Medicare-for-All: Making Health Care a Human Right Since the administration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, there has been widespread discussion in this country about the need to guarantee health care to all as a fundamental human right. Today, at a time when every other major country on earth guarantees health care to all of their people, it is time for the United States to fulfill that goal. As important as it was to defeat Republican attempts to throw as many as 32 million Americans off of health care by repealing President Obama’s Affordable Care Act that is not the end of our work. It is only the beginning. In the midst of a pandemic that has claimed more than one million American lives, the need to guarantee health care as a fundamental human right through a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system has never been more apparent. Over one-third of all COVID-19 deaths and about 40 percent of all infections in the United States have been linked to a lack of health insurance. Life expectancy in our country plummeted during the pandemic and now stands at just 76.4 years - the lowest since at least 1997. In coming months, 15 million Americans could lose Medicaid coverage as pandemic-era eligibility policies end. In America today, more than 85 million Americans are either uninsured or underinsured due to high deductibles and copayments. Some 68,000 Americans die each year because they can’t see a doctor in time and millions more suffer unnecessarily because of delayed treatment. Unbelievably, one out of four Americans are unable to afford the prescription drugs their doctors prescribe. Meanwhile, the United States spends far more on health care than any other nation. According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, we spend nearly $13,000 per capita on health care. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom spends just $5,387, Canada spends $5,905, France spends $6,115 and Germany spends $7,382 per capita on health care while providing universal care to everyone. Despite this huge expenditure, our life expectancy is lower than most other industrialized countries and our infant mortality rates and maternal mortality rates are much higher. 57 years ago, the United States took an important step towards universal health care by passing the Medicare program into law. Guaranteeing comprehensive health benefits for Americans over 65 has proven to be enormously successful and popular. My sister stated she was an attorney, and that if a doctor didn't look at the medical records, then she will be suing as a nurse can't make that decision as she is not a doctor. Two hours later they called her and her surgery was approved.

From this incident alone shows me, the insurance companies have been put in a position that monopolize on major expenses in our lives, with out any gonverning rules. Such as set price limits. Rules against discriminating against people with preconditions, or where they live. One of the biggest scams is insurance across the board now. It use to be something that was there as extra support incase of accidents of life variables. Now its one of the things that are financially breaking Americans.

@@evlutionzllc5519UHC is the 4th largest company in the country ahead of Google and Microsoft and they don’t research or develop anything, they do it by being middle men blocking access to coverage, raising costs, and basically extorting them
You guys need to stop assuming this was an average person. I doubt that is the case. UHC has been in a political feud with the State of NY for a while.
@@aspirapolvere5510 always a conspiracy with you people, what’s more likely a state agent shoots a guy in broad daylight when they have resources to do it way better, or 1 of the millions of people this guy and his company extort and screw over pushed back?

The health care in the USA is in crisis, terrible crisis.
Imagine getting denied by your Dr because a staff worked said they were threatened just because a conversation was somewhat argumentive.
I can’t say what we’re all thinking.
What do you get when you cross corporate greed and healthcare?

Something about the temperature in an underground place???
Other people are definitely saying it
United Healthcare is one of the worst insurance companies. CEOs need to be very careful. The People are sick of greedy CEOs and shitty insurance. Thoughts and prayers for his family.
Is there a good insurance company?
standard insurance
People are tired of greed? Nope, we just elected a born rich Scrooge
I've had UHC for decades, and have always received great coverage. It is now my supplemental coverage for Medicare.
The country just voted to put more greedy CEO’s in power. CEO’s that promised to eliminate affordable healthcare ACA. The country is not tired.
It's called late stage capitalism. The empire is in freefall. This is the end result of trickle down economics.
The economics wont be the only thing trickling down all over the floor apparently.
I agree we definitely need some change. This is not the way.
Trickle down economics has only resulted in a trickle up. Sadly, a lot of conservatives are still dumb enough to believe it.
I5s actually called crony capitalism...very bad, full on communism comes next if things don't change.
@@staytuned.263 it's the only way. How do you think we get anything around here. google "revolutionary war" we didn't talk our way into a country.
There is no need for a backstory. CEO of the GIANT health insurance company that like to deny claims just for the reason to see if people will fight them... It doesn't take much to figure a pretty plausible motive.

Wishful thinking, a limit to greed.

