Quick note on water, as it's brought up again in the show: in ancient Rome, it was a big deal. Consider how rare clean water was. And if you knew a source, getting it was a real pain in the butt. No wonder Niobe could feel proud to offer Caesar fresh, delicious water and Caesar would be glad to accept it. The usual alternative was wine heavily diluted with boiled water to prevent drunkenness (and sickness). Imagine all your water tasting dull with just a hint of sour grapes.
Esrastes Foreman (black haired dude with the chain yelling at angry husband) is a gangster he's got legal privlliage to abuse and kill in his territory provided trade doesn't get interrrupted and he makes his bribes. Also thanks for reupload
Just enjoyed your ep10 watch through and chat, really enjoyed it. However, there was so much chat at the end about one thing that youtube _really really does not like_ on the platform-these things can be a tricky to navigate. "Illegitimi non carborundum" ;oP
Caesars archers on the right flank fired at the elephants, they got scared and ran to his left flank. They moved out of the way and the elephants crashed into the cohort behind them. They received an elephant medal for this. They attacked them, the elephants turned around and ran right into scipios line. Caesars calvary took care of the rest, took the enemy camp and the survivors all fled.
They didn't show it in the show but Cato stabbed himself in the stomach, his men found him near death and patched him up and he ripped open his stitches the next day and tore his guts out. Grizzly way to go. The people in Rome did not like seeing that shit on paintings in the streets, Caesar displayed it in his victory parade.
""Lou ish Vo Re Ne ish"" no more angry husband!...Cato and Skipeo did have a battle with Caesar in Egypt (they didnt show it) and lost, in Rome when you loose a battle, you kill yourself. The guy who got mad with Louish is basically a mafia crime boss of a certain part of Rome. Louish is a "Prefect" and even if out of the Army still has authority. The crime boss demanded an apology and Louish and Titus would have killed him if Caesar didnt show up..
Rome was a military culture. Society expected Roman men to fight, and fight until either victory or death. Rome didn't conquer the entire mediterranean basin by having invincible armies, they lost *many* battles. However, Rome _did not do surrendering_ -if armies were destroyed they raised another one and fought on until they won the war. The worst defeat of the Republic was probably the battle of Cannae, 8 legions wiped out in a day and 70,000+ men killed. The few thousand that escaped and made it back to Rome were shamed by the senate and people for not standing and fighting and dying. If victory was not going to happen then self deleshion was seen as more honourable than surrender. This is what is behind Cato & Scipio's actions, Pullo's drunken rant that woke up the street, and explains Servilia mocking her own son Brutus for coming back to Caesar.

The risk of being taken alive was too much for Cato.
