Hey, ownership of a not so perfect job is the sign of a good service. I’d hire you. Rather hire the guy who wants to own his mistakes than the one who does a crappy job and walks away.
If I had a pressure washer, I would use it on everything all the time. I would use it on my neighbors sidewalks and driveways for fun. So satisfying. 😂
I just did that this last weekend :) I asked first, but great fun. I have a Simpson as well, but upper end home one 3200 PSI. Round brush is a life saver.
Hello, I saw you in an advertisement for a tool (a saw) on the internet, you are an artist, I admire you, congratulations and greetings from Puerto Rico.
I agree with your early comment about pre-treating and lower pressure. I like to do that because lower pressure means less wear and tear on pump, hopefully, and easier on concrete. In my area, congregate cement with pebbles in them get damaged easily if pressure is too high or if you use a wand incorrectly.
I have a 4.0gpm 3750 psi pressure washer and have a 20" surface cleaner I rarely use because of the streaks try different tips in it and adjusting the pressure nothing works for me at least. So I just use a turbo nozzle made for a 4 gpm and I think up to 4000or 4500psi pressure washer. They cost at least $100 or more for the good ones but I found out doing big driveways like that I can get it done better and as fast as the surface cleaner.
One thing i do using a surface cleaner is not go in long lines, i keep rotating it around in circles to avoid clean streaks. If you do a lot of driveways look into an x-jet... use that to apply chemicals, clean it with the surface cleaner, and then rinse it with the xjet. Lastly i found best results when working in small areas, clean and rinse one square at a time. Keep up the good work.
I’m doing this now at my house. I’m just using a nozzle instead of the disc and just water, no chemicals. It takes longer especially if you want to make sure there’s no streaks but it does a better job with cleaning it. But, since it’s my driveway I can take my time and just do one section a day. Time isn’t an issue. My driveway and sidewalks are coming out so clean and white you almost hate to park and walk on them😂. I’m sure if I had a more powerful commercial machine the disc would work a lot better. I also am constantly blowing the water off with the Stihl on sections I’ve finished to make sure that dirty water doesn’t set back in the concrete. Needless to say it’s a slow process for me.
I think post treatment would help the most. You can look online for most peoples recipes for post treat. Mostly just watered down pool chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) and some add a surfactant. I use elemonator from pressuretek. Makes the chlorine smell better and is a surfactant so it cuts surface tension and makes the chlorine dwell a little longer. You just spray the post treat on and leave it alone. No rinsing. Chloriine degrades quickly in the sun. And rain rinses whats left away. BUT READ ONLINE ABOUT THE RATIOS and make decision yourself on if you want to use post treat. Also if you make it too 'hot', it can temporarily burn back the grass edges a little if you spray it too close. Also, you should make sure the nozzles on that surface cleaner are sized appropriately for the gpm (Gallon per minute) and psi of your pressure washer. You adjust the nozzles to match your machine. Typically NOT adjusting the unloader valve to alter the pressure. And with appropriately sized nozzles, you will not need to move so slowly. I have a feeling you were going to slow for the nozzles which contributed to the stripes. And as a side note, based on the flow rates of that pressure washer you should have gone with a 16inch surface cleaner instead of the 20. But with the right nozzles you can make the 20 work. I read pressurewashingresource.com for a LOT of detailed info. Some are a little pretentious because they look down on the small guy or even homeowners trying to learn. But if you read and absorb into you will learn a lot.
I can understand why you weren't satisfied with the results. It looks like there are stripes on the driveway, and maybe the curbing too? Having run a lawncare business for some years, I would not have asked if he wanted it to be redone for free. I would have just done it over. If I don't like it, I know the customer doesn't like it. They may not say anything to you, but you may not ever be back to that customer again. I know it takes a lot of time to make a driveway like this look great again. You did a nice job, keep up the good work!!!
chemical will always help blend raw water streaking usually you can get away with 10% bleach/chlorine through downstream just a little dawn mix in a pump sprayer will help blend as well if you dont want to use bleach you can also bleand with the 10% bleach through downstreaming by doing a post treatment after the surface clean and rinse
Jobs like that you have to post treat and pre treat because you surface cleaner is making a lot of lines.. Sodium hypochlorite 12.5 % with pump sprayer is your best friend
@@martinhall3315 With Super Clean its important to washing it off before it dries. I didn't have a problem with streaking, but I have never used a buffer concrete cleaner. It seems to leave some streaking.
Curious, ... did you pretreat with anything? I've seen other videos where they pretreat AND use a heck of a lot more water... Thanks for sharing.. Loved the video.
What type surface cleaner do you prefer?? I've tried different brands and tend to lean toward the 24" BE with casters. That seems to work better than ones without the casters and only have the skirt. Just curious as to what you prefer. Thx
The streaks are caused by the surface cleaner. There's too much water under the surface cleaner, which results in "flooding", of which prohibits the water - from the water jets - making full contact with the ground. The streaks you see are from the water that DOES make it to the ground... the remaining water is absorbed in the pool of water under the surface cleaner. Basically, the water directly under the surface cleaner is unable to exit faster than water can be pumped out of the surface cleaner; i.e. the area under the surface cleaner is flooding. If you want to continue to use that surface cleaner, you may need to cut some of the brushes off the side of the cleaner; possibly from 4 areas around the cleaner. The water needs to be expelled faster than it can be pumped in.
It's always a good idea to wet the surface you are going to clean first. If it's a hot day, you may have to wet the surface more than once as you go along. But it's easier to clean if the surface is wet first for about 10 minutes. Just what I've learned.
Noted in a comment below it should be floating higher. Not telling you how to do things it really looks great. Bleach would help. Another thing I do to break up the time and help in streaking is I take a pass one direction then do another pass the other direction. If I go back to those properties say in a year you can tell it stays much cleaner as you can not see streaks.
You should have pre wet your concrete. And lubercate your spinner under your dome and make sure your screens for the hose for the water and nozzles are not clogged. In the model i use, in top middle where the water hose enters is a screen check your parts diagram.
Sorry Brad but you need to boost the pressure untill the sweeper head floats and you can effortlessly glide left to right, one you get really good, you use the watter pressure to stop you moving by slightly tilting the opposite way to what you were sliding. Hope this helps. Also them sweeper heads don't output a lot of pressure because they're normally taking the pressure and splitting it into 4, they just cover the same spot many times so high pressure won't damage the concrete. The sweeper head should be able to be used with 1 hand (not that you would but thats how much you want it to float)