When corporations fall the people will rise
Trump emboldens corporations in every way. Deregulation is all these corporations want. At our expense
Hold up, brother.
Corporations can be awesome, so long as they aren’t governed by selfish people.
When selfishness falls, people will be lifted up. Seen?
My CEO takes 13 million bucks a year while many of us struggle to get ahead in life.
If I was in his position I would take a normal salary and share the stock options evenly with everyone at the company. Lo, we’d still be a corporation and we’d be blessed, for, “the ways of I Am are blessed.”
We are currently seeing a very terrible era wherein virtually all executives are immoral people who do not believe that God punishes selfish people, and they are deceived. Our creator does punish selfishness. We mustn’t think that just because they fly on private jets and live without any financial burdens that they aren’t being punished in any way. They live shallow and unsatisfying lives, compared to loving people who share their wealth and their love with all people according to their ability.
When we die, we are judged, and God does say that He judges selfish souls so we know that men like Andrew Witty go to eternal torment if they didn’t change their heart before God.
Government is the true evil. Corporations have never removed constitutional rights without due process. The government has though.
@ Co-Ops need to take over the current corporate corruption climate but not turn to greed themselves but also give back to the communities and federally in some ways that help the masses.
Right now it’s selfish, self serving greed which is making like difficult for the masses so they can live a lavish lifestyle

Just renewed my insurance same coverage I had went up $284 a month. We don’t even use it we are fairly health and have it for emergency use.
I don't wanna say his greed and profiting off people's bad health and deaths got him killed, so I won't say it...
I bet it was a terminal patient who was denied care.
Someone once told me "when people have nothing left to lose, they lose it"
at least this person realized it's a class war, and didn't take it out on the public.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone who wanted revenge. Probably this person lost a loved one cuz united healthcare wouldn’t approve a life saving treatment. Not sure if that was the case but it would provide a motive. I mean, you gotta wonder why else this man would have been targeted as the current information points to. I hope they catch the culprit soon
Hmmm. Where were you?
sounds like that movie SAW.
But he is not the top guy , the guy is Andrew witty ceo of United health group … I think this is something else
@ how so?
Or maybe a disgruntled employee. Maybe he worked for them and got fired..
Understandable . Probably denied coverage for existing conditions and high prices
Pushing people to pay more while they get paid less in a country with a mental health chrisis... what could go wrong
My initial shock and empathy turned cold when I saw who the victim was. I don’t like feeling that way but corporate greed has ruined our country, and I feel like CEOs are to blame. My partner and I were just talking about all the young tech workers going through layoffs and how shoddy they’re being treated by companies posting ghost jobs. I fear that we are in for much worse these next 4 years. Pay to play for political jobs would have been inconceivable just a few years ago. The average American doesn’t see what’s right in front of their face.
Not just your country, it's same over the pond as well
These comments have no sympathy for this man and neither do I.
How many people has he indirectly killed through pricing meds out of the reach of ordinary folks?
It's about time CEOs learn they aren't untouchable. Best remember that 1%.
Check out salaries of HC CEO than Check out how many lawsuits against these HC conglomerates that deny care
You know the motive for this I’m sure
calling him a victim is a bit of a stretch
Calling you a human is a bit of a stretch.
@ how many people have been denied coverage from his company and died from his horrible business practices
You people crying over Healthcare are PATHETIC. Get a fucking job.
Wow. One of the largest insurance companies that deny the most claims hmmm
Surely his insurance will cover this.
His life insurance … Maybe.
How horrible and so very tragic. All that wealth and he didn't take it with him.
There's not a lot of sympathy in the comments section.
I don’t have insurance for it

