33:31 Hey, we know that guy!
See you in San Diego!
3:17 Actually a single H on German license plates means it's registred in Hannover, not Hamburg.
Cars registred in Hamburg instead starts with HH which is short for Hansestadt Hamburg.
The Volkswagen Transporter/Multivans are made in Hannover, so it's very likely that the Buzz is made in the same factory.
In Hamburg the VW Group only have a small MAN Diesel & Turbo SE plant, manufacturing components. They don't assemble any cars in Hamburg.
Who wants to see an Out of Spec Motoring roadtrip in the ID Buzz? I know I do!
Excellent idea
Road trip to Kiev!!!
@@6.5x55 probably not the best idea at the moment
How can VW make a box look so good? Nobody else gets close!
Citroen Picasso
Nissan Cube
Jeep cherokee xj
The Buzz is manufactured in Hannover (“H” on the licence plate), not in Hamburg (“HH”).
The H on the license plate does not stand for Hamburg, it stands for Hanover. HH is Hamburg. And the plant is in Hanover.
Whoops! Thank you. Still learning all of the areas the letters stand for 😊
@@KyleConner Hansestadt Hamburg same for Bremen and Lübeck
Well, I guess that changes everything. Now I’m reconsidering the purchase.
It sure is not hi Hitler, laugh out loud
The whole video, I had a great big smile on MY face! I’ve no doubt my smile would be way bigger driving the Buzz.
I had a 1967 VW Bus when I was in college in San Francisco in the late 70s. It was not fast, nor powerful. But I sure had some good times in that 😉!
I may not be able to wait for the Buzz to come to the US. I may have to go to Europe and rent one for a road trip there! But when they come here, I’ll be in line! White and blue, just like my old Bus.
Thanks for a great video, Kyle!
In the US and I would prefer the option to buy the Euro Spec sized vehicle. Its the size I would like. We never use our 3rd row in our minivan right now. also a more manageable length vehicle. Would be awesome to option the size.
We are getting 3 in the UK. Short, long, and cargo. Many reviews seem to not realise this. Yeah I think it's a huge shame you aren't getting the smaller in the US.
I'd like one the size of a bmw x1 or x3 which is around 180 inches long.
@@JohnnyZenith let’s pray the uk long wheel base uses the same seat system as the T7 Multivan or earlier caravelle seat rail system. Being able to take seats out easily, slide them around etc etc would make this vehicle perfect. Front swivel seats are also a must. Let’s hope the battery doesn’t stop such a system.
I’d like a long wheelbase, large battery, AWD version with two rows and flexible cargo/sleeping space in the back. I bet a lot of Sprinter drivers would love something like that, especially with a pop-top option (or aftermarket retrofit)
This is what I want too! I wish so much that they would bring the smaller one state side
Can't wait for it to come to Canada. My wife wants one so bad to go along side my ID4. Always loved the bus and this definitely hits the mark. Shame for the lack of armrest and cupholder in the back considering it is a road tripper. Same disappointment in my AWD Pro ID 4. Thanks for sharing your excitement.
Kyle... Loved your review - especially your joy for it. thank you. Yes, I am a huge VW Bus fan and miss my and 80s Vanagons.
I can feel your excitement all the way from Canada! I almost feel like I'm sitting in the thing with you. Super neat vehicle!!!
I love the ID Buzz and cannot wait to see the American longer wheel base model. I never really wanted a van before but this thing has me hooked. I hope that the american version has around 300+ mile range and that the price is around 60k. I would love to get my hands on one, this was an awesome video!
Europe gets the longer too.
3 mi/kwh highway (he saw over 4 in mixed driving)? If 100 kwh battery, that sounds like a nearly 300 mi range?
@@dennislyon5412 yea, and 300 mile range in something like this would be perfect (if its true that it is a 100kw battery)
Kyle, as an owner of multiple VW vans, I’ve always felt like a big part of the noise was from wind, but a lot of the sensation also comes from the echo and resonance inside that big box with lots of flat glass. Did you get any sense of the source of the noise?
Amazing! Can't wait until I get one in the US!
Thanks for sharing this video.
I ❤ the surround ambient lighting. It just makes me 😁. WANT!
It’s cool how you give all of the nerdy details in a cool way 😎
The wind noise is disappointing. As a kid who grew up being driven around in the back seat of my family's dark green 66 VW sundial camper bus, I can vividly remember the hurricaine-like wind sounds at the windows, especially the windwings, competing with the din of that little air-cooled engine giving it's all at 60 mph on the freeway. Perhaps VW is allowing a little too much nostalgia to creep in to offset the quietude of the EV drivetrain. We loved our 66 and kept it until the late 80s, it was my first car but was not up to daily commuting across LA to my first professional job so I sold it to a VW enthusiast and bought a new car. I regretted selling it then, and I still regret it to this day. Perhaps this new EV will find its way into my garage.
