accommodate various ride speeds without the issues you mention.

@@BiketheWorld I see, thanks for the heads-up! Seems I am far from a KOM rider, and my impression of 'typical' speeds has developed likewise... :D

@@pflichtprogramm1 No worries, many like to ride along a KOM rider... It makes the ride more energitic.. For those that wants to ride at ther own speed we hav developed our app Open Road.
