I was halfway in when I decided this is one of if not the best performances and duets I’ve ever seen. Hands down. Very nice job and I hope to see you two up with the greats!
101% agreed! I’ve seen my fair share of marimba duets, but none are as cool as this! Somehow I’ve never seen a duet performed with one person in front of the marimba like this. Hope to see more!!
At first, I thought it was just one guy standing in diff areas of the frame performing both parts, with some mad editing and splicing skills😂 Great performance!🙌🏼
My All-time favorite duet. Not only because it's a fantastic piece overall, but just because of my personal connection with the piece. I wish I did it my senior year instead of my junior year, but that's okay. I don't think I'll be able to top this.
I've been using this recording to play along to almost constantly this summer. Every other day I'm running the piece and it's a difficult one for me and my experience, but you guys make it sound worth it to keep it going. The reverb is satisfying and the phrasing and tempo is all in a great place and I haven't gotten tired of the recording yet after maybe 100 plays or more rewinding and replaying in spots to get everything right when I don't read music as confidently as I listen. Thanks for keeping me in the game to finish this piece for my senior recital next year! I hope the both of you continue playing wonderful things in the future!
Ivan Trevino's compositions are some of my favorites, especially this one and Catching Shadows, but they definitely scare me a little lol. I could never master Stevens grip and hand independence well enough for them. Great job you two!
part of me believes he wrote this because he found out he was going to have a child. There's a lot of wonder to this piece, and a lot of heart and soul within it's chordal structure.
Out of all performances on UA-cam, I love this one the best! Excellent job! My friend and I just got the sheet music, so hopefully we will be able to play it eventually!
Good job! But watch for the transition from the 16th note poly rhythm spot into 2:15. And at the seventeplet spot watch for staying together. But other than that great phrasing and splits
Jonah Schertz The specific model numbers are in the description, but they were Van Sice mallets. Don't feel like you have to use these to get the best sound, but they are certainly an option if you are unsure about what to use!
Jonah Schertz if it helps, the Innovative Percussion Soloist Series are nearly identical in design to the Van Sice's (except the color) and because they're not a signature they cost less
Jon Largent Jon Largent Yup! I'm an audio engineer so I couldn't help but tweak it for fun haha. I think the reverb I used was from Altiverb. You should check out the See Ya Thursday video I recorded for a player named Kevin Thompson. That was probably the best tone I've recorded from a marimba.
Nah! Stevens feels pretty good once you get used to it. I wouldn’t say our technique was amazing though haha. We both marched quads in drum corps so our hands were pretty brutalized ahead of time 😂. This tune was more of a lesson in mapping out dynamic shaping ahead of time, and making intuitive joint decisions in the moment.
Im curious as to how you learned this, did you learn your part the proper way on marimba and then flip the marimba around or did you learn it starting with the marimba turned around? Also this it my absolute favorite performance of this piece. May I ask what marimba that was if you remember?
They are dressed to match their mallets.
I love when I match my mallets

Great work, guys. Super proud of both of you!
My All-time favorite duet.

This piece gives me a feeling of peak life, just absolutely living it all at the top of happiness and clarity

Travis Strong Glad this video helped!
I completely agree. I cannot stop listening to it! I think it's better than the example video Ivan chose for his website
コマーシャルもないし、繊細なお二人のマリンバを堪能できる。ありがとうございます。
「2+1」で一番好きなマリンバ演奏動画です。素晴らしい!
what a nice visual effect. matching clothes and you look like twins. great planning.