I wonder if the hospital bill gets denied coverage.
At the rising cost of insurance from United Healthcare, it doesn't suprise me!! Insurance premium goes UP every year!! Hard to keep insurance when you live on a fixed income...SS!!! Have even considered letting it go, as my husband and I can barely afford it now. My supplement with United Healthcare has DOUBLED over the past 12 years. How am I going to afford health insurance 10 years from now??
it’s basically extortion at this point
I used to work for united healthcare and I specifically got told to deny unhealthy people…. I’m from England that moved here and it makes me sad.
No empathy for those who let sick people suffer for profit
Died of acute lead poisoning. I doubt insurance will cover that.
Looking at the comments…. Yea safe to say Americans are fed up with the healthcare in the country. Karma comes for us all.
This man's company denied thousands and more their healthcare - they also left families behind. This man's claims for lead poisoning removal was also denied...you live by the sword, you d/e by the sword.
The people you voted for made that possible.
Oh no, what a tragic loss for society. Sending concepts of prayers and condolences,
Did you know that CIGNA insurance is owned by Black Rock who sponsors killing with NATO?
I can bet he was targeted on purpose, and someone was probably tired of how they run things. UHC is horrible.
Other countries taken the profit out of healthcare thats what we need to do because these comments are insane all the people who have cancer being denied treatments and coverage 🤬🤬🤬
I believe UHC covers a generic plastic coffin with a $4000.00 out of pocket deductible....
My sister needed a surgery and UHC denied the surgery. It was medically documented that she needed to have it. She called UHC, and asked to speak to the doctor who denied her the necessary surgery. She was informed that doctors do not make these decisions, they are made in house. My sister questioned if it was not a doctor who was it. They said a nurse. My sister stated she was an attorney, and that if a doctor didn't look at the medical records, then she will be suing as a nurse can't make that decision as she is not a doctor. Two hours later they called her and her surgery was approved.
Crazy!
When you have health care corporations denying to help people who have health issues and are in life and death situations.Things like this happens.
Not saying its deserved- but what is going on in America 🇺🇸 and the abuse of Medical Insurance prevent Americans from getting medical assistance is absurd. i would pay 89.00 per biweekly pay to Untied Healthcare and had a deductible of $6000.00. Had to pay full amount for Dr visits (out of pocket) and etc until I met the $6000.00 deductible. Didn’t understand medical industry until I GOT United Healthcare. Its apsurd. These are the classes that should be created for students in high school. How to survive the Medical Insurance abuse in the USA. Because you don’t learn this- nobody teaches you. Its done purposefully to rob you blind.
Is that covered under his insurance?
Not if it's out-of-network.
This is the definition of a hit. This sounded personal
“We’re not going to release his identity out of consideration for his family-we’re just going to fully describe who he is, and fully describe how he died, because we don’t really have consideration for his family.” And then the media wonder why they’re hated.

Claim status: Denied. No sympathy here.
You’re liable for your actions. CEOs included. If the legal systems can’t deliver justice, things like this will continue to happen
I was in the group healthcare business in the 80s and 90s. If we'd treated our insured the way they're being treated now, I'd been put in front of a firing squad. I doubt this was a random shooting. There's no way we could have gotten away with what is being done right now.
Justice was served.
As a person who worked for UHC for 5 years …yeah …CEO is selfish and greedy as f. Barely saw any bonuses or benefits for his company asides from the CEO. I work for a much better company now ❤
May I ask where ? 😮😢 I am a current UHC employee
Maybe it’s due to the cost of health insurance. Highway robbery
I guarantee that this man has made many decisions that lead directly to thousands of deaths by denying care. People are finally beginning to wake up and see who their real enemies are.
Zero sympathy.
Not really a surprise considering how Healthcare Insurance Companies treat people these days.
Oh so NOW murders are a big deal suddenly? When its one of us peasents it doesnt matter but when its a CEO its sad and we should care.😭
unfortunately, that is the truth even a celebrity figure who has died that is a "c" lister compare to an "a" lister will not get much coverage on the news for example when the king of pop michael jackson died the world stopped
Hmmmm seems like someone learned the hard way that their actions or inactions have consequences.
“We don’t know the backstory here”
I mean he laid off hundreds of employees and the company killed and bankrupted people through claim denial.
Not the biggest mystery.
In case anyone was wondering he made 25 million in 2023. Gee how can this guy have any enemies?
No one wants to promote or cause violence and harm to these greedy bureaucrat elites, but these CEOs have been the reason why common folks CANNOT afford quality, life-saving/sustaining, critical healthcare and meds for them and their families. @Martin199320 I just looked it up United Healthcare is a 2.2 Google rating. The subject victim is involved in bad business practices
Terrible insurance. Any company that offers this insurance does not care about you as an employee.
That's why I quit
People are tired of insurance companies having so much control. I knew a single mom of one paying $800 a month for health insurance.
They pushed us into a corner.
Karma 🤷🏻♂️ bet that company royally screwed MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.
UHC is a devious company. The elderly interest is not treated fairly. Especially if you are on a fixed income
Urgent bulletin for Healthcare/Insurance companies: Lead pill poisoning risks will be moved to the top of the cost list ASAP.
Cop was doing CPR about as well as UHC approves claims.
I used to work in the business office of a local ambulance company and we would get calls all the time from people who had their medical insurance with United Healthcare. They have a bad reputation as one of the worst payers of all the insurance companies. We felt sorry for everyone that had United Health. One guy complained that he was airlifted and that there was no way that he could pay his bill. He said they should have let him die in his vehicle. Frankly, I am not surprised by the shooting. Someone got really angry about something, I'd say. IMHO.