The H on the license plate is not Hamburg but Hannover actually. HH is Hamburg
Great review. I grew up driving in the combi and travel through Europe in one in the early 70’s. I want one of these for my grandkids.
You know, I and my husband were both REALLY excited when we saw that VW was FINALLY coming to market with a production version of this new "Micro-Bus." We are HUGE fans of the original bus, which has long been an icon in automotive history. But where that original bus was a built specifically to appeal to the masses and especially those who didn't have a lot of money to spend on car, VW has decided to make this new bus a high-end electric status symbol which will be WAY above the financial means of most people here in the U.S. If this starts with a base price of $60,000, the trim levels with all the most loved features will be $70,000 - $80,000, which is not just a shame, but it's insane! We are talking fully loaded Mercedes E Class or BMW 5 series money here. You could get a fully loaded Genesis GV80 AWD Prestige with a 3.5 twin turbo V6 for that kind of money, which just blows this vehicle away in regards to luxury appointments, power, quality and reliability. VW missed a GREAT opportunity here to make this an electric vehicle for the people, like the original was. What they are bringing to the U.S. instead, is a vehicle targeted to the upper crust with fat bank accounts, who have fond memories of the buses of their youth, but who are discerning and are going to be disappointed in the level of luxury features and quality that this ID. Buzz will offer for such a high entry price.
the one single good thing in this car is the beautiful and cool look, except that, it's an expensive piece of crap (nothing exceptional in the interior or the tech, everything is usual and cheap build plastics).
if u like the VW bus, look at the new T7 hybrid, it's a little bit more expensive than this one, but at least you get a high specs and build quality for your money!!
I think your estimated price is way too high. A fully equipped ID BUZZ costs 74000€ here in Germany which of course includes the VAT. That would translate to $60000 in the US, with a base price of $50000.
@@lorenzmuller4000 74,000€ converts to $74,989 US dollars. That would also not account for the extra cost for the AWD, dual motors and larger battery pack which will be for the U.S. model, along with the extra costs for extending the wheelbase and adding a 3rd row seat for the U.S. model, so my estimates are pretty much right in line with the current pricing and probably under-estimating the extra costs associated with the upgrades planned for the U.S. model.
@@primemoverRR Again, you forget that the European prices include the VAT which you need to deduct to get a comparable US price.
The easiest way to compare the US price to the German price is to look at existing models.
The ID4 AWD Pro starts at $46295 in the US (with everything you need already included), while in Germany you need to pay almost 65000€ to get a similar equipped ID4 GTX.
What I want to show you with this comparison is that even after deducting the VAT from the German price, the US price is still lower.
I bet if you compare retail price when they launched the original, with today's price and adjusted for inflation, the prices would be very close if not better today considering all the safety tech and drivetrain improvements.
Love it 😍👍🏽 perfect for my family!
I think the charge port is in the back to prioritize the cargo vans that would back into loading docks.
Never been excited for a new car. This is the first time in 43 years! 😍
I want this so bad! Gonna have to trade in my chevy bolt!
I can’t wait to see them rolling down the road in the US.
❤️ from Copenhagen..!
Might be a nice upgrade from my ID.3
Vw really cannot delay this launch in California even if they import them like the first batch of id4 if they delay 2 years it will be missing the market but also others will come in that time
That is the CUTEST EV I’ve ever seen!!
Greetings from the Plug-in NC team! I think I was actually in Copenhagen while this event was going on. Thanks for bringing all of us along for the ride.
Looks really fun! VW, bring the shorter version to the US! Also more cup holders for the back seat.
Why would you have a gas powered stove in an electric van? That should be inductive.
I own both an ID4 long range and a model 3 performance. I do enjoy the quietness and the ride comfort of the Id4. Feels like I'm gonna definitely enjoy the Buzz as well.
yeah and the ID4 starts at 36K.. just goes to show these larger company EV's have a lot of advantages over tesla's mover expensive vehicles sometimes! Ioniq 6 will be the sportier game changer though value wise, with a top tier interior and non bland styling.
Which do you enjoy more?
interesting you got those two together - can you share more info? which one you like more, real life experience etc
Well they are different categories of vehicles of course. One's a family friendly suv the other is a 486 HP sporty sedan.
My id4 has alcantara massage heated seats. With the help of lumbar support and much softer suspension compared to a sports sedan, both my boyfriend and I agree the id4 feels so much more comfortable.
The rwd offers 0-100kph in around 7.5s. Definitely slower than my M3p's 3.3s but enough for real world usage. Handling is not as good either except during tight space parking thanks to the surprisingly tight turning circle. It's always more practical when i need to haul stuff around. Once i had trouble putting all my 4 cats and their traveling cases inside my M3P sedan trunk.