if you practice enough you can do anythinf
Don’t sleep on burton grip!! I’ve played two of Ivan’s pieces with burton grip and with enough practice they came out great :)))
You can play any piece with any grip. They all have their pros and cons but overall it doesn´t matter what you use.
Very nice work, gentlemen. Just an absolutely outstanding performance. Keep it up!
Much appreciated, Grant!
Beautiful piece and gorgeous timing and feel.
So enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this. Bravo and all the best to both of you.
Absolutely LOVED it. Also, reverb is out of bounds! 5 of 5 ⭐️ BRAVO 👏👏👏👏👏
That was terrific.
Fantastic use of dynamics, and solidly locked into those rhythms.
Ivan Trevino just came to our school today with escape 10 a percussion duet and he was explaining the reason he wrote this and why the name is 2+1
and it was really beautiful
why? whats the reason? :0
part of me believes he wrote this because he found out he was going to have a child. There's a lot of wonder to this piece, and a lot of heart and soul within it's chordal structure.
Chris nunez explain the reason now I really really want to know the reason.
Elijah Pretty sure because at the time his wife was about to have a baby so it would be +1 more human
Really enjoy watching you two guys play this. Really nice touch on the instrument
Incredible performance!
Love the performance, it's great to play along with too!
Asa Radcliffe Thanks!
My friend in middle school is doing this song with our band director and it sounds amazing i want to be able to do that now
they must be a middle school prodigy.
Such a beautiful piece. Nicely played!
5:02 The high notes are piercing at first, but then the lower frequencies come in and it sounds really cool.
This is a great Christmas present
Im not sure how you go so much reverb but i like it
Magnifique...
This should have 1 million views! So underrated
I love your attention to detail! Nice work guys! Respect!
so beautiful 😭
just amazing
great piece and solid work, thank you.
고맙습니다
Best part of this piece is 1:34 and going forward from their it’s so easy to listen to
Lame opinion
Impressive production, both video and audio
Such a beautiful piece. Great work. 👏👏👏
me encanta saludos desde argentina muy buena interpretacion 👍
This is fantastic - I was so moved listening to it!
I love it. I love Ivans work and I love how you guys played it....
Out of all performances on UA-cam, I love this one the best! Excellent job! My friend and I just got the sheet music, so hopefully we will be able to play it eventually!
Nice work gentlemen!
Excellent
i met Ivan Trevino today here played baila, punx, 2+1 and sharing space

this was amazing, btw

Superb. So many intricacies that would sadly be lost on the lay person, and probably quite a few lost on me as well. (forgive my lack of predicate)

What mallets did you guys choose to play with? This sounds really good and I'd like to have the best sound quality when I play it
Jonah Schertz The specific model numbers are in the description, but they were Van Sice mallets. Don't feel like you have to use these to get the best sound, but they are certainly an option if you are unsure about what to use!
Thanks! And I do have van sice mallets available I use them pretty consistently, thank you
Jonah Schertz if it helps, the Innovative Percussion Soloist Series are nearly identical in design to the Van Sice's (except the color) and because they're not a signature they cost less
Was there reverb added to the marimba? The tone is amazing. Great playing

I will check it out. Marimba with reverb might be one of my all time favorite tones now haha. Great work!
The first thing I thought...."Man, that tone is amazing!"
1:44 this is like the wii menu theme but dramatic
Do you think this could be played on a 4.3 octave?
I'm sure it could be modified to be playable on a 4.3. It might not have quite the same effect but it should still be fine and completely possible
Where can I find the sheet music for this?
Deanna Copeland You can find it on steveweissmusic.com

Woher weißt du! Eine Diode dir Wechselstrom reicht,Umwandlung in Gleichstrom und vor Verbraucher Umlenkung Volt : Watt
That's pretty good. Question question tho, what grip were you guys using?
Lune Stevens!
Stevens is fun
Your poor hands tho
I think the grip was pretty good. You guys had nice rotations

Is it possible to play this piece with a 4.5 octave marimba?
Daniel Phillip yes
anyone know if it is possible on a 4.3 octave marimba
Daniel Phillip the song can be played on a 4.5 or higher
Looks like Hvitserk from vikings playing marimba :)
Im curious as to how you learned this, did you learn your part the proper way on marimba and then flip the marimba around or did you learn it starting with the marimba turned around? Also this it my absolute favorite performance of this piece. May I ask what marimba that was if you remember?
Ashley Gilbert Glad you like it! I learned it on the opposite side straight away. I believe this marimba was a slightly old Marimba One Basso Bravo.
Is this for 5.0 or possible for 4.3?
𓆉︎𓆉︎+𓆉︎=𓆉︎𓆉︎𓆉︎
when you can only afford one marimba
2 + 1 by a guy named Tre holding four mallets made by Firth just slightly under six minutes.
Chicken was good but the bread was dry
