T Rex were amazing for their B sides , Get It On B side was Raw Ramp/There Was A Time absolutely brilliant. Telegram Sam has Cadillac and Baby Strange . Metal Guru has the brilliant Thunderwing and Lady. 🌟
Hi Chris, I love 45s. “Penny Lane” is one of my first childhood memories along with Topol singing “if I were a rich man”. I was born in 1964 and I think both came out in early 1967. I remember my mum singing along to them on the radio ☺️ looking forward to your next video 👍
Awesome, this brought back a lot of memories. Back in about 1981 there was a ska band here in Vancouver called the B-Sides. My favourite b-side is Zeppelin's Hey, Hey, What Can I Do. It's definitely one of my top 5 songs by them. The a-side is Immigrant Song. It wasn't on any of their proper albums. Cheers, great video
Great show again. I knew you would not miss all the Sweet singles. Many are compiled on the studio disc from the 1975 2-LP "Strung Up". The other disc is live. I may have said before but I took my then girlfriend to see them at Bolton Navada (sic) a large roller skating rink, infamous throughout Lancashire, in mid-1971 just after Funny Funny was a hit and Coco was riding high. Expecting much more of the same, I was pleasantly blown away by a heavy sound more akin to Hendrix and Cream from a wall of brand new bright Orange amps. In the same vein wrt different genre B-sides. check out the singles from Dave Dee, Dozy, Mick and Tich. The flips are all superb psych freakbeat cuts. Legend of Xanadu and Last Night in Soho are themselves great records, but listen to the b-side of Zabadak, "The Sun Goes Down" and others from the late 60's.
Hi Chris another wonderful video with another fantastic topic loved this one you ask at the end to name a few favorites so here goes THE SPECiALS GHOST TOWN two fantastic b-sides Friday night/Saturday morning and why both excellent tracks almost as good as the a side THE JAM A TOWN CALLED MALICE the b side precious was in my humble opinion better than the a side how about THE UNDERTONES MARS BARS a great underrated song never much listened to the b side of jimmy jimmy those are a couple of my favourites off the top of my head thanks again for another joyous video have a wonderful rest of your week STEVE
A few glaring omissions Chris I have to say... The Butterfly Collector, Tales From The Riverbank, Dreams Of Children'by The Jam It's Getting Late In The Evening by Talk Talk Dear God by XTC Acquiesce by Oasis Fools Gold by The Stone Roses Hound Dog by Elvis Don't Let Me Down, I Am The Walrus & Rain by The Beatles...
Hi Chris, another great selection to showcase your video. The Motors you beat the hell out of me is excellent. Very sad news about the passing of Paul Di'Anno.
Hi Chris. You really made a good case in favour of collecting singles. So many gems hidden on the B-sides. Lots of my favourites there. Coincidently I was listening yo Lulu's version of "the man who sold the world" earlier today. It has "watch that man" on the B-side. One of my favourite B-sides is Otway and Barretts "Beware of the Flowers" Cheers Mike
Hi Chris, bit late, watching my team Middlesbrough tonight. Great video, some of them I didn't realise were b sides which really surprised me because I've got a couple of them. Sweet were a much better flip side for me, and one I played just the other day was The Crunch by The Rah Band which has part 1 and part 2 on the flip side. Great video once again cheers.
Hi Chris, I've got a lot of those, great stuff. Kept thinking he's gonna mention The Jam in a minute but no, fell into loads of categories, Smithers Jones totally different to the album version, loads of brilliant songs that you found nowhere else like Butterfly Collector. Was really disappointed when artists cheapened out by putting instrumentals then remixes on the b side. REM were the last band i remember doing it properly 👍 Cheers, enjoyed this Chris 🍻
Another great look at your 45s Two b/sides that spring to mind for me are reflections through the looking glass the b-side to Simon says from 1910 fruit company you wouldn’t think it was the same band and the b side from the monkees I’m a believer which is I’m not your stepping stone
Unfortunately Chris, I got rid of most of my early 70's singles a while ago, the one I wish I had kept was bought in a 2nd hand store in Clydebank near Glasgow, it was Genesis 'I know what I like' on the charisma label, the b side was twilight alehouse, I think it was quite a rare 45.
Rain is b side to Paperback Writer. I love you you big dummy by Magazine (b side to Give me everything) Metal Guru had both Lady , and Thunderwing on the b side.
Butterfly Collector on the B side of Strange Town.... Magazine did some great experimental and live stiff on the B sides, 20 Years Ago being a case in point. Joy Division only put out one album single (She's Lost Control) and all the other singles had great B sides
@@TheVinylOrchard Not forgetting that Dreams of Children was meant to be the A side and Going Underground the B then GU went straight to #1. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that was the first time a single entered the charts at #1 since The Beatles. Those were the days when the charts were real!
Juliet by the 4 pennies was the first b side to get to number 1. Yardbirds did some well known b sides. My favourite b sides are M Williams Classical gas, Idle Race their knocking nails into my house, Wheels Roadblock, Disturbance The Move, . Just off the cuff without thinking.
The vast majority of singles with great/good b sides seemed to me mostly from the 70s, there seemed to be a bit more thought from the artists off what to put on the reverse side,I loved buying 7inch singles in 70s/80s and turning it over to b side to see what it sounded like.
I mean, if you only ever buy one thing by a band, having its two best hits on one single is fantastic, for fans it's a cop-out. I think you should've excluded b-sides which had been a-sides.
T Rex were amazing for their B sides , Get It On B side was Raw Ramp/There Was A Time absolutely brilliant. Telegram Sam has Cadillac and Baby Strange . Metal Guru has the brilliant Thunderwing and Lady. 🌟
Really good werent they. Good value. Lovely stuff

We are a similar age (1963). I remember Fiddler musical stuff too! Cheers Andy
The B side of Mud’s TigerFeet, Mr Bagatelle is a memorabele one. Very unexpected. Great stuff. Cheers and thanks foor all your content.
Haven’t played that for years. First single I ever owned!

That LZ single wasn’t released in U.K. Not sure any were tbh. Hey Hey was on an Atlantic comp too

Great video Chris, very well thought out & structured. Agree with your comments about Paul Dianno, definitely my favourite incarnation of the band.
Ah thank you David. Really kind feedback. Cheers, Chris
The b side of Killing Jokes Wardance is Pssyche, amazing raw post punk rock
Love both those songs. A different version of "wardance" from the album. I've still got my copy. I also have their "change"/"requiem" 7".
Will check it out. Cheers, Chris
@@debroahtaylor6398 Psyche is a brilliant song, especially played loud 😁
Look forward to this … cheers
The Stranglers made a great effort on B sides
They seemed to Nick yes
@TheVinylOrchard The Clash,s B side would be worthy of your explanation and channel?
@nickwortmann566 tbh beyond their first album I’m not much of a fan
@TheVinylOrchard The b-sides got better with dub versions etc .
@@nickwortmann566 will check them out Nick

Weiss Heim as 'B' side of All Night Long is a classic.
Some wonderful playing from Blackmore for sure Roy

Out of curiosity, how many of those great b-sides were actually album tracks, rather than completely new songs? I counted a few

If the "I Think We're Alone Now" is the song I'm thinking of, it was written and recorded by Tommy James (no relation) and the Shondells.
Tommy James! That’s the fella. Cheers!
