  • In this video, I talk about my decision to change my business name from my own name, how I came up with Easy Sunday Club, and what brainstorming process you can steal from me to help you come up with your own unicorn business name.
Picking a business name when you're about to start a business can be daunting. Should you come up with a clever and cool name for your art business, or should you just use your name? What if your name is Gary Vaynerchuk and nobody can spell your last name? All the clever single and double word names seem to be taken by now, and it's a lot of pressure to make up new words as your business name. Not having the "perfect business name" should not be your excuse for NOT STARTING.

Does your name influence whether you want to use it as a business name?

My profession is graphic design, so I feel like I had already a good amount of knowledge regarding branding good practices (which btw you are spot on in your vid). Throughout design school I had to come up with so many fake business names, that I started using a "cheap trick" of looking up the etymology of the word and going for the greek/latin/whatever version, or making a name out of the first syllables/letters. For example, I'd have a Woodworking Shop, then I'd call it "Mater Woodshop" (latin for wood) or "WooSho", etc.
So when I had to brand my business, I decided to try the trick on my name. P for my first name, and Antonia for my middle name (which I like more than my first)... resulting in Pantonia. I thought it was super fitting, as it also resembles the word "Pantone", which is SO appropriate for a design/illustration/printing business :p

@@Pantonia that’s really clever and to validate your approach, I did think of Pantone when I saw your name :). This is a smart way to think of a name that will stay meaningful to you over time without actually using your name. Thanks for sharing!

For sure! My Etsy shop is opening again soon, and the name helped me get a handle on my waterprint :)

My name is Alex Girbu and I want to be a Singer, so any suggestions to mix up with something or just a fake last name idea ?
