Duncan, as someone whose childhood was defined by gaming - well done! It was great to see Griffin and where he is now, I'm going to watch those CS films right after this. Thanks so much, I know you got a steep appreciation for the place we've arrived at in competitive gaming and I will look forward to seeing Grif at the final table.
I went to college with SpaceGhost. I still remember the first time he joined one of our lan games on the college lan and he absolutely demolished us. We all thought he was cheating. I became good friends with him. I would watch him play on his computer in cal matches (Steelbreeze back then). He was so unbelievably skilled like Scream now. Just insta HS. I even made him play on my computer and he did the same shit. I was so annoyed he was so good but didn't really care much about CS and was into school more haha.
Thank you for this Thorin, being canadian and into CS since the early 1.5 days, this brought back way too many memories of the good ol' days. Great content
Beyond just being a fucking awesome interview, with great questions a great guide through the time line in addition to having the companion "Who is shaGuar", watching Thorin do an interview he clearly loves with an interviewee who responds so well has really produced probably the best Reflections video of all time. Such a great watch.
Thooorin thank you very much for this interview with my childhood idol =) I've been waiting sooo long like this an interview. (From about 2009) Hello everyone from Siberia! ;)
Thank you so much for doing these! I had no idea that these old CS pro interviews existed. It's so interesting to hear about so many small details of their gaming careers that I never would have known about.
OH MY GOD IT'S IMPORTEDNOOB THE LEGEND HIMSELF FROM GOTFRAG LMAO. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BOT THREAD LOL. IM PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE THAT REMEMBERS THIS HAHAHHA.
really cool to revisit this era, I quit playing after topping out in cal-m in 2005. Looking back, NoA was way ahead of their time. Teams pull from around the globe as a matter of course now, but NoA was the first. I can't think another example. There just wasn't money in cpl like there is today... NoA was like 6-8 years too early.
you know what would be really cool? If we could get some of the old (active or inactive) players to play in a Tournament against (and with) each othera gain (in 1.6 of course). Just for a huge trip down memory lane and to see how much they still have gotten in them in terms of skill.
I cant find a video in that page and i would love to watch it. Can you please tell me if there is one? I searched it here on youtube but i didnt find anything.
thanks Thorin... as a former cs 1.6 player (playing since early 2000) I can say shaGuar is one of the best players of all time. period. this guy was insane... a beast. Good video.
This is such a beautiful interview damn. Watch the one from 04 where he wins his cpl and then watch this and compare the two. You could tell back in 04, this man was absolutely in love with CS by the way he talked about the game. In this interview, you can def tell counter strike is long gone in the past and is just a distant memory as he alludes to many times saying all this stuff was so long ago. And wow, ten years and only touched cs once... That's crazy. Something about the way he just says he walked away from cs sounds really sad to me 😭
So glad you did this vid Thorin. I spent some time playing poker before black friday and Griffin (ShaGuar, Flush_Enitity) did a stream on twitch which was always great to watch. Not sure he still does or not. Great guy.
If I am honest, hearing about Thorin and Griffin talking about poker inspired me to learn it. If it wasnt for these two and the documentary Kid Poker I randomly watched, I would have never played the great game.
Man Shag seems like such a cool guy,it would be sick if some old 1.6 legends would come back for a CS:GO tournament in a casting or perhaps analyst role.
Thorin you seemed kinda starstruck at the beginning of the video! never seen that side of ya before! great video though i was pleasantly surprised to see this pop up
Shag, I'll never forget peaking you on train @ cpl. Cost the round and if we win that round your guys money was messed up. In the van later you had to bring it back to my attention.
Would love to see a reflections with PPD. OR some videos about TI going on right now if thats ever something that might spark your interest Thorin... EG VS EHOME game 1 tonight was a top 5 game of all time.... I know this doesn't match the content of the video but i wanted to mention it!
Ha, remember watching First Person Shooter back in the day and thinking his Dad was a moron. Being much much older now I can totally see things from his perspective. Awesome interview anyway, brought back a lot of memories.
Loved this. Had the pleasure of meeting Griffin earlier this year and playing him 1v1 at CS:GO. There's a vlog about it on my channel if anyone was interested! 😀
"Waddup now sweeds" legendary.. got owned by sk so bad so early. after all this time its nutty to see NA cs still struggling. WHY? this is interview is cool. Played in cpl early 2000's gamewyze TAU , didnt take it serious. Rambo was my favorite player . a lot of cool players from the texas florida area . im sad people dont know people like ksharp or fatality .. Me and my best friend still laugh about how we never thought how big it would get.
Cracking interview.. very nostalgic. Hope Griffin does well in the tournament. Any other big names coming up for 'Reflections' Thorin? I'd love to see one for Rambo or HeatoN. I remember you did a 'Grilled' with the latter some years back but I can't seem to find it on here.
Hey Thooorin, is the documentary you discussed anywhere on the net. I'd like to watch i?. I'm an OLDscooler also and I like all sorts of e-sport related docs since CS and TF were my life too wayy back in the days Shaq also started.
you should do reflections with method, he was playing with WaR (without a roof) for a portion of ECS, he streams at like 3AM (csgo of course) pretty sure his stream is dotheMcs or some thing like that
I remember attending the 2002 winter CPL, we didn't even know it was a byoc lan event. The pre-qualifier my team won only net $1000 split 5 ways and didn't earn us a seed in the 32 team bracket. We had to play in a single elim round to earn a spot, which we lost. It was generally a mess for us to attend being from the D.C. area, one of our guys couldn't even get permission from his parents to come with us. It was a hell of a lot of fun though. Thanks for posting this interview, brings back good memories of old school Counter-Strike.
WADDUP NOW SWEDES WOOOOOOOO
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BAYYYYYYYYYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Is he the one who says that?
+Will Payne yes
yep lol ShaGuar was so much fun to watch and root for back in the day. Glad hes doing so well for himself these days, he truly is a legend in CS.
CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE

That 2002 zex win was magic.
Still impressive when zEx as a clan made it to ESWC Grand Final back in 2002 though
This guy was my hero back in 2003 .. Thank you Thorin

There was nostalgia tournament from former 1.6/1.5 players this year.

That was awesome i love those videos about past. This was best one you made yet as shaGuar is really good at expressing yourself
If I am honest, hearing about Thorin and Griffin talking about poker inspired me to learn it. If it wasnt for these two and the documentary Kid Poker I randomly watched, I would have never played the great game.

Shag, I'll never forget peaking you on train @ cpl. Cost the round and if we win that round your guys money was messed up. In the van later you had to bring it back to my attention.