However there are disadvantages over a tesla: software sucks, phone app sucks, no supercharger network, low effiency, slower charging speed, no tesla cam and sentry mode.
Overall i love them both. Hope it helps.
before I even start this video, I just wanna say, I dont care what the down sides of this car are, I need it. lol
Really nice looking van!
I live in Copenhagen. I wish I had heard about the event, I would have come by and seen it.
2:30 Kyle, check out Car Maniac's charging session: 108 kW at 50 % and your mentioned 95-100 kW region till 70 %.
30 min instead of 36 min with the GTX should have given you a hint! 😉
I want one!
Hahaha "the massage seats sucks off" 42:04. If only it did right? I could drive this thing all day
Greetings from Scotland. Enjoy your reviews. Bloody good channel. OK I'll buzz off now.
I hope this perfect size Buzz would also be offered in America
The rear view mirror seems amazingly high.
Which is great for tal drivers
Yes, please make a video on the cargo version.
No opening rear windows? Very expensive. £56k for the base model I believe with 250 mile range.
For this price I'd want at least 300 miles and opening windows for the second row passengers.
Was waiting for this one, I love this van and I am not really sure why because I don't care for the OG van. Wish they would just ship the smaller one to the US and not extend it.
The plates are registered in Hanover not Hamburg. The license plate code for Hamburg is HH.
Patented Camping box? Good luck with that. I have had mine in my car for years.... :D
If they make in TN with US batteries it’ll sell otherwise it’ll be too much for too little. Let’s hope she gets quieter. Black lower with smoke color top that matches window tint would be an awesome look. 💯
With how zippy it seems to be, I can't wait until drivers in Costa Rica and what not do with them lol. They make those diesel/gas mini buses feel quick and at times, scary.
FINALLY… do they have a “buy in Germany and ship home” program?
Dang, I want one of those. I wish they would sell them in the US!
I have a Eurovan MV, and its tailgate is the width of the van--67".
The License Plate H indicates manufacturing in Hanover. The Hamburg License Plate Is HH for Hanseatic City Hamburg>
I guess, the rear center arm rest would be an option, maybe locked to a trim level or a premium package or anything.
Maybe they have it by chance in another review ;-)
This car is so new, there would not have been any detailed information out when you were driving it.
But another UA-camr was test driving another car and said, oh it's a bummer, it does not have a rear center arm rest, so he does not like that car. (Mr. "Newland" on the e-C4 back then).
Well, of course they have it, just in another trim level, even with cup holders - in the e-C4, already at that time. He was testing the basic version... And the car was already out for some months, he could have looked it up easily.
But as I mentioned, the configurations surely were not released for the buzz when you were testing it. Maybe someone from VW could have answered that at or after the event.
And I really would guess that the ID buzz would have an option to get a rear center arm rest, maybe with cup holders. It would really be weird if they don't have that.
----------
But the charge ports in the rear sliding doors of the "buzz" are not ideal. You also mentioned that.
Maybe the idea was that the car is so wide, that charge ports in the door could be more convenient than in the center. That's the only thing I could imagine why someone would put the charge ports on the sides and not in the center. Yes and no, but the sliding doors would pull the cables as you mentioned it ...
Maybe having charge ports in the sides (behind those doors) makes sense for the third row that might be accessible through that same door with the seats of the second row tilted forward - for the long version. Typically the seats could be removed and charge ports in the sides would not require a rear center console for the third row which would take up space even with the seats removed.
But for the second row, charge ports in the rear end of the center console between the first row seats would be way better than in the sliding doors.
Missed an opportunity! Should have had Kyle Smile stickers and placed them over all the smiley faces.
Looks as comfortable as an ikea sofa
The plant is in Hannover and that is what the H stands for on the number plate. The forbidden city of Hamburg got HH on the plate (hanseatic city of Hamburg).
I want one, but price might be a bit steep. It was funny to see Jack from Fully Charged driving another in your video having recently watched his.
Happy that there is no glass roof.
I've got a full spec Style" on order and so excited, just a few minor disappointments that could have made it so special. No sunroof, kids love looking out at the stars or planes going overhead, also adds to the sense of space and light in the cabin. No vents or armrest for the second row is a big disappointment. Add that to only a 77KW battery and no dual motor mean will have to change and upgrade as soon as all these become an option...........Still we can't wait for delivery day, just hope sooner rather than later!!
the "H" on the license plate does NOT stand for "Hamburg" but for "Hannover". Hamburg license plate numbers carry "HH"
Finally!!!
Hoping the US spec model comes with overhead storage bin and swivel front seats
I think Kyle is high throughout most of this video. Lol.
So no need any key or starting button,,car just massage seat working!? Wow. How clever
I think that in Europe the fast charging is not as important. Distances are shorter and people drive a lot less than in USA. Also most households have 220v in three phases, meaning it’s easy to utilise AC charging.
