Terri Utley showed extreme class and sportsmanship and affection in crowning the New Miss USA, especially at the end where she affectionately caressed the winner's chin. Such a lovely, classy lady!

Yes Lisa would have made a fabulous Miss USA, but Julie in my book is one of all time sexiest Miss USAs She looks like she could be a Charlie's Angel. The judges made a great choice. The girls in the back looked pretty darn excited when Texas was called as 1st runner up. Thank you
She Was One of the Best Ms USA Winner
Based on this Ms USA pageant, i thought Julie was the best of them all - very stunning! The runner up seemed much older for her age. I know this is years back but I want to say my little piece too......lol. At Ms Universe, I feel that due to the fact there was only one interview in which NZ was the first one up - it was the perfect interview back then - answered and spoke well in her interview, then to round it off by thanking the people of St Louise for the warm hospitality - this have warmed up to the judges and kept her in the running right to the very end. I feel if there was to be another interview question for the top 5, Ms USA could possibly have taken home the crown, but not to be. So the momentum stayed with Ms NZ, Lorraine Downes! - she deserved it!
Facially NZ didn’t deserve it..
Miss California was the clear winner here. Miss Texas unfortunately to me looked older than her years, and her hair and dress were extremely conservative.

I agree. Miss Texas looked like a pioneer woman.

I agree, she was much more prettiest than Miss New Zealand, but to be honest, Miss New Zealand was really beautiful when she finished her reign, beautiful.
agree, but if she won her 1st runner up (Texas) will be the Miss USA 1983 and Miss Texas is not beautiful, she looks like an old women tbh.
Again, why is it that there is always some inside information? Again, could it be that the judges or at least a majority of them liked Julie Hayek better? Everyone is always going to feel that someone else should have won in place of the winner. Nothing against Lisa Allred b/c she came across as a likeable person and genuine and down to earth.

I worked with Lisa and know the "real story" as to why she was 1st runner up and not the winner as she should have been. Lisa is an AMAZING woman and so down to earth; she would have been a FABULOUS Miss USA! :)

@@virginiaalvarez9651 I can appreciate your opinion, but Lisa (Miss Texas) won the Miss Amity award that year which was the equivalent to a Most Beautiful award.

@@BillMichel I agree in the scores, but the crown went on to Miss California. In Miss USA and Miss Universe anything can happen, in 1978 Miss USA Judy Andersen was first in the top 5 and Miss South Africa Margaret Gardiner Fourth, and Miss SA took the crown. Similar in Miss USA 1992, Miss California Shannon Marketic was Third in the top 3 and Miss South Carolina First, and finally Miss California took the crown. I think Miss Texas was pretty, but she looked 40 and Miss California looked sexy, taller and elegant.
@@BillMichel Miss Amity is the same as Miss Congeniality! It means that she was picked as the friendliest by the other contestants. It has nothing to so with who wins the pageant. And Miss Amity was NOT won by Texas, it was won by Miss Iowa.
If Texas looked like she did at Miss World, Julie may not have come away with the crown. Lisa Allred looked amazing at Miss World...she looked anything but matronly like she did at Miss USA...

Texas at Miss World just came in 7th place, actually she was elegant and pretty but again she looked 40 !!!!
Score wise Texas was leading in the preliminaries and the finals with California coming in second. In the end she had an upset victory over Texas and won the title. History will repeat itself at MU when California herself was leading the contest with New Zealand pulling an upset victory.
California was the clear winner here... I preferred Texas overall...but I get this... Texas got it done at Miss World.. IMO

Only in 89 should of Texas won that crown. 85 New Mexico 86 Ohio 87 Florida 88 Georgia. Rigged.
Yes, they more then made up for the successive first runner up placements lol. As a matter of fact, some states struggle to even place but Texas places consistently high in the pageant! Just incredible how the Texas organization was back then!
@@jessestewart169I would’ve prefer New Mexico to win in 1985, Arizona to win in 1987. Louisiana could’ve also won in 1989. Texas 86 and 88 were pretty beautiful. It would’ve been nice if Halle won in 1986 but I don’t think she would’ve been able to place second at Miss Universe, let alone defeat Venezuela’s Barbara. As for Courtney Gibbs, although she only placed top 10 at Miss Universe, she has beautiful eyes and I can’t remember the other top 5 finalists looking more beautiful than her.

Honestly, she was outshined by canada and guam and greece as well.
Terri was lucky she made Top 5 at MU. The scoring error kept her in and knocked South Africa out.
Terri is an amazing lady, but Canada and South Africa were better. Still...not a dig, because Terri is great!
