After Paula helped Janet with the choreography with Control, I think we all were anxious for the day that Paula would do her own music. She didn't disappoint. The very first track released was Knocked Out; and, I can never get enough of that video. I think my next favorite would be Cold Hearted Snake. You can't go wrong with any of them though. Paula has always delivered great visuals.
Keep in mind Paula is a professionally trained dancer that after much torment for her height , landed a job as lead choreographer for the LA Laker Girls. So you see where the gymnast stunts fit in.
When you watch Janet, she opted to go a bit more street with her dancing after the job with Paula.

She was a “LA Laker” (NBA basketball team) cheerleader before singer/ dancer. So she’s very used to trusting people. That drop and back up to sitting position. 🤯 She stopped performing in the 90’s because of a bad car accident and rumours say she became addicted to pain killers too. But healthy bones now and dances/ choreographs a lot. If anyone saw Eddie Murphy’s film “Coming to America”. The icon dance seen before his “arranged marriage” is Paula’s choreography. Her daughter dances too. They are on TicTok a lot. Paula’s moves are so fluid and smooth. When she does TicTok videos she stands out because of that. Poetry in motion.
    👍 on Paula reaction.

Watch her "Cold Hearted" video for some of the most insane choreography you've ever seen! The male dancers did some of it, including those incredible lightning-fast, stop-on-a-dime spins, in the interlude here.

Johnny, it's hard to describe how intense the competition was for pop female vocalists in the late 80's.

The best dance performance of Paula’s is in 2019 billboard music awards medley. She just from the second floor and is caught.

The AMA's are the creation of Dick Clark of American Bandstand. The winners are voted on by the public in Rock/Pop, R&B and Country music genres.

Thank you for reacting to Paula!! She is terribly underrated. Not to mention the fact that her "Spellbound" and "Head over Heals" albums have some really great material that genuinely stand neck and neck with all of her contemporaries at the time ('91-'95 - Janet, Mariah, Kylie, Madonna etc). Paula is a trailblazer and a technical master of dance, we MUST give her, her flowers. Additionally, We fans appreciate that you didn't take the bait by comparing Paula VS Janet, there is no need. Both are Queens and have a mutual respect for one another's talent and successes. Paula is literally in the top 20 of the most successful female music artists of all time, (Check Billboards "greatest lists") and we look forward to a couple more reactions to her music and performances.
A deep dive into her Spellbound, and Head over Heels Era's would be a good start. We already know she ruled 1988-1990.

One of my favorites...she gives a good show. Yes, she does her own choreography. Her choreography resume' is quite extensive, from Janet to the movie Coming to America to Prince.

She was actually my first concert I went to when I was like 10 lol. I don’t listen to any of her music now, but she has incredibly catchy any nostalgic songs a lot like early Madonna.

"I'm missing vital choreography," lol FACTS! She began her career as a cheerleader for the LA Lakers and then their choreographer, and was discovered by the Jacksons. After choreographing Janet videos, she was signed to Virgin Records. Her album Forever Your Girl (1988) became one of the most successful debut albums at that time, selling 7 million copies in the US, setting a record for most number-one singles from a debut album on the Billboard Hot 100 chart: "Straight Up", "Forever Your Girl", "Cold Hearted", and "Opposites Attract". In truth EVERY song could have been a single, it's such a strong album. Her second album Spellbound (1991) scored two more chart-toppers - "Rush Rush" and "The Promise of a New Day". With 6 number-one singles on Hot 100, Abdul tied Diana Ross for the third-most chart-toppers among female solo artists at the time.

I had no idea she was that successful! To be fair, as a ten year old kid in the UK with very little access to music, I do remember her from the time so she must have been pretty big over here too

You should react to her music videos of (It's Just) the Way That You Love Me. Yes, there are two, both directed by David Fincher, who went on to direct Se7en and Social Network. The earlier version features more dancing, the second one looks more high class. If it went to no. 1 on the Hot 100, she would've had 7 consecutive no. 1 singles.

At the time, The American Music Awards was focused on the most popular music of all genres. Black artists were and still are at the forefront of music, so I understand why you would ask that question, and Paula was very much a member of and accepted by ALL communities at that time.
Re: Janet, her best 90's performance was of "If", from her "Janet" album and I will link it for you. It's quite amazing. DEFINITELY watch it.
When it comes to DANCE there genuinely was no better student than Janet and no better teacher than Paula. They brought TECHNIQUE and passion to Pop music.........Not just a focus on "visuals"....ua-cam.com/video/Lhrv6T-SSXU/v-deo.htmlsi=VEBcyILSHJk58C7b

Thanks. Yeah, I was just talking about the Grammys in another post on Patreon and people were telling me about how "white" they are, especially in terms of giving out the top awards. It just struck me how many black artists were on this show, but they were obviously making the best music so it makes sense

Paula didn’t dance for Janet, she choreographed for Janet during the Control era and helped her transform into who she is. Paula also choreographed for The Jacksons and has a lot of movie choreo credits as well.