07:00 Is possible they meant it to be pronounced like the German name for the cuckoo, "Kuckuck", which sounds like 'cook-cook'. As it's made for cooking ... 🤔😁😎👍
32:15 Volkswagen knows the state of the roads in North America. 😉
No rear vents and no rear operable windows is a deal breaker here in the south. WTF, VW? USA version needs to have these.
You talk about the speedlimit on the highway, but drive 80 kmh in the city is insane limit is 50 kmh.
I think I'm gonna buy one without even driving it first :)
I think I know that guy who programmed the driving route.
That's 'Jack' from FCS.
New EV released...
Kyle: I think I need one!
This reminds me of a Mazda 5.
They really went off from the concept version. With electric vehicles they have a chance to stick really close to the concept if the safety requirements was in check 😭 I feel more people would get into ev’s if they stayed close to the concepts
I am IMPATIENT!
To get ID Buzz in the U.S.
My dreams of living out of a van are beginning to formulate... :p I wouldn't mind seeing the hatchback actually being two sections with a lower tailgate and the larger regular hatchback.
What happened? I was looking for your first drive video yesterday when all the other ones were out but I couldn't find it. Glad to see your video though!
my wife will have the aqua/blue color. That is the one to get :)
Great video Kyle, shame about the wind noise. Just really disappointing that VW are not using the seat rail system like in their other vans and in the Buzz prototype. This would provide so much more flexibility for use. Seats could slide further to the back to provide more space in the middle of the rear area for day van activities. Front seats also need to swivel. I hope some of this will be available in later variants. Thanks again for great content.
Funny how you don't like a bunch of stuff, but are so stoked to drive it that it all sounds positive anyways. Sounds like you enjoy retaining invites from manufacturers to review their products. A fine line to walk I guess since that is your job. In these types of reviews I pay attention to any criticism over any hype or feelings because I know you have a job to do and you try to keep things positive. Batteries must not be very good if they keep more than 10% off limits and don't allow very high fast charge or for a very long period. That will need to be improved for the US model.
:p You missed the fold out trailer hitch.
Cuando esta previsto la venta para ecuador, y cuanto cuesta, es una excelente propuesta amigable con la naturaleza
I'm confused by charging port location comments. Are you suggesting that people can't back up to a charging station?
Overall good video, but a little long. Hopefully, VW will address the noise with dual glass and sound insulation.
VW ID Buzz would be a good Uber car service ride.
I would like to see Winnebago take these and do an RV conversion
Me want one!!!🤤🤤
Great video, seems to be a very nice car with a few details not too great but maybe fixable. But definitively, charging port should have been on the rear left side, not on the right side, and definitively not in front ! Snowy roads, salt, freezing rain making the front covered with ice, not thanks. Yes, I am driving in winter Norway with CCS in front and talk by experience.
And really nice pockets on the rear front seats to forget your phone in !
Weren't Ford Transit Connects imported to the US with rear passenger seats to dodge that chicken tax, and the seats taken out once in the US and sold as the van it was intended to be?
Anyway, if those rear Buzz seats are comfortable I'd be happy with it - assuming that tray can hold a full cup and got used to the usbc door placement. I like the simplicity and am ok with lack of rear rests. I'm sure there will be an upspecced luxo version with fancier rear comfort at some stage.
No center armrest means rear passengers can not relax and be comfortable on long trips, which this bus is designed to do. VW what are you thinking of, missing this important detail!
I'll take a smaller version of this. Make it the size of a bmw x1 and I'm all in.
Give me this..., but make it the long wheelbase version, with a rear engine 2.0 litre turbo (like the one in my Passat), Syncro drivetrain, give a 5 spd manual transmission, sunroof, dual sliding doors with split window sliders (like on my Micro Bus/Vanagons). Thank you...Did anyone pick up on how much i miss my Vanagons...RWDs and Syncros!
This thing would also be awesome if it could use the Tesla charging network
Hmm maybe I missed it - did you do the memorise parking test ie Park Assist Plus with Memory Function?
It is pretty common for minivans to be rather noisy sadly. I hear it is mainly due to big doors
The front of the buzz has some resemblance to Kyle 😂
Can tell you never drove the original VW bus. What you call semi slow acceleration would be like a rocket in comparison. The 'neet' hand hold straps in the back and the hand hold I see over the driver's door is straight out of the original bus. I have a 71 Westfalla camper I would love to get working again. To bad they do not have a Westfalla version of the buz
Our ID.4 Pro (cloth seats) is also lacking a rear arm rest....such a strange omission by VW.
ID Buzz Nurgurgring? Yes please?
I saw another review that mentioned the rear passenger windows don’t roll down! Is this the case? 😦
Did you ID the nice looking white station wagon in the background during some of your shots?
